I debated about whether to give this three or four green dots (stars?). Generally the hotel is good. The rooms are spacious and clean and generally the service is excellent. We had an issue with the owners. Cabin/room #1 is the closest to the owner's house. New Year's Eve, they decide to have a party, not unusual for that date. However, they decided to shoot off fireworks right next to our rental car. I watched several bottle rockets land onto the car and found a couple of burn marks on the roof. Luckily, the car rental company didn't see them! They also played their music so loud until about 3am...I was wearing ear plugs and could still tell you every song played. I can understand a party, but you could (1) at least advise your guests that are less than 100 feet away that they won't be getting any sleep and (2) to park in a different area so that your car doesn't get tourched! Some minimal consideration for your guests would be nice.

There are too many good places in Fortuna - when we go back next Christmas, this place will not get my business or my recommendation.

Room Tip: Do not get cabins 1, 2, or 3 (too close to the owner's house and the highway. Get as far back as possible (higher room number)

We stayed at El Silencio Jan 17-20 and were very impressed. The free breakfast was good. We were going to eat supper there but the menu was very limited and over priced. Nothing on it for toddlers. The grounds were so gorgeous and the pool and hot spring clean and welcoming. Staff was very friendly. Would stay again!

We had 2 rooms at this hotel for 3 nights in January for our party of 6. The rooms are built like independent chalets but they are pretty much just normal size hotel rooms. The hotel is a good value. As others have said the breakfast is very good. I was favorably surprised by the hot spring pool. The setting at the rear of the property was beautiful (can’t believe some reviews complained about the distance – enjoy the walk).
Several of the hotels in the area have elaborate hot springs but we enjoyed the one at Silencio which we nearly always had to our selves and saved the entrance fees. One word of caution, the lower number rooms 1,2,3 have a fair amount of road noise so try to get a high number room.

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2 and 2 have a lot of road noise

We would highly recommend staying at Hotel Silencio del Campo. The grounds were incredibly beautiful. There were paths with beautiful flowers throughout. There were so many pretty birds and each morning, the staff placed fruit on the trees to attract the birds. It was so nice to be eating breakfast in the open aired restaurant with this view. The view of arenal volcano is spectacular, right from the porch outside your private villa. There is a hot spring right on the grounds which was amazing to relax in at the end of a busy day sightseeing. The hotel is in a central location, a quick taxi ride to La Fortuna. The staff went out of their way to ensure our visit was a good one. We had lots of questions and they did not seem to mind. The hotel has a phone to utilize for twent cents per minute (much better then our $1.99 per minute rate with ur cell phone). Larson, the waiter from the restaurant, was an excellent waiter and made our dining experiences pleasurable. The room was spacious, clean, and came with a T.V., which made my husband very happy. This hotel was recommended to us and it exceeded our expectations. It is a great choice!

We had a wonderful stay at the Silencio del Campo for three nights in December. When we arrived late at night, we had no idea where the volcano was located. The next morning was foggy and we still didn't realize where we were. Imagine our surprise when the view cleared and we realized we were right there at the volcano!
I was particularly impressed with the quality of communications between the hotel staff and me before our trip over email. Eliomar was very helpful planning our trip not only in La Fortuna but also with advice for elsewhere in Costa Rica. We appreciated his excellent, friendly guidance and his responsiveness.
Our villa was a fine size for our family of four. The room was clean and well maintained, especially the origami towels!
We loved the beautiful hot springs, which had none of the odor of traditional hot springs. The bar at the hot spring was great.
We ate breakfast at the hotel each morning and highly recommend the banana pancakes! The kids enjoyed watching the incredible birds that gathered to feed right outside of the breakfast area.
