“Beautiful views, friendly staff, great prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

A friend and I spent two nights at Volcano Lodge in mid-late May. The pricing was fantastic as we were about a week out from high season. Our room was clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view of Arenal Volcano. The grounds of the hotel itself are lovely with great landscaping.

The hotel staff are all incredibly friendly and very helpful. We arrived around 11 am and wanted to go ziplining that afternoon and they made it happen. We were also able to make spa appointments for that evening. We booked last minute tours for the following day as well and everything went smoothly.

The spa is no frills but the massage was excellent. I felt very relaxed going into the rest of my vacation. I would definitely recommend Volcano Lodge!

This is the most amazing place I have ever stayed on a vacation!!! As the first of 3 stops for a Travel by Jen Groupon Vacation deal, the Volcano Lodge and Springs was better than I could have imagined. This place is located at the base of the Arenal Volcano and the views are incredible. My husband and I could not believe how many types of plants there were at this property, just about every 15 minutes we would see a plant we've never seen before (the plants here are so gorgeous anyone would be excited!) The room was clean and in great shape, there are nice rocking chairs on the back patio, walking paths around the resort, amazing hotsprings, and they served some of the BEST food I've ever eaten! My husband is a picky eater and he even thought it was delicious! You're also minutes from lots of activities, we went kayaking on the volcanic lake (with Desfaio) and zipling (with Eco Glide) and you can arrange with the front desk to be picked up at the hotel for most activities. The hotel is about 10 minutes away from the downtown area of La Fortuna, which is a very charming town with lots of shops and restaurants. As for wildlife, we saw LOTS of hummingbirds, a few sloths and toucans but those creatures are more common on the coast; the beauty at Volcano Lodge and Springs is the landscape and it is TRULY breathtaking!

Room Tip: Get a room on the outside of the hotel so when you sit on the porch you've got a view of the vol...

This was our most luxurious stay in Costa Rica. The rooms are all updated nicely. Our first room's view of the volcano was obstructed by trees so we requested a switch since that was the whole reason for staying in this area. The staff accommodated us and our new room/view met our expectations. Word of caution... it is a $11 cab ride to get to La Fortuna one-way. For this reason we stayed at our hotel for meals. The food was SUPERB! Jalapeno steak and ginger chicken were our favorites. The hot spring was super clean and relaxing. The only negative comment I have is most people, like us, probably do not expect the walk from the lobby to the rooms, or the rooms to the restaurant/pool area. It wouldn't be so bad, but in the rainforest we had rain probably 50% of the times we left our room. It was especially a challenge during checkout.

Room Tip: The building with rooms in the 100s was were we had better luck seeing the volcano. It also is clos...

If you are looking for a decent price hotel that is clean and bug free with great views of the hotel then this is the place for you. The hotel has its own springs which is great. The food was okay - wasn't a fan of their breakfast buffet and the bugs flying all over it and it staying out for so long. But other than that the staff was nice and our rooms were fine. Def stay here if you don't want to spend a lot of money !

Very nice, clean, and quiet. Very spacious rooms and very large bathroom. Hotel grounds were also very nice and also had a hot spring. There were tons of options for their breakfast and everything was delicious! Definitely would stay here again. Only reason I did not rate this 5 stars was because I thought the staff was just okay.

Stayed here in early April for 4 days. The rooms are clean and spacious with comfortable beds. In addition to the spectacular view of the volcano, we appreciated the rocking chairs right outside the rooms to sit and really take in the view. The bathroom is HUGE. The restaurant was very good, honestly better than I expected.
The hotel is nicely maintained and the grounds are beautiful. The hotel is spread out, we had a unit all the way at the far end of the property. So if you have any difficulty walking you should request a room closer to the reception area. The staff were polite, helpful and spoke English fairly well.

Side note- We got around by taxi, which was more expensive than I imagined. It cost about $15 to go downtown and $25 to the small airport. There is a steak house across the street up a long dirt road. Worth the walk, check it out.

Stays here with the family for three nights If was very relaxing with a friendly helpful staff. There are three pools one a hot spring
Arenal was obscured most if the time but occasionally will break out and be available for some photos
Activities in the surrounding areas are expensive. Choose something and enjoy it
