“Clean, centrally-located budget accommodations with issues”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

I'm female and was traveling solo on this trip so was looking to find a clean, safe and central location. I booked an economy room away from the street. Beware that the economy rooms have only enough room to just walk around the bed - I was barely able to open and access my suitcase. That said, the room was clean and the hotel is centrally located in town with an outdoor terrace with a view of the volcano (unfortunately, it was dormant when I was there). The two big issues I had: 1) the shower wasn't working properly and although I reported it, it did not get fixed during my 2-night stay; 2) I was ripped off on a tour I signed up for as I was quoted a higher price than that listed in the activity booklet and when I pointed it out was still not accommodated but told prices changed. However, I found out that the listed prices were even higher than what others on the tour who had booked elsewhere paid. I would not recommend booking any tours through the hotel!! For these reasons, I am rating the service and value as Poor.

Thank you for your review!
We are going to take care about this issues, it is not like we normally work and we are very sorry for this.
The only think about tours, is than some tour desk offer better rates than others, for example could be than a tour operator offers a better rate to a good seller. In our case, we have very good agreements with the tour operator in the area, but speccially with those certicated in Sustainable Tourism and those than we are sure than works with excellence and have all insurances in order.
Thank you, beccause these details are the reason why we improve every day.

Small family run hotel in a centeral position in La Fortuna. We had a fantastic view of the volcano from our room 27, as there is from the large communal balcony. The friendly, helpful staff gave advice and organised excellent excursions. Our room was clean, comfortable with maid service giving attention to detail. There was a good, well presented breakfast in a downstairs dining area. Situated on a fairly quiet side road within a few minutes walk to the bus station, large supermarket and town centre. Very close to excellent coffee shops and eating establishments. Highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the volcano.

Thank you very much for your beautifull review!

We are glad to know than you have a good stay with us and a fantastic view from our balcony!!
Part of our service is to offer the possibility to reserve tours from our front desk and add them to the bill, so the guests can pay once all together, which is easy and cheaper for them.
Breakfast is very important and a member of the family put a little touch in every meal!
Thank you to choose our hotel!!

This was a great hotel and an excellent place to spend my first two nights in Costa Rica. It is in a great location with beautiful views of the volcano. The staff is very helpful and well informed. All of their suggestion turned out to be perfect. It is nice to have outside access and enjoy a couple of beers which were kept cold in the in room refrigerator. The hotel is clean, safe, comfortable and makes you feel at home.

I really enjoyed the restaurant around the corner, Don Rufino, which is also a family run business.

Hello!!! Thank you so much for your 5 stars rating in our hotel!
We are very happy than you have enjoy our hotel and your stay with us!

Information is the best key if we want to help our guest and then, of course, giving good tour options and restaurant recomendations!!

Good think in La Fortuna for all the tourist, is than it still belong to the locals,it means than 95/% of the local bussiness like restaurants, hotels, tours desk, tour operators belongs to people from La Fortuna, it have been turned into a healthy economy and organized town. For example, all the entrance fee into the waterfall is comming back to town with social projects, roads, sports, bettwen so much more!!
Perhaps for this we have named our town La Fortuna= it means = The Lucky!

We stayed 3 nights here and had a great view of the Arenal Volcano from our room. The room was nice and clean and had a nice outdoor common area with a view of the volcano. Across the street is a very good local restaurant and coffee shop. My only complaint was that our room was quite small. Maybe we were given the wrong room since many of the people here stated that they had a large room, but the room my girlfriend and I were in barely fit us plus our bags and was only a full sized bed. However, the staffing was extremely nice, which is enough for me to come back.

We want to thank you for your review!

As a family run bussiness, service is an important part of our job and we are glad it was good for you!
As a remodel hotel, we have to profit the spaces, that is why there are 2 rooms than are smallers than others, but, still being standard rooms because offers the same services of the other rooms like AC, TV, mattress bettween others.
Good to mencioned is than every room have an special detail because the decorating was speccially choosen for that rooms, also we have different rates bettween any different room from an economic STD, standard, STD with private balcony and Junior suites...

Had everything I wanted. Clean, quiet, close to taxis, hot springs, and right in town. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice terrace on the 2nd floor. Interbus picked me up there with no problems at all when it was time to leave for Liberia.

My husband and I stayed at Las Colinas for two nights in November 2011. After driving from Tambor, we were tired and ready to be out of the car. We were a little nervous to park on the street as there seemed to be quite a few people just hanging out nearby, but the hotel clerk assured us it was fine. My husband waited with our luggage while I checked in and we were escorted to our room.

I'd made the reservation months prior and mentioned it was our first anniversary. The hotel staff remembered, and there was a complimentary bottle of wine in our room. The hotel clerk the first night, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was wonderful and gave us a great recommendation for dinner in La Fortuna.

Overall, this was a great hotel and a great location but was not a luxury hotel. The bathroom (toilet) was a little cramped, but it wasn't that big of a deal.

Pros: Terrace (we had drinks out here and met with other travelers), hotel staff, location, bathrobes, safe, TV
Cons: Spotty WiFi but worked well on terrace, weather was too foggy for a clear view of the volcano, but that isn't the hotel's fault!
