“Real Costa Rican experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

As it was low season, I was the only rider on this trip, but what a wonderful experience. Cesar was my guide, and although his English was limited we communicated just fine, and he willingly took photos. The horses are obviously well cared for (as are the resident dogs), and very sure footed. The ride is tailored to your experience, which is great as I managed a few gallops and some tricky slopes. The whole area is beautiful, and we even saw some toucans. We stopped for a break at the Benedictus restaurant and had a delicious fruit drink. The views from this place are amazing. I would definitely recommend this.

“Excellent ride”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013 via mobile

Good place for a novice or experienced horseman. Exciting trails with some great views. Cesar, our guide, took an easy pace which was comfortable for my buddy, a novice rider. Having more experience, I had a number of opportunities to run the quarter horse on which I was riding. Location is convenient to La Fortuna. A well-run, clean, classy establishment.

“Horseback riding in Arenal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2013

This was a worthwhile afternoon. The stables are well supplied with healthy, well-taken care of horses for riders of all levels, including children. We particularly enjoyed our guide, Cesar. He was aware of the different levels of abilities of each rider, and handled the group expertly.
Alvaro, the owner of the stables and farm lands, also has an organic restaurant called Domenicus, He operates more than 260 acres of organic farm fields ranging from cattle raising, dairy and vegetables .The restaurant has an incredible view. The ride was really idyllic with varied terrain where you ride to the foot of the volcano passing though several stream. We recommend Don Tobias without reservation for a afternoon or morning ride.

“Amazing views”

Horseback tour to the arenal volcano. Various terrain which accomodated all riding levels. The guide was patient, helpful and took pictures with our camera for us but did not speak much english. Served us a wonderful drink and amazing vistas from the balcony of the chalet. A very friendly place. Kids wanted to do this tour again.

“A ride for a horse lover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2013

We arrived at the stables not knowing what to expect. What we found was a welcome surprise. The horses were healthy. The tack was in good shape and clean. The barn area was neat and well tended. Everyone was fitted for a helmet , then given their mount. Experienced riders could request a mount more suited to their level of riding. My lovely mare, Marisol, was alert, lively, responsive, and well mannered. In fact, her bridle did not even have a bit, but a bosal. She was fun to ride! Our ride was through shallow streams, through woodland, up steep inclines, and across fields. At one point coming out of some woods and going uphill, when we looked up there was a beautiful view of the Arenal volcano. Nothing short of splendid! These horses were remarkably sure footed and hardy - walking over rocky terrain without missing a beat. I was amazed at the bromeliads growing abundantly along tree limbs. Toward the end, at the bottom of a hill near the edge of some woods, we saw a group of peccaries foraging. Although we pretty much stayed together as a group, riders were allowed to canter or trot as they chose. A wonderful, long, enjoyable ride. We did have one rider who had NO experience with horses, and she had a rather difficult time. If you are a complete novice to horseback riding, I would recommend you go with someone who can "baby sit" you. The vaquero was there to guide our trail ride, not to be a riding instructor. I give Don Tobias a huge thumbs up!
