We are a well travelled family of 5 who were thoroughly disappointed with this Lonely Planet recommended accommodation. We were shown to a room that had only been painted that day - the fumes were intolerable. The next room had exposed wiring in the shower, a leaky toilet, a ceiling fan that was not secure to the ceiling, musty old mattresses covered by only thread bare sheets and mouldy pillows. The next room had a rather large cockroach in the empty shampoo dispenser, rodent feces on the bed and ants climbing the wall. It clearly had not been used for a very long time. They refused to return our money despite the involvement of the tourist police claiming that they had had to turn away guests. The only guests at the cabins were obviously a local who worked night shift and another sole local. A barking, growling guard dog was tied to a post in the middle of the cabins. We have requested that Lonely Planet remove this recommendation from their next issue and have filed a formal complaint with the Costa Rican Ministry for tourism.More
