This is a little treasure in the La Fortuna area for a very reasonable price (They offer a $5/day discount if you pay in cash). Upon our arrival (we stayed 3 nights), the owner and his wife knew it was our honeymoon and fixed up our room with candles, flowers, champaign, champaign glasses and swan towels. They wanted to make it extra special for us!

Opt for the breakfast, it's delicious! Plus it's cheaper than going into town. It's enjoyable to sit on their front porch (it's at their house right across the street) and enjoy a meal together and with other travelers.

It's about a 25min walk into town ($3 - $4 taxi ride) and often one of his sons would be going into town and would offer to take us! They even saw us on the side of the road one day and took us to a little restaurant they recommended. Some of the "Sodas" deliver food so ask if you don't want to make the trek into town. They will call it in for you!

It's also about an hour walk to the La Fortuna waterfall, but totally worth it! We also had booked all of our activities before we left, but he has lots to offer when you check in.

One of their sons is expecting a baby the end of March and the owner couldn't be happier, if you visit... ask him about it! :)

A wonderful place to stay, I highly recommend staying here! :)

Quit, nice relaxing place. Nice, friendly owners who explained everything in the region without insisting. Local breakfast was excellent with fresh herbs and fruit.

These are not rooms. There are 4 cabins with entrance off to the side from the road that goes to the waterfall. The back faces the rainforest. Landscaping is taken care of. Very colorful. Parking on site and free. There is a hammock in the back porch with a small table and two chairs. Very relaxing after a strenuous hiking day.
Check in very easy - the owner lives right across the road and comes over as soon a s you arrive. He speaks good English.
Breakfast at his house at whatever time you feel like it - his wife cooks. If you don't like traditional breakfast, they will accommodate your taste as much as possible ( American, fruits, etc). Breakfast is $5, no extra taxes, per person, very much worth it. We ate breakfast and were not even hungry way after lunch time.
We stayed three nights. Bed comfortable, basic. Bathroom adequate, also basic, hot shower, shower gel hanging there... Dong expect anything luxury, but remember that there is everything you need there for a better tan a reasonable price.
Air-conditioning works well. Did not see any bugs that shouldnt be there.
We did not ask the owners to book tours for us, however, they offer bookings.
Location on the road to the waterfall on the left - ride to La Fortunate less than 5 min. Certainly, we saw people walk, can't attest to the difficulty of that, but there is a side walk separated from the main road that seemed maintained and safe.
We really liked sincerity and helpfulness of the owners, and would certainly stay there again.

Hotel Cerro Azul was a perfect place to stay while visiting Arenal. Our host Alvaro and his family were so welcoming and friendly-this is genuinely a family business and they do their best to make you feel right at home. The cabina was adorable with nice, comfortable beds, pretty decorations and a fridge - great for keeping bottles of water or wine cool so you can enjoy them on the private deck out back. Plants and bushes make the desk feel very private and we loved swinging in the hammock looking at the volcano and wildlife and stars. The bathroom was also great with lots of natural wood design and hot water. Alvaro was incredibly helpful making reservations for us for various activities and restaurants. His wife makes the BEST breakfast you will have anywhere in Costa Rica. Make sure you get the 'typical' Tico breakfast from her-you will eat a lot of beans in CR, but these are the only ones that will have you coming back for seconds! Great coffee and fresh OJ and tropical fruit, plus eggs and toast - completely worth the $5. The location is great too- views of the volcano, close enough to walk to town (or 5 min drive) but far enough to feel like the wilderness. Alvaro's horse lives in the backyard (so cute!) and right on the back of their property is a pristine stream, great for playing in and swimming. Due to travel delays we were only able to stay 2 nights, which was our biggest regret-we promised Alvaro that next time we would come back for at least a week!

Room Tip: All of the cabinas we saw looked great!

First of all, I can't recommend Hotel Cerro Azul enough. It isn't really a "hotel," it is more of a boutique B&B. I doubt you can find anything of this quality or uniqueness for the same price in La Fortuna. It is very impressive- you get the privacy, beauty, cleanliness, amenities & hospitality you would expect at a place four times the price.

This was the first place we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica and I was heartsick for Cerro Azul & the hospitality and professional demeanor of Alvaros, the owner, and his family after we left.

In the bustling town of LaFortuna, Cerro Azul offers a peaceful slice of paradise even though it is only a long walk from downtown. There are four villas, each with a private back porch with chairs, a hammock, and a view of lush greenery and a horse pasture. Costa Rica at its most beautiful! The front porch offers a view of the epic Volcan Arenal!

The beds are incredible comfortable, the showers have hot water, and the A/C is great. The rooms are exceptionally clean and well-cared for. The grounds are well-maintained and landscaped beautifully.

Alavros's wife offers a "typical" Costa Rican breakfast that is an unmatchable deal at $5 a person. HIGHLY recommended!!!! The breakfast is absolutely delicious- I never again had a breakfast so good in the whole country! You can tell it is made with love.

Alvaros is extremely helpful and can book whatever adventure you want at a discount (below published prices) because he is a local. I would recommend booking with him and avoiding the hassle of the tour agencies in town that are just out to sell you anything.

Chatting with Alvaros we learned about Costa Rican culture, his family, and the town of Arenal. If you have the time, I would suggest talking with him! With so many places in Costa Rica owned by Europeans, this is a great opportunity to get a local perspective.

You will notice a lot of people walking on the road past Cerro Azul from town to the La Fortuna waterfall, which let's you know you are in the right place! Definitely walk or drive to the waterfall. It is beautiful!

I want to thank Alvaros and his family for the luxurious villa & the wonderful time we had in La Fortuna. The special place they have created at Cerro Azul made it all more wonderful.

Room Tip: All the villas are equally beautiful! If you want TV ask when you book the room.
