“Perfect Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2010

We stayed at Lomas Del Volcan for two nights during our Caravan Tour. It was the 3rd lodging on our tour and the second best next to JW Marriot which is all inclusive. The property is absolutely beautiful. Our cabin #105 is quite large, not to mention the bathroom. There is a safe, doesn’t look like it works, a mini fridge, coffee pot and a/c which isn’t needed. We were greeted with refreshing drinks and handed our room keys. Staff brought our bags to our room. Within half hour we had spotted a variety of birds right at our door and we can hear howler monkeys in the distance. The rooms are spacious and this place has the biggest bathroom ever. Cute front and back porch. Mini fridge and coffee pot in room. There is a pool and jacuzzi which was very nice and secluded. While in the Jacuzzi I managed to slice my right thumb which just wouldn’t stop bleeding. There are some tricky spots in the Jacuzzi, perhaps I should have mentioned it to staff. It was just so lovely to wake in the morning to the sound of birds. We took a lovely walk around the property. Saw a centipede on our last morning. Pity it was so cloudy so we didn't get to see the Volcano. . It is so peaceful there, for a second I wish I lived there. There is a bar and internet access in the lobby area. No TV's in the room which was fine with us-takes you away from the world. Staff very helpful particularly when I was being a pest asking about opportunities to see the volcano every hour lol
Of all the areas toured, this is the only area I would gladly return to especially since we didn't get a view of the volcano and there is lots more to explore. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else but Lomas del Volcan, well unless I'm broke then a cheaper place would have to do.

A fabulous place to stay. It's located just outside LaFortuna up a dirt road... perfect for privacy and distance from the modest traffic of the main road and center village. It's literally right at the base of the volcano, with spectacular views of the volcano everywhere on the property. There are a fair number of cabins, but they are situated tastefully on the slopes around the reception building. Our cabin (#400) exceeded our expectations... Small front porch, plenty of space in the main room with beautiful wood interior, a clean, spacious bathroom with toilet, bidet, sink, and large shower - and plenty of water pressure and hot water. Best of all was a porch out the back door that had terrific views of the volcano and the surrounding lush vegetation. We woke each morning at about 5 to the sounds of many birds, and had a large tree just outside our front door that was a favorite early-morning perch for 5 or 6 tucans... What a treat!!! The room also had excellent AC. No TV, which we were very happy about.

Near the reception bldg is a really beautiful pool with a fountatin, and next to that a hot tub. We sat in both, gazing up at the volcano and surrounding mountain & rainforests. It was about as perfect (and romantic!) as we could imagine.

Breakfast is availabe with the cost of the cabin (about $100 / night), and is very good. Fruits, eggs, gallo pinto, breads, pancakes, juice, coffee, etc. Four or five tables in the dining area offer great views of the volcano, so it's worth getting up early and staking a claim to one of those tables!

The folks at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful. They arranged an excellent horseback riding experience for us, and cheerfully answered our questions. We just can't say enough about Hotel Lomas del Volcan. It is superb, and we would go back in a heartback. In fact we will!!!

This was our first stop in Costa Rica. When we arrived, it took 5 minutes to drive along a very rocky road to get to the reception area. We were greeted by a friendly employee who spoke good English and made us feel welcome. The villas are rustic with little lighting and no TV, which is good. The views of Arenal are amazing on a clear and cloudless day (of which there are few in La Fortuna in Feb/March). Very quiet at night and relaxing. The pool is clean, but the "hot" tub is really a large bathtub filled with lukewarm water. Breakfast buffet is average, but the views make up it. Free internet use in the lobby is nice. Work crews were building a roads for villa access which was a bit loud, otherwise, the grounds are immaculate. For the price, I would highly recommend staying here.

This hotel is nice and adequate and a good price. It is right at the base of the volcano which we unfortunately never saw because the fog was so thick during our stay. The only drawback to this hotel is that they seem to cater quite a bit to the tour bus crowd. There were constantly masses of people coming in and out on tour buses. The rooms are very nice and the breakfast buffet is a nice touch with local flavor. The location was very nice at the base of the hotel, but after experiencing Leaves & lizards the 2 nights previous the overall experience was no comparison.

We stayed here one night in our travels around Costa Rica. Amazing view of Arenal Volcano once the clouds cleared. We had our own cabin, with tonnes of room. It is a bit of a bumpy drive up to the property through a cow pasture, but beautiful once you finally get there. The hot tub was on the cold side and the water not not so clean.

You can’t beat Lomas for Price, Location, and comfort. After 9 days in tent lodges we stayed at Las Lomas. I stayed there 3 years ago, but it got even better. The cabins are extremely nice and very clean. My wife fell in love with the bathroom. The view from the balcony was magnificent. The Volcano cleared for an entire day and put on a magnificent fireworks display. The restaurant was fantastic. Breakfast is included and very good. Don’t waste your time eating in town. Dinner is affordable and the food was excellent. A night cap at the large hot tub was nice. Don’t miss Tabacon Hot Springs. It is truly paradise. Dinner is better at Las Lomas at half the price.

Lomas Del Volcan... WOW!!! This was the most romantic place my fiancee and I have ever been. The hotel is up a mile from the main road on farmland, lots of cows and goats and small running creeks. All your rooms are private air conditioned bungalows, surrounded by beautiful foliage and unbelievable views of the active volcano, the property is literally at the foot of the volcano. We stayed in this location for 4 perfect days. The have complimentary breakfast that is out of this world, so many choices! My fiancee believes they have the best coffee in all the world too :] The hotel is very close to everything, the first day we visited the La Fortuna Waterfall (take the hike its great!!). It truly is magic to see the waterfall and the river water mix together. The water is chilly, but it felt good after the hike down the mountain. The location is no overly crowded either at the time of year we went (January), there may have been 20 other people at the river where the fall meets. When you return from the falls there is a darling gift shop with neat gifts, snacks and ice cream. We ate ice cream outside in their beautiful garden while waiting for the taxi to take us to town (taxis are SO inexpensive!). In the evenings we would take a taxi to the resorts with the hot springs, there are two in La Fortuna, Baldi and Tabacon. Both were very nice and wonderfully relaxing, dinner was very delicious also (it is pricey to visit the resorts and food is also $$$). During this time of year is Costa Rica's rainy season. We did experience rain everyday for our 4 days there but it only drizzles for an hour or so and the rest of the day is clear and sunny. In the evenings at the springs it drizzled almost the entire time, it felt very nice though and added to the romance of the surroundings. On day two we registered at the front desk to go on the zip line excursion. A very fun filled day!! We met lot of nice couples as well. Zip lining is a fun way to see more of the country side. Day three we went into the town and shopped around and stopped to get pedicures and massages, I do not recall the name of the salon but it was very clean and relaxing, lots of great deals in town. I even bungee jumped in town which was completely out of character for me, this I do not recommend lol. That night we ate at a restaurant called Lava Lounge for dinner, highly recommend!! YUMMY SANGRIA, the food was equally as good as the drinks ;-) and the ambiance was very quaint. La Fortuna and Renal National Springs is not an area you want to miss when visiting Costa Rica, make sure you plan enough time to enjoy everything there is do here as well. It will be a vacation to remember!!
