“Fantastic place - lots of added value - amazing location”
Reviewed 25 April 2009

We stayed here as part of an Arenal/Monteverde overnight 2 day tour from Papagayo area the week of April 18th.
The hotel service was friendly and prompt.
The rooms were nice, nice marble top bathroom, and plasma TV - beds were 2 queen sized ones and were great to sleep on.
That about covers what I would expect from an overnight rest stop and in this respect it did not dissapoint.

Now for the amazing parts that were completely unexpected and of great value.
This place has it's own zip line, horse stables, Volcano observation area, ant farm, aquarium, a few large fish stocked ponds, crocodiles, butterfly building, tropical gardens.
They also have hot spring pools - several of them in a row - slides, and pools plus a swim up bar and more, oh a spa too (though we did not use it)
The restaurant had excellent quality food for both dinner and breakfast.
The only downer was the steep hill to the restaurant, the internal shuttle is new/clean and fairly prompt, but inconvenient - wee walked up at night and got to see fireflies everywhere it was cool.

This hotel was better than our all inclusive for the week in almost every respect - a fantastic surprise.

Now the view - OMG it was a crystal clear morining, after a dissapointing cloudy night and no lava view :( - the views in the morning were simply the best ever - picturesque - so close to the volcano, and so lush with plant life.

I would not hesitate to stay here for a few days if I return to Costa Rica, the location is also decent to get around the general area and there is enough stuff just onsite to take up a full day to two of activity - the area nearby also has pleanty to see.

I have added a few pics. Enjoy them.

Stayed here with family of kids 8, 6, and 2. Superior room spacious but quite a trek up the hill from the lobby/pool/breakfast. Often did the walk down but most of the time called the hotel shuttle for going back up to the room so could be a 5-10 minute wait ( just inconvenient). The oldest loved the waterslides and all 3 kids liked the animals on the grounds. Breakfast was decent and changed a little each day (we stayed 3 nights). Prior to going was planning to do the canopy tour there but it seemed a little to tame with the lines not too far up and going in view of the pool and rooms. We did do Ecoglide very near there which was excellent. There seemed to be a problem with the shower being watertight and we flooded the bathroom floor the first night. Had to call a couple times for more towels (only given 2 for the 5 of us) but overall service was ok. Booked the tour of the Volcano Natl Park through the hotel which we enjoyed. Overall, we enjoyed it although without kids would have probably chosen a different place and just be prepared for the walk depending on your room.

We stayed at Los Lagos Hotel for two nights included as a part of a tour at Costa Rica.
It is a excelent hotel with all the amenities expected as a 5 ****.
The staff was ok , as the food and rooms. The restaurant was beautiful located. There were 6 pools with termal and cold waters, and water slides.
We were luky because the weather was excelent and could see de Vocan Arenal (active). We went to the vulcan for a trip, walking about 4 miles and the view was amazing. We went also to a natural cascade for swiming. The guide, Cristian, was very nice.

We stayed at this resort for two nights as part of a tour of Costa Rica, and enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. The grounds were very nice, in a natural setting -- lots of birds and wildlife on the property. The facilities were first-class, and the restaurant and food were excellent. Our room had all amenities -- refrigerator, flat-screen cable-TV; and we had beautiful views of the Arenal volcano on one side and distant mountains on the other. This resort had everything I could have wanted, and more. This was the nicest lodging of six properties that we stayed in on our tour.

My husband, 10 year old son and I stayed at Los Lagos for two nights in mid February because we read nice things regarding all of all the amenities for kids. We were not disappointed in that respect. The pools, water slides, nature park with many creatures, and canopy tour were not a disappointment for my son. However, the hotel, restaurant, and everything else was not up to par with my husband or myself. Although quiet, the rooms seemed dumpy and cheap motel-like. The breakfast at the restaurant was plentiful, but the staff was not overly friendly or attentive. There were hords of tour groups at the restaurant, so when they walked into it, they basically took it over, and the three of us seemed overwhelmed. The reception was also dingy and the personnel were not overtly friendly and seemed like they didn't want to be there. There was mold growing around the pool slide and the pool was in serious need of refurbishing, as were many other features of the hotel. The weather also couldn't have been worse - it rained the entire time that we were there and we would never know that the Arenal volcano was close by. I would recommend this hotel to families who want lots of fun amenities nearby. There is a very fun hanging bridge overlooking a beautiful canyon that we used when we walked from our rrom to the pool and restaurant. We also saw lots of howeler monkeys near the bridge. The horseback riding up to the volcano in the mist and rain was also fun. Just don't expect any frills and you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in this hotel over Thanksgiving 2008. All the previous reviews are pretty right on. This is not a "fancy hotel" and I would not choose to stay here if I were a "romantic couple." But we were a family with 2 boys (ages 9 & 6 yrs old) and we also were travelling with Grandparents in the 60's. We primarily stayed at this hotel because of it's facilites, and it did not disappoint. The pool & waterslides are amazing and provided our boys with tons of entertainment. The hot springs were nice as well. We also enjoyed spending a morning exploring the garden area with the crocodiles, butterflies, and ant farm. The grounds are really very beautiful.
Breakfast was good and filling. Always plenty to choose from for our boys and a nice patio to sit out on. Yes, the staff does not "go out of their way" to be super pleasant, but we really didn't have any issues.
We stayed in s Superior Room with 2 Queen beds, and trundle beds underneath. Plenty of room for all of us, but nothing fancy....more like a motel room, but very clean.
We never did get to see the volcano, so I can't vouch for the view. In fact, it rained every day we were there. But still plenty warm to swim in the pool and enjoy the hot springs.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a family. There is a lot to keep the kids busy, and I really found it to be the best value for our family...without having to spend an arm and leg. Just don't set your expectations too high for the room itself or for the service, and you will have a great time.

We spent two days here on the 9th &10th of Feb. and I have to say this was a great place. Our room was the last one up the hill on the left which was a hike. Fortunately we had a car but the hotel shuttle looked like a great option and it was up and down every couple of minutes. Our room was so so, it was clean and had an open air porch with a small view. We awoke bothe mornings to howler monkeys, roosters and doves that all seemed to start making lots of noise at 5:30 AM. No sleeping in in Costa Rica! The grounds of the entire hotel are spectacular and they even have a walk through nature path / zoo complete with a butterfly enclosure, crocs, frogs and tropical fish. tThe walkway up and down the hot spring pools was lighted and a pleasure to stroll through. The warm pool has a wet bar and water slides which we spent time at in the evenings. All drinks were great except the margaritas which they could not seem to get right. We sent it back and ordered the other drinks. Breakfast and dinners were in an open air patio and the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Alexandra was well versed in customer service. The amazing thing was he was our waiter in the evenings as well as at 6 a.m. breakfast. He always was working. Even though tips are included in the pricing we gave this guy a $20.00 bill on the side which by the way is a grand amount by their standards.
One point I should mention, the biting insects are brutal. Biting black flys and no see ums would actualy draw blood. I recomend bringing and using bug repellant in this area. By the end of my Costa Rican trip I looked like a chicken pox patient.
From this resort we went to Sky Trek which is the best Zip line there with a tram ride to the top above the canopy.
The Volcano cleared on the day of our zip line and was a spectacular sight. The volcano was active with smoke and lava rock rolling down.
As was said in another review, the lava action was not seen from this hotel it is now on the back side which they dont tell you. However a short ride down the road at night and if it is clear you will enjoy the volcano view.
In conclusion, our room was not so good but everything else was an A+.
Have fun here and dont forget the bug spray!
