My boyfriend and I arrived at Arenal Lodge Hotel for vacation! We spent five days here and we must say it was amazing!!!! We made reservations for a standard size room but when we arrived it turned out that the only room available was located in the lobby area! I was very upset as you could hear all activities going on in the lobby! I expressed my disappointment but the staff was unable to relocate us as the hotel was completely booked. After arriving at our room after dinner, one of the front desk attendees knocked on our door to inform us that they had a cancelation and they would be more than happy to move us immediately! We were given a great room facing the Volcano Arenal and needless to say, we were very pleased! The hotel staff in all sections of the hotel went over and beyond to accommodate their guests! I highly recommend this hotel and would be more than happy and honored to stay here over and over again! Thanks, Charlie and Ivy, from New York City!

much can be overlooked when the view is as beautiful as the volcano is, as seen from the hotel. however, online accommodations prices on hotel's own website far exceeded prices posted at hotel desk when we arrived. online prepaid booking for special suite not honored and suite given to other guests. accommodations were made but those
took time away from our rest and recreational plans, were not pleasant to have to go through, and required our waiting around to change rooms mid-trip in order to have what we'd paid for. should you wish or need to be connected, internet is only available at reception although the property is about a kilometer from the gate and the hotel rooms are scattered on acreage. further, everything went down -- air conditioning, jacuzzi spa, lights repeatedly, our locked safe, and even the entire hotel's electricity -- far too many interruptions to a relaxing time. no spa services onsite.

Rent a car and stay here in a Chalet or anywhere. Do some included horseback riding and walks thru the rainforest right there. Food is fine and reasonable. Staff is more than helpful. You will never forget this place.

We booked online. They charged the day we booked and when we phoned from our house in Costa Rica to cancel the hotel clerk said she would cancel and no, we would not have to pay. No problem she said. If we had known they were going to charge us for the room from the day we booked and that cancelling was not an option we would have made the extra effort to stay there for $270 one night instead of cancelling to only have to pay anyway. We contacted customer service and they said the hotel clerk should never have told us we would not have to pay. Having a cancellation number does not matter. You will still be charged.

Arenal lodge is absolutely spectacular. It is located well above the hills of Arenal and only a 15 min scenic drive from the tourist town of La Fortuna, a must on any visit to the area.

Rooms are rustic, comfortable, and clean, however they are very humid and have a very wet smell. You are in the rainforest so that is to be expected. Service is charming and prices are very good, as are the breakfast buffet and free internet.

Will be back!
