Palo Verde made my first stay in costa rica truly exceptional. The staff was very friendly, and always approachable and readily available when needbe. The owner larry went out of his way to facilitate this awsome experience by organizing all my tours and activities upfront, and giving me all the recomendations on where to go to eat and what places to visit. Sky tram was amazing. A view of the rainforest while simply hanging from a cable 600 feet in the air is breathetaking. They have a kickass swimming pool with a relaxing waterfall, and a bar with a big screen TV. This is a great place for all different ages and people.

This was our fourth visit to Costa Rica and our second to the La Fortuna area; over the last few years, the selection of accommodations has grown considerable. One can find everything from bargain-priced backpacker accommodations in town (cheap, but a long way from the volcano) to fancy resorts at the base of the volcano (great views, but usually pricey). Palo Verde Resort combines both -- a great, reasonably priced place to stay with an equally great view of Arenal.

The resort has most everything you could want when visiting the La Fortuna/Arenal area-- easy to get to, close to the various hot springs; far enough away from town to have a nice dark sky, but still close enough to get to for shops, restaurants, etc. Its location also puts it close to Lake Arenal, if you are planning any activities there.

The resort itself is a short ride off the main road on the "good" side of the volcano (for best viewing) and is comprised of several buildings that house the rooms, a bar, and new in July 2007, a pool/waterfall/outdoor bar. The rooms are clean, modern, nicely decorated, and had plenty of hot water in the bathroom. They also had a well-stocked fridge, A/C, and cable TV (if needed). Each room has a small porch/patio sitting area that faces the volcano for daytime or evening viewing. Although Palo Verde resort does not have a restaurant, it is a short drive to numerous places to eat.

The owners and the staff are all very friendly and are a wealth of information and tips about the area sights and restaurants. They can arrange any tours/outings for you; although we did not do any organized tours this time, their prices seemed cheap from the couple of things I compared.

I’m sure we will be staying there on our next visit and would have no qualms about recommending Palo Verde to friends and family.

We stayed at the Palo Verde Resort for 9 days in March while we were in Costa Rica. From our cabins we could see the Arenal Volcano, and at night we can see lava coming from the mouth of the volcano!! The lava flowing down the volcano and the light from the heat was awesome to witness!

Our cabin was very nice with enough room for all for our luggages (and we did over-pack for this vacation!) and high vaulted ceilings. We were never short of towels and our cabin was always so very clean and tidy with flowers our bed when we were back from the days' activities.

The staff at Palo Verde Resort are so incredibly nice, helpful, and attentive. We always felt at ease and comfortable with all the friendly staff from the cleaning crew to the owners. They were so helpful in making sure we knew what there were to do around the area, how to get there, and where to eat afterwards. The staff really made sure we made the most of our stay.

I simply must recommend staying at the Palo Verde Resort if you visit Costa Rica. Our experience with Palo Verde Resort and its staff was nothing short of fantastic!

Business partners Gene and Larry have created a fine experience on the outskirts of La Fortuna at the Palo Verde Resort. What an INCREDIBLE view of the volcano! We stayed in cabinas #5 & 6. You can lay in your bed in your cabina and watch the volcano spew rocks nightly. The vegetation and bird life at this resort are phenomenal including humming birds that will "say hello" each morning on your patio as you're drinking your complimentary "Cafe Britt" coffee. Our visit was in mid-November at the end of the rainy season - we had clear days where we saw the cone of the Volcano then had a welcomed rain each afternoon around 4:30 that lasted about an hour. There are 9 cabinas at the Palo Verde, all have standard modern, CLEAN conveniences and furnishing you would expect in the States. Johan was our "go-to" guy who catered to any need that arose. There are a couple of nearby resorts within walking distance where you can enjoy fantastic fare for a great price. We also met the owners of Pure Trek Canyoning (next door to Palo Verde) who were very friendly and offer a full array of adventures in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, no-hassle, laid back stay, then Palo Verde is your place!

  • Liked — The laid back, friendly staff and view of the Volcano.
  • Disliked — No Pool - but they say one is coming.

I've travelled around the world. I've stayed in many exotic resorts and have been spoiled by the best of the best. However my need to try new things prevents me from staying in the same place twice. That is until I stayed at the Palo Verde Resort. This is the first time that I've been a repeat customer to any resort in any part of the world. These are the reasons why: The owners of the resort (especially Gene) are the most helpful, considerate, kind people I've met while travelling abroad. You feel like you're at home with them. Management and staff (Johann, Luis, Luis Miguel, Wilder and others), besides being absolutely gorgeous, will drop everything to ensure a good time. The resort's landscaping is the most captivating, organic tapestry in the entire area. Thank you, Wilder. The cabins are spacious, secluded and completely modern in a well blended kind of way. The bar is magnificent as well as the people who patronize it. In short, Palo Verde Resort is the best place you'll ever experience. You'll regret not gaining access to this jewel in the jungle.

  • Liked — The management and staff as well as the beautiful landscaping
  • Disliked — That I didn't get to stay longer

This resort has incredible views of the Volcano, and has assembled a group of people that will make you feel at home. This is a great place to just relax or to do all the adventures that costa rica has to offer.

Recently I came on a trip to this excellent resort. I was amazed to see it was a very clean and kept resort. The staff were helpful anytime I needed anything all I had to do was let the receptionist know. The staff did well at making me feel special and treating me as family. Its sad to think I have to go home to Tampa after leaving this Paradise..
