“Perfect Hotel in Arenal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2009

Volcano Lodge is such a beautiful place to stay! When we first arrived we were pleasantly surprised at everything the hotel had to offer. The landscape is absolutely spectacular, the rooms are very comfortable, and the staff is very accomodating. The rooms are very spacious and super clean. The hotel provides a large buffet breakfast in the morning which was delicious. There are two restaurants on premises which are great. The food was great. The hotel also has two pools, and two hot tubs. The property is also located close to La Fortuna, about a 10 minute cab ride. It is also close to Tabacon, Baldi, the National Park and to most tours. We can't wait to go back so we can stay at Volcano Lodge!

Volcano Lodge was better than he had hoped! The rooms were very spacious and the back porch with the leather rocking chairs was a dream. We could hear a small stream in the back and had the best view of the Arenal Volcano. We got towel swans with fresh flowers on our bed each day. The shower was made of stone and very spacious as well. We went to the breakfast buffet (which was included) every morning and the food was great. One night we did try the seafood restaurant in the front and my husband got really sick and the food wasn't great for the price...I recommend doing dinners in town. There is also a supermarket on the main road for snacks and sandwiches. The pools on the property were well kept and beautiful with plenty of chairs and fountains. For the price and quality of the hotel, I highly recommend it. Perfect start to our honeymoon.

Can't say enough great things about this hotel! The property is impeccably maintained (exotic flowers everywhere, great pool and jacuzzi), the rooms are huge with great bathrooms, very clean, wireless internet at two locations (including around the pool!). The breakfast was fabulous - large buffet of great food. Enough to keep you going during the ziplining!

Every room has a view of the volcano.

Location is just outside the town (most of the nicer hotels are not in town)- taxi's are ~$7 to most things.

We stayed the wk of xmas - very affordable considering the time of yr (we paid ~$130 night incl tax).

Highly recommended!

We wanted to go to a nice place for our family vacation. It was short - 4 days but so totally worth it.

The Hotel, Volcano Lodge, was a vacation in-and-of-itself! I cannot even find words to define the absolute perfect of this place. It was as if this place was run by infallible robots.

We did have a problem with booking a rafting trip where the order was placed but the bus never came. It was really a downer but they fixed the issue to the best of their abilities though my mom really had them have it!

Also, the food was insanely amazing. Try the Olive Chicken.

Overall, if you want an amazing time in Costa Rica and want to find a perfect place to stay - this is it, hands down!!

We recently returned from our stay at Volcano Lodge. We were celebrating my husbands 50th birthday so our children 22 and 20 joined us. The property is absolutely beautiful with lush grounds that are well manicured. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful in assisting us with taxis, booking tours and generally giving good advice. There is free internet for guests in the front reception that worked well. The view from our room 318 was amazing. We were even fortunate to witness some lava flow after an explosion of the volcano although the location of the hotel is on the green side. That was a real treat. Breakfast was very good offerring fruit, juices, yoghurt, cereal, sausages, eggs done any way including omelettes, fresh bread and of course the typical Tico fare of rice and beans. We only ate at the restaurant by the pool. It was FANTASTIC!. The service was very good however there were few people there since it was still the rainy season. The pool was clean and the hot tub was a welcome spot after a day of canyoning in the rain. The room had a safe which worked well. The beds were comfortable and the maid service was very good. They made the best towel art I have ever seen. The washrooms were clean and nicely tiled with a large shower. The pressure from the shower head was weak but not an issue. It would have been nice to have a small refrigerator in the room to keep beer, water and pop cold. There are ice machines scattered around the property which we used regularly. Since we were there at the end of rainy season, it still rained a lot. It did not stop us from doing a ton of activities. Our clothes got very wet and refused to dry for days. A dehumidifier in the room would have worked well. This may sound crazy to some but the other 2 hotels that we stayed in after Volcano Lodge both had dehumidifiers in the rooms and they worked really well. There are a lot of birds on the property. They were beautiful. We did not see any monkeys here but we saw them elsewhere. We really enjoyed our stay at Volcano Lodge and I would highly recommend the hotel to others.

In November my wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with a trip to Costa Rica. We made arrangements through Central American Tours, who had us spend two nights at the Volcano Lodge near La Fortuna. It was delightful. We rate every aspect of this hotel as top notch. The room was huge and well appointed. The grounds were spectacular. The food at the two restaurants was unbelievably good. The breakfast was incredible. The staff was courteous and very helpful. I took a photo of the Arenal Volcano from our room’s patio, which I have posted. What a view!

I booked this 10 day trip to Costa Rica through GAP Adventures and they booked the hotels for me. I was told I would be staying in La Fortuna but not told the exact location until I arrived in San Jose on Day 1. When I found out it would Volcano Lodge, I checked the website which looked nice, but when I got to the area, I was shocked to find just how far this is from town. Not only that, the property is so spread out that it´s a 10 minute walk from reception to my room, and I´m not even at the farthest end. The worst part is not having access to stores, restaurants, or the various travel agencies, and taking a cab back and forth will get expensive. So they know they can charge whatever they want here on the property. The rooms are large, but if you´re only in La Fortuna/Arenal for a couple of nights, you´ll never be in your room anyway. Also, I found the staff to not be as helpful as they should be. The safe in my room has already broken twice and now I can´t even get it fixed until morning.
