“A Memorable Experience”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We have spent 5 nights at the La Fortuna Suites and we were highly impressed with the accommodations, the sincere and friendly help and support from Robert, Jessy, and Ian (who is now taking over this Bed & Breakfast). They coordinated al of our excursions, including door todor transportation. Breakfast in the morning included coffee, eggs (to order), a bowl of cut fresh fruit (to handle even a hearty appetitte), toast, and fresh juice. It was catered to our specific preferences and was absolutely delicious. Robert and Jessy were both so sincere and provided so much atention to us, we felt like we were part of their family. We strongly recommend La Fortuna Suites to anyone look for a quality and memorable experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite 2, which has direct access to the deck, where breakfast is served and an unobstru...

We just left La Fortuna and arrived in Manuel Antonio for the second half of our Costa Rican vacation. I could not wait to write my review!!! We had an absolutely amazing experience at this B&B. Located on a residential street just outside downtown La Fortuna, Jessy and Robert's place was simply a home away from home. Upon arrival we were greeted by our hosts and their dog Buddy. They had prepared fresh smoothies for us which were super refreshing after the long trip from San Jose. The B&B was simply perfect and comfortable in every way. These two go out of their way to make your stay is a five star experience. Breakfast every morning was delicious and we were able to enjoy it out on the patio with a view of the Arenal Volcano. It was also nice to have some modern features from home like wifi, Apple TV and Netflix. They also took care of booking and paying all of our excursions and then just billed us at the end of our stay via paypal. This was great as we didn't have to worry about any reservations and finances during our stay. We even were able to have therapeutic massages at the B&B which were later charged to our room. They were absolutely fantastic! Robert and Jessy were there for us every step of the way as far as all of our needs were concerned. They provided us with laundry service for a nominal fee, called reliable taxi service when we needed transportation, made sure we were up in the morning so we wouldn't miss our excursions ;), and left our rooms spick and span so we could relax after a long day of adventure.
Not only is the experience a great one, but the location is as well. You are a short 5 min walk from downtown La Fortuna and many shops and restaurants.
Honestly we have only positive things to say about our stay at La Fortuna Suites and we would recommend them to anyone looking for a home away from home during their stay in Costa Rica. 5stars all the way!!!!

Room Tip: Room 2 is great as it's upstairs and right off the large balcony.

LaFortuna Suites is set in an ideal location to explore this beautiful town that functions as the gateway to Arenal.
Robert and Jessy (Americans, if it matters) will do any and everything to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Their recommendations on dining are spot on and their love of their adoptive country is obvious.
LaFortuna Suites is 1 of the great B&B bargains on the Web. Hurry, before they realize how underpriced they are in this marketplace.
PS: Don't miss a tour of the Lake - late afternoon for spectacular cloud formations over the lake and mountain.

Room Tip: #2 is perfect, but all 4 are terrific. #2 has a spectacular deck.

The amazing things about this great little B&B have already been said, but I'll say them again. La Fortuna Suites was a pleasure to stay at during our 4 night stay in La Fortuna. It was the first of 3 accommodations we stayed in during our Costa Rican vacation and I appreciated it even more after we left as I compared it to the other rooms we stayed in after we left.

The B&B is run by Jessy and Robert, both Americans from the Atlanta area. Our interactions with Jessy in person were very limited, but communicating with him via email prior to the trip was easy. He was very patient with my many questions and offered a lot of suggestions of activities in the area. His responses to my emails were always prompt.

We interacted with Robert many times during our stay. He is very personable and seemed to enjoy talking with his guests. He helped us plan our day with suggestions and tips about the area on more than one occasion. He also served an amazing breakfast each morning consisting of a huge bowl of fruit, eggs to order, toast, OJ, and coffee. We looked forward to it every day knowing that it would be the best meal we'd have all day. (The food in La Fortuna was nothing special.) Buddy, their little chihuahua was a welcome guest at our table side each morning.

The B&B itself was so nice and immaculately cared for. The deck offers a nice clean place to view the volcano. There is an indoor common area as well, however we never used it. The room (we stayed in the room that opened to the deck) was very clean, modern, and functional. I am very particular about the cleanliness of hotels, so it takes a lot for me to say this. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were soft (Egyptian cotton!) and clean, and the towels were soft and nice as well. Robert told me they brought the mattresses and linens from the states because they wanted them to be higher quality than what they could get in Costa Rica. There is a fridge/freezer and sink along with a couch and TV equipped with AppleTV in the living area of the suite. We never turned on the TV, but the fridge came in handy for storing water and beer. The A/C was definitely appreciated in the hot and humid climate. The Wi-Fi also came in handy for consulting tripadvisor restaurant reviews on our iPad.

