Funny how we ended up at Royal Corin, the staff at Nayara sold our room and despite our reservation (and paid depost) they had no rooms available when we arrived. Nayara actually booked us at The Royal Corin with the option of going back to Nayara after a couple days. We opted to stay at Royal Corin which was really a very easy decision.
The hotel is very new, and still is working out a few minor kinks, but it really is a five-star property by Costa Rica standards, almost by any standard. The hotel itself is beautiful, really impressive aesthetically from the public areas, to the spa and the rooms are in class by themselves in Costa Rica. Very elegant decor, incredible interior finishes, Italian bathroom fixtures, a two-person jacuzzi tub with a built-in television screen right in the main parlor area of the room, sleek and contemporary furnishings and a very comfortable and larger-than-king-sized bed.
Not your typical nature lodge, it is a high-styled property with a european feel that could easily fit in South Beach. The company provided photos on this website and their home page are very representative, it really is that visually stunning.
The natural hot-pools and tubs are incredible, though not as large as Tabacon or Baldi, they are everything we needed and then some, simply beautiful and without the crowds of overweight bikini-clad tourists. Really a touch of class compared to the others, including a very nice swim-up bar. A large naturally fed sauna and steam room overlooking the rest of the pools and waterfalls was appealing on every level. The water itself is ideal "bathtub" temperature and very relaxing.
The spa was very elegant, well-operated, and had a full menu of services that met or exceeded US standards. The restaurant was good, perhaps over-reaching somewhat at times, but well worth an evening. The included breakfast was by far the best we had in Costa Rica.
And the service exceeded our expectations in every regard. Beyond prompt service for room service requests, a front-desk staff that was beyond reproach, and not an unfriendly or smug individual on the entire staff. We booked two trips through the front desk and each went off without a hitch and with no hotel surcharge, both with well established providers. I have this thing about the staff remembering my name at nicer properties as it tells me something about their training and the staff at Royal Corin didn't miss a greeting.
You would not want to stay here if you are looking for a more traditional Costa Rican nature lodge type look and feel, instead opting for the likes of Nayara or Tabacon. You would want to stay here if you desire clearly the most luxurious property in the La Fortuna area (and perhaps all of CR) while still having full access to everything the area has to offer. This property has no equal in the La Fortuna area.
Finally, in some earlier reviews there was mention of the pools not yet being fully completed. This is no longer the case, everything is done and in great working order. Every couple of days they drain the pools in the late evening and by early morning they have been refilled with completely clean and fresh water...something that I appreciate in naturally fed pools.
