“Great little spot!”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

I booked this spot only a couple of days before leaving Canada based on TA reviews.

We arrived after dark and had a bit of trouble finding it (we missed the turn) but got there eventually.

I loved the little cottages. We had a large bathroom, mini fridge, coffee pot, TV and bed. It was clean and comfortable. I was surprised how nicely it cooled off at night (we never use air). It was so great to wake up to the sounds of nature after being cooped up inside all winter.

The location is great. Just outside of town and on the way to the waterfall.

We loved the La Fortuna area and will definitely return and would definitely stay at Arenal Green again!

This hotel is located outside of La Fortuna. After seeing how loud and busy the town can get we were glad we decided to stay in a hotel that was away from all the noise and lights. We had rented a car for our trip, and would recommend the location of this hotel if you have a car as well. The town is a short 5 minute drive away, as well as other attractions like La Fortuna Waterfall, the Cerro Chato hike and some zip lining tours. However if you don't have a car, then the location may not be the most convenient as everything is a minimum 30+ minute walk away, which in the heat and sun will get old fast. There were many times we drove past tourists walking along the roads in the afternoon heat feeling bad for them.

Our cabin was very spacious and well equipped. Television, AC, refrigerator. The bathroom was clean and had a good shower with great water pressure. WiFi is available, we had connection problems on our first day, but after letting the front desk know they fixed it and the wifi connection was strong and reliable for the rest of our stay. Free parking is available and the included breakfast is fantastic with both american and typical costa rican options. The volcano view is only available from 2 of the cabins in the back of the property, but it really isn't that big of a deal since you will have plenty of opportunities to see the volcano while sight seeing around the area. Each cabin has a great little porch on the front with chairs and a table overlooking the garden full of birds and lizards. The staff were very helpful, knowledgable and polite and had provided a handy list of attractions and activities to do nearby.

The cabins are somewhat close together and they don't insulate noise very well. We could clearly hear the conversations our neighbors were having inside their cabins as well as their television. It's not that big of a deal unless you go to bed very early.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel if you plan on exploring the Arenal area for a few days with a car.

Room Tip: There are 2 cabins in the back of the property that have views of the volcano as well as being a lit...

Arenal Green is a well manicured property with a nice lobby/lounge/restaurant area. The staff felt a little disingenuous while pushing the tours. There is an OK view of the volcano if you walk to the end near the last cabin. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived (we were early) so we ditched our bags and decided to walk into town for lunch. The walk is about 30 minutes so certainly doable but might be an annoyance for some. We took a cab back for about $5. It is conveniently located on the way to the La Fortuna waterfall and Cerro Chato. We walked there fairly easily.

The cabin itself is pretty nice. There is a spacious bathroom and the beds are comfortable. Arenal Green happened to be the only place we stayed that had a television.. it turned out to be relaxing to sit in the AC for a while watching TV when I felt under the weather.

Breakfast was very good - definitely an added value.

I would suggest elsewhere if you need a great view of the volcano from your window or you want easier access to restaurants and activities, but I found Arenal Green to be a good value and the staff was helpful and appreciative.

We had some issues with our room and were promised a refund. the guy at the desk even shook my hand and said No Problem. It has been two weeks and i have not received the refund nor anymore contact from the hotel...which is more like a hostel. The positives- the staff are friendly, it's close to la fortuna waterfall- but you still need to take a taxi. the shower water pressure is nicer than some of the other nice places we stayed. the breakfast is decent. who ever cooks the eggs does a great job.
negatives- the beds- you could feel the metal coils pushing in to your back. It is not close to very many things and you'll need to take a taxi everywhere. to the volcano and back it was 50 dollars taxi ride. to the small town it was between $3 and $4 depending on the driver. They describe the walk as nice but really you're walking on a slightly busy street with no sidewalks. not a terrible walk but not the best either.

The good sized room had a small refrigerator and satellite TV. It was clean and comfortable. Although there was no chair in the room but there were two chairs and a table on the front porch.
A very good breakfast was included in the room rate.
Since my GPS had a tough time finding the hotel, I suggest you get there before dusk. You need a car to take full advantage of the area. Management directed us to the tourist office downtown to buy guest passes for Baldi Hot Springs. At $40 per person including a large dinner buffet this was an economic was to enjoy the hot springs. Bring your bathing suit and your beach shoes to soak in the many sculptured fountains.

The hotel is located on the road to the famous La Fortuna waterfall. The view from the top is limited my new construction and they said that there are no major viewpoints until you reach the
of a long steep trail. The hammock shop on the road to the waterfall has is worth a stop for an unique person and more items than just hammocks.

We ended up staying here for one night as our original hotel had some maintenance problems. It was nice, clean and Melvin was great. The room was dimly lit and could use some updating. There was no a/c, so it was hot when we arrived, but became very cool during the night. The blankets could be a little thicker.

What made the stay was the staff. My wife had fallen in town and bruised her knees. We asked for some ice and they had none, but walked up the street to get some from someone's home. That's service!

Breakfast in the morning was a choice of an american breakfast or the typical Costa Rican breakfast. Being a lover of fried plantains, I went for the typical and it was very good.

We stayed at Arenal Green for three nights and really enjoyed our time there. The location is great-- it's close to La Fortuna and is actually quite a nice walk (or a very inexpensive cab ride). We felt very welcome right away. I'm sorry to say that I forget the owner's name-- I'm terrible with names!-- but he was such a nice guy and so great with his guests. He really cares about each guest having a great experience. We asked him to recommend a restaurant in La Fortuna, and he told us about NeNe's, where we had an absolutely fantastic meal and wonderful service. He was also more than willing to help us book different activities, which we would have taken advantage of if we hadn't already booked them through Anywhere Costa Rica.

We were in cabin #4, which was perfect for us. The cabin was really nice, with a huge bathroom. It had a private, romantic feel to it, and came equipped with a flat-screen TV (although we never watched it) and a great little porch where we ate lunch one day.

Breakfast at Arenal Green was excellent-- we had the choice between Typical and Americano every morning and both were great. On our last day there, we had a shuttle picking us up very early, but the owner made sure that we got a full breakfast even though it was before the scheduled breakfast hours. This was above and beyond what we expected and we really appreciated it.

We highly recommend Arenal Green for anyone looking for a peaceful place to spend time in the La Fortuna area. You won't be disappointed!