The one problem we had while staying here was a finicky shower. We were told when we checked in that some of the knobs in the shower were not actually hooked up to anything but had been installed by accident, so we didn't use them. After 2 nights of scalding hot showers that we couldn't handle any more, we decided to mess with the knobs, and what do you know, the water cooled off. Once we figured it out, the shower was nice, a good temperature, and had good water pressure. I only mention this because I wish someone else had for our sake! In hindsight, it was great to have hot water in the sink in addition to the shower... something we didn't have at our other B&Bs.

Overall, we had a great experience at La Fortuna Suites and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the La Fortuna area. It has all the comforts of home that you hope for when traveling abroad. Thanks to Jessy and Robert for a memorable stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the room that opened to the deck, which was great and nice for easy accessibility, but...

It was a pleasure having you, & Ben here. Glad that you enjoyed your time in La Fortuna. Thanks for mentioning how clean the rooms are! I'm a bit of a clean freak, so I do all the cleaning myself!. Glad you noticed.

Thanks for such a glowing review! We strive to make our guest as comfortable as possible.
Sorry about the scolding shower. We'll do our best to make sure that doesn't happen to anyone else.

When we arrived, one of the hosts, Robert, welcomed us affectionately with a fruit shake. He showed us our apartment and gave us a map of La Fortuna. Our apartment (Nr. 4) was very clean, had a living room (couch, table, tv, fan), a kitchen (dining table, dishes, sink, big refrigerator with freezing compartment, microwave, no possibility to cook), two (!) bathrooms and a bedroom with a/c & fan and a very comfartable bed. It was very nice and it felt like coming home after our trips. When we asked Robert for tour-advices, he gave us some files and recommended some activities. In fact, he helped us very much with the planning of our program during our stay (unfortunately only three nights). As we sat on the beautiful balcony with a very nice view on the volcano, we also met the two other hosts - Jessy and Buddy (very small, funny dog). Every morning we got one of the best breakfasts with lots of fresh fruits, coffee or tea, fruit juice, eggs with avocado slices, toasts, butter and jam. The location of La Fortuna Suites was perfect: Very quiet and safe and only 3 minutes to walk to La Fortuna downtown, where you get everything you need.

Summary: We stayed 17 nights in Costa Rica at 6 different places/hotels and although La Fortuna Suites offered neither beachfront nor pool, it was the best accomodation on our trip. Best apartment, best breakfast and the best hosts! Jessy and Robert are the most helpful and friendliest hosts we have ever met! Thank you so much for everything!

The management, the ambiance, the amenities- everything you could hope for! This gem of a B&B was an amazing experience all around! So close to town, it offers immediate access to everything and anything you might need (grocery, souvenirs, entertainment, etc.). Bob & Jessy were so helpful and entertaining, making the trip so much more enjoyable. Waking up to that view and delicious breakfast every morning is so refreshing! Highly recommended for anybody staying in the area!

Room Tip: Each room has its own benefits and quirks- but this place is as close to perfect as you're going...

This very cozy B&B is located in the heart of La Fortuna, only two streets off the main road and within walking distance of anything you would need in town.

The Suites is located in a neighborhood, so we originally mistook it for another house and drove by. However, Robert came out to greet us and get us settled in. There is limited parking, but you could easily fit two SUVs next to each other inside the gates. The street isn't very busy so I doubt parking there would be an issue.

The suite was well appointed, with a couch, full sized fridge, sink, bathroom with shower stall, and a bedroom with A/C and a tempur-pedic bed, which was super comfortable and not at all hot. Both the living room and bedroom had ceiling fans, which kept the temperature tolerable without having to turn on the A/C. There was also a big screen TV, but that never got used.

Robert was very helpful in getting us oriented. We were starving after a long trip, but he pointed out several eating options and also had to useful map with ATM locations, town landmarks, etc. He also had a useful tourbook (through Jacomar) and provided recommendations based on what we were interested in doing while in the Arenal region.

Breakfast...an outstanding introduction to Costa Rica, with sliced fresh fruit (with the juiciest ripe mango), toast, Costa Rican coffee, eggs, and orange juice. Perfect start to a long day of adventures.

Very pleased with the accommodations, service, and overall experience. I recommend La Fortuna Suites to anyone interested in spending an intimate, relaxing time in the heart of town.
