A fun evening with great food and great service from our waiter, Nelson. We arrived early, by 6 pm, so the restaurant wasn't crowded. My wife and I each had two glasses of Chilean sauvignon blanc, ceviche, crostinis, prawns fettucine, mixed seafood with pasta in a garlic sauce, and a dessert called chocolate soup. All for a total of fifty five dollars which included taxes and gratuity. We felt that this was quite an enjoyable experience, and we will visit again when we return to Alajuela. Thanks to all for a fine culinary adventure.

Even though we're from Sonoma County and the heart of the food and wine country, we thought this restaurant was one of the best we've eaten at ever.

The owner raises the beef and pigs and grows most of the vegetables on his farm. He also makes and distills his own liquor, makes his own yogurt, and Lord knows what else. With these incredible ingredients he creates beautiful concoctions that hold their own against gourmet restaurants anywhere.

If you are flying in and out of San Jose Costa Rica, and like us are staying at a hotel near the airport, it's a five dollar and quick taxi ride to the restaurant. Who would think there was such a gym in such an industrial part of Costa Rica.

Appetizer, main course, dessert, all came to approximately $40 for two people.

Berni of the Pura Vida Hotel recommended this place. We never would have found it otherwise. A converted house, it's in a residential neighborhood, and the directions include "look for the gray Honda." 2 little boys greeted us as we got out of our cab. Once inside we sat in a large room with views of the open kitchen and a large fish tank. There is no menu. The waiter, who also helped to prepare the food, asked us about our food preferences, then brought us appetizers of ceviche with a variety of fruit sauces to add, and toasts with several delicious purees. The entrees were the best-prepared fish I have ever eaten, and succulent shrimp, with perfect vegetable sides. Absolutely one of the best meals I have ever eaten. When the check came I was shocked, as 3 of us ate royally for about $40. If we had been served the same meal in New York or San Francisco for 5 times as much we would not have been disappointed.

We made our way to Cevichito for a late Saturday lunch. What a find! The service was warm and friendly, the decor clean and modern--a surprise for a Tico house conversion. But of course most important: the food! The amuse bouche was a tiny portion of ceviche with a variety of fruit sauces, very elegantly presented. For our main courses, we opted for fish, mussels, and octopus with a tamarindo sauce. A delightful taste of white chocolate soup finished the meal. The entire meal was unexpectedly great, a feast for both eyes and taste.

Recommended by the owners of Pura Vida in Alajuela, this place is awesome. Fantastic meal with warm, friendly service. Alvaro is a great cook. Interesting and unique fushion food (fried plantains & mozerella). Cerviche was gr8 with unusual sauces. Impeccible service, warm atmosphere, super food--what more do you need. Thanks again Alvaro. Pura vida baby.
