My wife and I stayed here for the first three days of our Honeymoon before heading out to the Pacific Coast. We wanted somewhere laid back to stay that was close to all of the "adventure expeditions" we wanted to have in the Arenal area. We booked this place based on Trip Advisor reviews, and were not disappointed.

The staff is fantastic, helpful, and accomodating. We booked late, so we had to change rooms after the first day and ended up with a hot tub in our room. The "cabins" are roomy, comfortable, and clean with good air conditioning and comfortable beds. We spent a lot of time soaking in the hot spring and sipping drinks after ziplining or hiking. The breakfast in the morning is simple and filling, and its included with the rate. We felt very safe on the grounds and the landscaping is absolutely breathtaking. We got spa treatments that were buy one get one half off as we were guests there, and the couples massage was great.

We don't have any real complaints... just know that you are staying in a pretty rural community, and set your expectations properly for the price you are paying. If you are looking for marble, butlers, and five pools., there is a four seasons a few hours away that will accomodate you.

Also one note to all travelers to Costa Rica. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. No matter where you stay, the birds, wildlife, etc. can get very active at night and you will hear them!

Thanks for a great trip.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the higher numbered rooms - they are a bit of a walk from the main desk, but there is less foot traffic by your place.

Recently spent 5 days at El Silencio del Campo and they were wonderful. The cottages are very nicely appointed and nicely spaced so you have a sense of privacy. The onsite restaurant is excellent. The staff was extremely helpful and so very nice. It was a delightful experience relaxing in the hot springs after a busy day of sightseeing and adventures. Centrally located and absolutely beautiful. I would stay again in a moment!

Room Tip: The higher number rooms are closer to the hot springs.

I debated about whether to give this three or four green dots (stars?). Generally the hotel is good. The rooms are spacious and clean and generally the service is excellent. We had an issue with the owners. Cabin/room #1 is the closest to the owner's house. New Year's Eve, they decide to have a party, not unusual for that date. However, they decided to shoot off fireworks right next to our rental car. I watched several bottle rockets land onto the car and found a couple of burn marks on the roof. Luckily, the car rental company didn't see them! They also played their music so loud until about 3am...I was wearing ear plugs and could still tell you every song played. I can understand a party, but you could (1) at least advise your guests that are less than 100 feet away that they won't be getting any sleep and (2) to park in a different area so that your car doesn't get tourched! Some minimal consideration for your guests would be nice.

There are too many good places in Fortuna - when we go back next Christmas, this place will not get my business or my recommendation.

Room Tip: Do not get cabins 1, 2, or 3 (too close to the owner's house and the highway. Get as far back as possible (higher room number)

We stayed at El Silencio Jan 17-20 and were very impressed. The free breakfast was good. We were going to eat supper there but the menu was very limited and over priced. Nothing on it for toddlers. The grounds were so gorgeous and the pool and hot spring clean and welcoming. Staff was very friendly. Would stay again!

We had 2 rooms at this hotel for 3 nights in January for our party of 6. The rooms are built like independent chalets but they are pretty much just normal size hotel rooms. The hotel is a good value. As others have said the breakfast is very good. I was favorably surprised by the hot spring pool. The setting at the rear of the property was beautiful (can’t believe some reviews complained about the distance – enjoy the walk).
Several of the hotels in the area have elaborate hot springs but we enjoyed the one at Silencio which we nearly always had to our selves and saved the entrance fees. One word of caution, the lower number rooms 1,2,3 have a fair amount of road noise so try to get a high number room.

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2 and 2 have a lot of road noise
