We were in the area for a friends wedding taking place at the large resort. Thankfully the cost of the resort scared me away enough to start my own search for somewhere nice, clean and resonably priced to stay. Boy was it worth it.
4 Different couples stayed at the same location as us and we had a wonderful time. The best was the hot springs located at the back of the property. The property is maintained and immaculately kept. The rooms are a comfortable size.
If in Costa Rica again, we will definitley stay again.
The breakfast was great every morning worth getting up early for.

Silencio Del Campo is a great hotel. The private cabins are immaculate and spacious. The breakfast choices are great, and the service is friendly. The front desk staff recommended Desafio for the white water rafting trip , which was the best excursion we did the entire trip.

The location is great, it is 3 km from the town, and 10 min drive to Tabacon.

We stayed in cabin 1, which was close to the main road so it was kind of loud at night. Also, there is a bat living in the roof which kept us up at night, so we had to wear ear plugs.

But overall it was a great place to stay.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights - and loved every bit of it. We headed straight to their hotsprings (and bar) right when we got there and were lucky enough to have it all to oursevles. We also ate dinner there one night and loved the food. Definitely a good place for couples, and GREAT location/view of the volcano.

Hotel Silencio del Campo is a great find in La Fortuna. We stayed there for two nights. There are 20 units, and each one is its own villa. The villas are well-appointed and spacious. They don't face the volcano, but it was cloudy the whole time we were there, so we didn't miss anything. We also enjoyed the private hot spring. We stopped by Tabacon to see what it looked like. It's an impressive establishment with tons of pools, but there are people everywhere. We felt like the facilities at Hotel Silencio del Campo were basically ours, which made the place very peaceful.

I also can't say enough nice things about Eliomar and Vanessa, who worked the front desk. We had not planned any activities in advance, and they gave us great advice. We had read about a particular adventure activity that seemed appealing, but they dissuaded us by showing a video that suggested that there was no real adventure at all. They gave great advice, and we enjoyed everything we did in La Fortuna.

We also ate several meals at the Hotel. The food was good, with the dinner menu changing daily. The service was friendly, and the experience was very peaceful.

This review is written with the understanding that everyone has different expectations and tastes, so depending on what you are looking for, you may or may not find this review helpful. We had a wonderful time at this hotel, and thought that the people there were great and treated us just like friends!

Hotel Silencio is a family owned place that is made up of individual little cabins, a small but beautiful pool, a nice hot spring (with bar) and an open air restaurant. We only paid around $100/night and that included breakfast which was really good. Actually, we ate at the restaurant on the property most of the time because we didn't have a car, but we thought the food here was better than at the 5-star coastal resort we stayed at the following week. And the staff were much more friendly and interactive too, since the place is locally owned. In fact, after our trip to Costa Rica, we decided we would come back to Hotel Silencio, but not to the luxury resort on the coast. Diego is the owner, and you can chat with him as he is sometimes at the little bar by their hot spring. The cabins were air conditioned, cleaned daily, we always had enough towels etc. Some of the cabins are showing a little age-- very minor, not a problem. As with the previous reviewer, we also stayed in cabin 7 and thought something was in the walls-- but then I realized it's the birds that nest under the eaves. I figured this out because I heard the same noises in the morning, went outside, and saw them. The cabins are not soundproof, so anything on the roof will sound really loud, almost like it's inside-- but it's not. (Hope this helps solve the mystery for "voodoo-d," smiling) Be advised, even though this place is beautiful, clean, comfortable, and charming, there is not a whole lot to do at the actual hotel. This is not a luxury resort with tons of amenities where you never have to leave your room. You will need to book activities in the area in order to stay entertained, but we quickly learned that this is the whole point of going to La Fortuna anyway.

We used this hotel as a base to stay while doing other excursions in the La Fortuna area. The front desk people are extremely friendly (we had Vanessa--she's a sweetie!-- while we were there) and helped us set up things to do while we were there. All of the excursions cost money-- between $40-90 per person, depending on what you are doing. From what we experienced, the prices were worth it-- especially if you are new to the area, don't speak the language well, and don't have any business climbing a volcano by yourself. We did the Cerro Chato hike (which was actually climbing a dormant volcano-- we started from the Arenal observatory and climbed up the challenging side, down the crater, and then down the other side to the waterfall-- which is where some tours start from. It's easier the waterfall way, but not as much fun in our opinion. You can tell Vanessa or Eliomar which way you want to go: start at the waterfall--
the easier way-- or start at the observatory--the more challenging way). It's the real deal, you will get dirty. Do not wear white shoes and expect them to be recognizable ever again--smilng! We also went canyoning, which was rappelling down the waterfalls in a slot canyon. It was fun, and we had a safety line the whole time, so even though it's scary, you can't get hurt or fall. We didn't do the zip lines because it was rainy most of the time we were there, and others said that it's not much fun in bad weather. After we climbed the volcano, we went next door to Eco Termales which is also owned by the same family (we think?). It is a bigger hot springs complex where we had dinner (which was also excellent). We did not go to Tabacon so I cannot compare the two, but Eco Termales was closer, less expensive, and we thought it was great. The next day I was so sore from my hike, so Vanessa sent us to a spa (she said she had been there the day before and thought of us). She called them and they came and picked us up and even gave us a complimentary facial with our massage (which my husband was a little scared of--smiling--but he loved it).

Our experience was that everyone was kind, friendly, and enthusiastic, the hotel was great, and the excursions were challenging and fun. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We loved this hotel. Each room is your own individual building so it is peaceful and quiet. Staff are helpful and friendly. Breakfast is hearty and good. The hot springs pool is beautiful so no need to pay high prices to visit the other hot springs pools in the area. Also a nice "regular" pool. Clean rooms and gorgeous local plants. Great view of volcano (inactive side). Only draw back is that there is nothing to walk to so if you don't rent a car (we didn't) you have to cab it everywere. We mostly ate at the hotel for this reason. Food is good!

We were greeted with a lovely welcome drink and I was very impressed with the staff of this hotel. Very nice, and friendly, and very helpful. Our hotel room (number 10) was gorgeous, large with really high ceilings, two double beds, and two nice vanity areas.

There was a place to make your own coffee, an air conditioner and a TV. The bathroom was very clean, with a large shower (great hot water) and they provided shampoo which was a nice change from a lot of the hotels I have stayed at in Costa Rica.

The breakfast was good, a la carte, with lots of options. They provided a fruit plate before breakfast as well as juice and coffee or tea. Tried the typical breakfast, really tasty gallo pinto, with eggs and tortillas, and also tried the huevos rancheros.. eggs with tortillas and a really wonderful tomato-vegetable sauce. Really, really excellent!! Didn´t get a chance to eat at the restaurant as we opted to eat in town.

The pool area was nice and very clean as well, and they have a new hot springs area with a little waterfall at the end of the property. Very nice. They also have a cute little dog (chihuahua) named Tiki, who is a sweetheart.

The number of birds in the area were amazing and at breakfast you could sit and watch them as there was a feeding area close by.. I really enjoyed it.

There is also wireless access from the lobby and lots of tour information.

The one BIG problem about Silencio del Campo is the monstrosity of a hotel that has gone up beside it. It wrecked the view of the volcano, you could only see half (or less) of the volcano. It´s really a shame because I imagine this property would have been really wonderful before.
