“Love this place! Try the restaurant too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed at Volcano Lodge & Inn a few days ago.. We couldn't have been more pleased.. The room was clean and comfy..The view was AMAZING! And the free breakfast was really good.. The service was also spot on.. One thing that kinda sucked was the internet in the room.. we stayed pretty far down and the signal was super weak.. Although the restaurants had both fast internet and accessible power..

The restaurant near the main lobby was INCREDIBLE. The seabass dish was the best i've ever had.. Leaving the resort left me with high hopes of the food in Costa Rica.. But... we couldn't find a place that could hold a candle to this place..

Things to do in Arenal...

We did the hike up the volcano starting at the national park (10 min drive). The cost was 10 dollars a person and last a few hours total. Super pretty, sadly we didn't see the lava but did see the smoke.. The top of the trail was still pretty far away from the top. A worth whole visit for sure. Be sure to check out Lake Arenal.

On one of the days we decided to do the whole hot springs thing.. We spent a few hours researching the best place to go... we decided that the new "Hot Springs Resort and Spa' was the best. The cost was 40 dollars a person and was for a 2 day pass. Much cheaper than most of the others... I am so glad we decided to go.. The property was so amazing., had over a dozen pools and was truly a relaxing experience. Some things to note, the resort chargers 5 dollars for a locker and deposit of 10 dollars per towel..

The Volcano Lodge was incredible. Great food, fantastic view, newly remodeled room, and the gardens were amazing to say the least. Best hotel we found in the whole country!

Previous reviews we read prior to our trip were mixed, but we chose this hotel anyway. What a bargain! For about $100 per night, got a great room and bath, bigger than any typical American chain hotel. Comfortable and clean, and huge windows to appreciate the garden views and the volcano. Wonderful staff, took a lot of photos of the gardens with its beautiful flowers. Good swimming pool, with 2 restaurants to choose from which were much better and cheaper than the ones we found in La Fortuna. Breakfast with several fresh juices and fruit, eggs, cheeses, ham, pastries, omelettes to order, coffee, chocolate, etc. was more than expected. The papaya juice was the best juice we've ever had, anywhere. We drove past a couple of hotels that were several stories high- we much preferred our one story rooms at Volcano Lodge, close to nature, away from elevators.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Rooms were clean but somewhat outdated. Grounds were nice. Breakfast was good. Nice grounds keeper that took us looking for the green and red frogs.

For less than 100 bucks a night this place is awesome. Rooms are decent size and very clean. View of the volcano was great. Pool was clean. Restaurant was decent. Staff was very nice. Grounds were beautiful w/ all types of flowers and exotic plants. We stayed and the Marriot Guanacaste later in the trip and that place was definitely had more amenities, for double the price. I would definitely stay here again.

We arrived to the hotel after driving from the RIU Guanacaste using the beautiful road around the Arenal Lake. We were looking for a relaxing place and this was it. The gardens are beautiful and are all over the hotel. Room was clean, with a safety in the closet, good size bathroom with hairdryer, comfortable beds, cable TV, coffee maker , very cute towel shaped designs (the ussual swan, an elephant and a monkey). They have a fish pond with two different types of tilapia fish. A jacuzzi and pool near the hotel's reception and the same next to the restaurant; the views of the volcano are great from either one, specially the one near the reception (nice thing about it is that you see both halves of the volcano -the green (trees) and the dark gray (ashes) . We had a deal with the 3 meals included, the breakfast is buffet kind that includes fruits, yogurt, orange juice, coffee, the typical gallo pinto with eggs, costarrican sausage, toast, granola, etc (it's good and plenty). Enjoyed the tilapia and corvina fish served during lunch and dinner, we really loved their cream soups made from pejibaye, squash, heart of palm, tomato and pumpkin. Service was good all over the place.

This place is unbelievable! The grounds are so beautiful. All the rooms have views of the volcano. Our room was very clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and efficient. Upon check in, we were escorted to our room by a staff member, who checked to make sure everything was in order and instructed us on the operation of the air conditioner, safe, etc. Restaurant food was delicious. Breakfast buffet had a good variety. There are two computers available for guests in the reception area. Also, there are two pool and hot tub areas.
