My intention was to just hang out for two nights, some friends were holding a week long yoga retreat. Ended up staying for four nights, that's all I could be away from work. I drove, it was even difficult to find, thanks GPS! It took a day or so to "land", it didn't seem that special a place, bit of road noise and neighborhood dogs perhaps. That changed without notice into a beautiful 8 acres of quiet serenity, yes. The outside surroundings became muted and it became a beautiful oasis 4500' up the mountain side. Beautiful evening views of the towns below, better still the sunrise over the ridgeline. Walk the coffee fields across the street. A perfect place for any kind of yoga getaway. "House" yoga classes were fabulous in the Lila Hall studio. Never seen a better setting for a class. Mar y Sol lead a class and finished with the most amazing singing crystal bowl you could (not) imagine, absolutely stunning sounds. The food was a great blend of local fresh everything, three times a day. A top professional staff of body workers, therapists etc was worth the price. And a special word to General Manager Eduardo. As a traveler you never think of the emergency that might pop up. I had an allergic peanut reaction to a late evening meal. I didn't fully read the info card displayed, I did not have an epi pen. My responsibilities. But it required immediate attention. Eduardo was reached by staff and was present in 3 minutes. We were in his vehicle and headed to Alajuela Hospital 20 min away. His composure, professionalism and ability to keep the situation calm were truly appreciated. Moreover, he was able to maneuver us through the hospital protocol and received rapid, yes rapid medical attention and treatment. I do not speak more than airport espanol. I am still truly grateful for his being the person who took control of the situation! R & R resorts/Pura Vida Spa has a very special staff waiting to make your stay a memorable and enjoyable experience. Would go back on a moments notice!

Room Tip: I stayed in 105, known as "the standard room". A wooden locked cabin that fits a very comfortable large north american bed. No water, toilet or mirror but all only steps away, safe to walk any time of night. Central to all facilities, on level ground, some rooms are down the hillside with steep stairs. Surrounded by fronds and plantings, it's almost hidden from ten feet away. Great for one or two possibly.

Room 105....Booked into the "standard room". That's how they know it. A wooden cabin surrounded/hidden almost on all sides by fronds and beautiful plantings. A very comfortable bed, felt bigger than a queen. No running water, toilet or mirror, that's just steps down the path. But a great quiet, cozy room priced reasonably.
If you're going as a single it's a great room. Would book it again.

My second visit to this beautiful property was just as good as the first. The same wonderful staff that help to make the place so special were all still there doing what they do best - making sure their guests are comfortable and happy. Seems many of the guests feel as I do, I talked to people who have been returning there for 7,8, even 13 years in a row which says a lot. Love this place and plan on going back whenever possible!

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have noise from the road which can be quite bothersome at night. It is the only downside that I can see and there is nothing that they can do to overcome this problem. I stayed in "Kiva" rooms both times (413 and 411) which are spacious with sitting areas and a great view of the valley.

I went for a Bikram yoga retreat here for a week. The entire place is beautiful and immaculate. The staff manage the place very very clean and comfortable. I used their taxi service several times and the drivers were ALWAYS punctual and professional. The reception staff are very knowledgeable and helpful with whatever you need and the kitchen staff are very efficient and friendly. Everybody at this retreat place is busy cleaning, cooking, and helping all day everyday. They're all very courteous, quiet, professional, friendly, and patience. The food was fantastic. They had great varieties everyday. I eat mostly vegetables but they had fish and chicken everyday too. The yoga studios are so beautiful and clean. All the yoga gear are provided - Manduka mats, towels, props, blankets, straps, etc. They clean the mats everyday also so you don't have to. Basically, this place does everything it can to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. I especially loved all the hammocks they put everywhere. They're shaded so you don't have to worry about getting a sunburn.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our tour of Costa Rica. Tamara, the yoga instructor was great and I did 2 classes with her at the end of both days having been out walking during the day. Pura vida's yoga studios have great views too, over the valley. The food was great as were the serving staff. We had a large spacious room that overlooked the valley and walking through the gardens was a delight. The treatments were, frankly, too complex to understand and a little pricey
all I wanted was a straightforward sports massage so I waited until I got home.

Room Tip: Every price range catered for, top end very luxurious.
