“Amazing trail and views !!”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

A 3-hr hike, not too strenuous. Great views along the way. We hired a guide who was waiting at the trail entrance ($25 total for two people) and he had good knowledge about the flora and fauna. This hike is well-marked and can certainly be done on your own. I highly recommend to do the waterfall at the end on your way back (save the best for last and it consumes energy). Keep and eye out for wildlife and enjoy the blue river !! Highly recommended

“Amazing”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

Long hike, and tough. The steps are...well...scary.
Pack light, bring water.
Worth it...no question.
Amazing.

“Worth the effort of getting there and the hike to the sights”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Worth the effort of getting there. There are a few different things to see on the trail, and the water was a very interesting blue! The hike can get a bit tough in some places based on the incline and mud which can get pretty messy. I highly recommend packing light but bringing some water, bug spray and a camera.

“Wow!”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

The waterfall and color of the water is beautiful and almost looks fake, it is just that perfect!
We took a day trip with a group, which resulted in us going on a pretty slow-paced hike. We would have liked to move a little faster, but had to stay with our group. However, based on the drive alone, I would go with a group again, because once you turn off the main paved road, the drive is very rocky and uphill.
The restaurant in the park was good, but wasn't great. They were very busy though and I'm sure they were making all the meals very quickly.

“We had to wait a horibly long line to get in”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

It is very nice but I wouldn't describe it as the most beautifull thing in Costa Rica. It is one of those things that you see - and it is like in the pictures. No extra effect.
The annoying thing was that we had to wait almost 1 hour in line to buy tikets, because they ask everyone to write their names and tiket numbers and country and it takes forever. How comes they couldn't find a system to make it quicker? It was so frustating to stay 1 hour in a line of some 15 people which should take 10 minutes maximum.
We went with our rented car from La Fortuna via Bijagua (took almost 2.5 hours to Bijagua, including driving via a long dirt road at the end + 20 more minutes from Bijagua to the entrance via another dirt road). Then it took some 3 hours to Monteverde. So it was 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours to hike, and 3 hours to Monteverde, after lunch. Arrived just before dark, at 18:00.
