“Modern comfort in a tropical setting.”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

This was my favorite hotel during my stay in Costa Rica. After a horrible night staying in a lodge where we found cockroaches on the bed, we happened upon this wonderful hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious, well-appointed and most importantly- had no bugs. We stayed in the junior suite for under $150 per night (I think because it was the low season, prices for the rooms were marked down. I'd say call the hotel directly to inquire about prices as we had no reservations and I'm not sure they're advertising their sale.) The staff was always courteous, the views of the Arenal volcano were spectacular (although not the lava flow side), the hotel provided free internet access and the restaurant was very good albeit a little pricey. The pool and hot springs provided a beautiful area to sunbathe and relax. The spa had a special where prices were marked off 40-50%.
This place is very modern looking. I believe the hotel is only about a year old. If you want to stay in a place where it is very rustic, this is not the place for you. I found that doing all the fun outdoor activities, including hiking and zip lining and then coming back to the modern comforts this hotel provided proved ideal for me.

I booked a standard room at the Royal Corin for 3 nights and I must say I was very impressed. The room was very spacious, comfortable, had a large balcony and LCD tv. All of the furnishings were brand new. The bathroom was incredible - marble and silver everywhere. The hotel staff are very outgoing and personable. Great service all around. Delicious breakfast buffet. The hotel has a stunning 5th floor bar -you have to check this place out....its out of this world. The thermal pools on site were also a nice treat. One of Arenal's best.

We stayed in Master Suite during our 3 night visit. The location is between the town of La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano. The hotel is about a year old, but everything looked new. Occupancy was very low during our visit, so the hotel was very quiet. This is a modern facility, so anyone looking for a nature lodge should look somewhere else (like the Lost Iguana).

The Master Suite was a delight - very roomy, great shower, and has a jacuzzi for 2 (my wife and daughter enjoyed it). Please note that the master suites in the top guest floor are directly below the Lava Bar which could get noisy until 11pm. We requested a suite one floor down. We had a great view of the volcano from our balcony. The food at the hotel was very good, but the menu cater too much to foodies and not enough for families, and is a little pricey - no problem for us as there are many other options a few minutes away by car. The Spa was very nice and had a good selection of services, and during our visit they were offering great discounts to guest (40 to 50% off).

The hotel has several pools, but they are all filled with thermal waters - some of them extremely hot. The ones near the sauna and water cascades are cooler, but still warm. I mentioned to the hotel manager the need for a cool water pool given the tropical nature of the area, and he mentioned that plans are in the works.

The only compliant we had is that one night we had a massive rain storm in the area, and it appears that the plumbing in the hotel got backed up, resulting in a foul odor coming from the shower drain for a couple of hours. Not a big deal and the amount of rain that came down was substantial.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone - go now before the hotel is "discovered" and prices go up.

The Royal Corin is a work of ART. My favorite hotel and I travel alot. The staff is excellent, The rooms are spacious, modern, and the decor is fabulous. The cuisine is gourmet,
We spent two days at a lodge on the lava side which was nice, Then were on our way to the beach when we detoured just to check out the hotel for a future trip, The desk clerk showed us the hotel and I was very impressed. We continued to Playa Conchiel and stayed at the paradisis which is excellent. We canceled three of our days at the beach and returned to stay at The Royal Corin and were treated like royalty. The spa is wonderful. I will definitly be back soon. If you go to Costa Rica do not miss a chance to stay at The Royal Corin.
