We booked 4 days here to celebrate our anniversary. (March, 2007)
It exceeded our expectations in every way.

We stayed in the Jacuzzi Suite, which faced the volcano. We could lie in bed and look out at the changing light and see smoke drift from it. The grounds are lush, the room was immaculate, spacious, and very private, with a patio. Great jacuzzi. Air conditioning & ceiling fan. Microwave, mini fridge, kitchen area.

Vivian, Gretel, Alexandro and all staff were friendly, efficient, and a pleasure to deal with. Breakfasts are buffet style. Dining room also serves nice lunches and dinners. We relied on taxis to take us to surrounding attractions.

We'd go back again. Lovely area.

I thought the Arenal Volcano Inn and grounds were quite lovely. I liked the simplicity of the rooms. The rooms were very clean and the staff was extremely helpful with anything that we needed. The breakfast buffet was delicious and we loved having the parrot sitting in the tree watching us. We at pizza at the restaurant one night and that was also good. Don't miss the iced tea! I don't know how they make it - it is like iced tea with a creamy lime slush on top-yum! I would also recommend a day at Baldi Hot Springs while you are in Arenal. We really enjoyed it. Now, if clouds around that darn volcano had just cleared while we were there......

Our hotel room was perfectly clean, very spacious and had a great view: Volcano Arenal. When it is visible.... unfortunately weren't lucky but that's all part of the game.

TIp: have dinner or lunch at the Pizza restaurant of the hotel. I had one of my best pizzas ever!

We loved to stay there.

I stayed here for 3 nights in February in cabin 5. All of the rooms are cabins on the hill except for the first 4 rooms, which are attached and are in front of the pool. They'd probably be good for families with children. The cabins were clean, had a TV, A/C, refrigerator, coffee maker, and spacious well lit bathroom. You could look out the huge picture windows at the volcano. Granted, when we went we could barely see it at night through the clouds. My husband and I were there in October 2 years ago and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Watching the lava flowing is truly amazing, and the Inn is in the perfect location to see it.

The pool was nice, as was the hot tub. The landscaping was beautiful. The only thing I missed was that when we had been to Arenal the previous time, our hotel put out ripe bananas and we watched the birds come to eat while we ate breakfast. However, if you sat by the pool long enough you'll see parakeets and tucans and tons of other beautiful birds. Breakfast was a huge buffet and it was included in the price of the room.

The only negative was the close proximity to the road. I could hear the cars at night, and I wished we were somewhere a little more secluded. However, if we go back again, we'll definitely stay at the Arenal Volcano Inn.

The drive took us a little over 3 hours from Monteverde, and we drove all the way around the lake. It's a beautiful drive, but it's a lot of dirt roads and hairpin turns. Quite the adventure! It took us another 3.5 hours to get back to San Jose (at night, and one of the bridges was out so we had to take a detour).

While you're there, I'd highly recommend Tabacon Hot Springs. It was $45 per person and we paid an extra $15 per person to add lunch to it. We spent the entire day relaxing in the hot springs and river (that's hot and tropical- you've never seen anything like it!). I had an 80 minute massage for $110 and it was incredible! The facilites are amazing! The massage was outdoors by the river in a thatched hut. It was so peaceful and serene, I couldn't have asked for a nicer setting. The lunch was a very elegant buffet, and reminded me of being on a cruise ship. We stayed from 10am to 8pm and it was well worth every cent!

Oh, and by the way- if you book a Continental Airlines flight through [----], you have to call the airlines directly to get a seat, otherwise you could be kicked off if they overbook. (we had that problem on the way down).

This hotel is clean, quiet, and beautiful. The staff is wonderful (especially the waiter Octavio) and helpful. Great veiws of the volcano at night. There is, however, one small (big?) problem. The beds are HORRIBLE. You can feel every spring coming through the mattress and it wil squeek every time you make the slightest move. One would expect better beds at that price. I wouldn't stay at Areanal Volcano Inn again for that reason. Also, as another member stated, DO NOT book this hotel through Expeida. They will say you are confirmed, but then say they are overbooked.

We stayed here for three nights and loved it. The views of the volcano were great. The accomodations were beautiful, clean and spacious. Sitting on the chairs in front of our unit and looking over the resort to the volcano was very peaceful. The grounds were very well maintained and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The food was good and inexpensive.
All in all we were very pleased with the resort and would recommend it to all our friends and family.

We stayed at the Arenal Volcano Inn for two nights and it was fantastic. We wished we could have stayed longer. The volcano views were fantastic. Unfortunately it was cloudy the two days we were there so we didn't get to see much of the lava flow or the top of the volcano but it was still wonderful. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the afternoon and evening reading a book and sipping a cuba libre! The restaurant was very good and the front desk staff helpful. We did buy discount passes for Baldi hotsprings and it was ok. Everyone says Tabacon is better but the price is astronomical in my opinon. We enjoyed a hike through the old lava flows in the National Park as well as the hike to the waterfalls. Both are really interesting and provide an opportunity to see birds and other wildlife. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who is considering a visit to Arenal, which frankly is a must if you are in Costa Rica.
