“highly recommend this wonderful little gem in the hills”
Reviewed 5 April 2009

We stayed here for 3 nights only, but the service and the staff at this boutique hotel are wonderful. We stayed in # 14, which was toward the back of the property and was between the dining area and the hot springs. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They were large, with windows on either side that can allow cross ventilation. There is also air conditioning if you need it. There was a view on the volcano on one side and the valley on the other.
Eliomar was like our own major domo. Anything we needed at any time he was able to provide with a smile.
The grounds are wonderfully landscaped, and there is are lots of birds. There is an area outside the dining area where the birds feed in the morning. It is a pleasure to watch. We saw quite a few birds here that we didn't see anywhere else on our trip.
There is a private hot spring in the gardens at the back. (Watch for hummingbirds!) Be sure to ask them to turn on the hot waterfall so you can stand under it and massage all that hiking out of your back. Wonderful. There is also a full bar adjacent to the hot spring.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights, and it was just perfect. The cabins are very private and perfectly landscaped (the whole hotel grounds are) not to mention very comfortable. The staff and owner are incredibly helpful and friendly. One day we were the only guests, and the owner himself brought us our breakfast fruit plate to our room so we could eat on our porch. We also enjoyed watching all the animals- ducks, crocodiles, lizards, parrots, toucans, cows, and even the resident husky, Mishka playing with the horses next door. The hot springs are also beautiful and very relaxing. Plus, there is a great view of the volcano, which you can see smoking many times a day.
Overall, a perfect stay- wish we would have stayed here longer than in Quepos. Thank you very much to the staff for taking great care of us! We will be back.

My wife and I stayed at Silencio del Campo for 2 nights and were sad when we had to leave! All the units are individual "cabins" and everything is very well maintained. We stayed in #18 which had a king-size bed and nice large shower in the bathroom. The room was very clean and everything was in good working order.

The grounds on this property are really well maintained and is a great place to stroll around in the morning. There's a small pond on the property where they raise tilapia that may end up on your plate for dinner. Their hot spring in the back of the property is a great touch and I highly recommend you take advatage of it. The temperature is just right and nothing beats having an evening drink in it while watching a volcano eruption.

The staff is very friendly and can arrange transportation or tours, but I recommend you know what you want to do. There are a number of things to do in the Arenal area and they are happy to help you make arrangements, but they don't seem to be too interested in making recommendations. I actually appreciated that, because some places in Costa Rica get commission from certain tour/activity companies....there's nothing pushy about the folks at Silencio.

The food in the restaurant was very good. The included breakfast was very large, always starting with a large plate of fresh fruit. You then could choose from about 4 or 5 entrees... like pancakes, or a typical Costa Rican plate. We also ate one dinner in their restaurant and it was also very good. Of course we had to try the tilapia from the pond in the back!

Overall, this was a wonderful place and you shouldn't hesitate to stay here.

We had another fabulous stay at Silencio del Campo! Don Luis Diego, Eliomar, Vanesa and the rest of the staff are a joy. The service is unbeatable, the views are too. Our group had a great, relaxing end to a long and busy trip. We have stayed at Silencio 4 times and will continue to return. The cabinas a clean and nicely decorated. The grounds and volacano view are spectacular and the little agua termal and bar down below is a hidden jem. Thanks to Don Luis and staff for maintaining this local jewel.

This is the nicest place we stayed in Costa Rica, the garden is amazing, we saw so many different types of toads, frogs, lizards, tons of birds, fish, turtles, ducks, and even caimans. The hotel also has it's own hot spring, which is oh so awesome! It was just as good at the next door Eco Thermales. Breakfast was awesome, and had a very friendly staff. This place is a must stay! One reccomendation however, is that having a car in La Fortuna is a good luxury to have.

By far, one of the best accomodations we've had in Costa Rica! Trip Advisor was right again...wouldn't have stayed anywhere else in the Arenal area. Although my travel agent recommended other hotels in the area, I took it upon myself and went with the #1 hotel choice according to the rating on tripadvisor.

The property is very close to 'downtown La Fortuna'-- only a 2-minute car drive. It is meticulously well kept - I mean landscaping/gardening is flawless and beautifully manicured. There are beautiful plants and palms along the walkways. Each 'bungalow' is also SPACIOUS and meticulously maintained, amazing detail to furniture. Bathroom was completely renovated or new -- HUGE shower area- can fit 4 people in there! Floor was newly tiled and clean. TV, very small safe, coffeemaker, hairdryer, fridge all inside bungalow. No telephone or clock though. Wireless in or around lobby area, not in rooms too far back. Bed was king-sized, comfortable with very clean sheets. Nice patio in front of bungalow where you can sit and drink coffee and admire the Arenal volcano in front of you. Very quiet property-- felt like we were the only ones there although we weren't. Bonus with this property is the huge hot springs pool in the back of the property with a poolside bar. There is a man-made waterfall in the pool where the hot water flows in. Both times we used it, we were the only ones in the pool. There is also a regular chlorinated pool along with a kiddy pool on the property which is meticulously maintained and well landscaped. There is ample parking at the property.

The restaurant served the best Costa Rican food we had during our entire trip. The chef does an amazing job-- no joke! A bit expensive, but totally worth it. We were not pleased with the food we had downtown so we had dinner every night at the hotel restaurant.

The only drawback if there is one would be the ridiculous monstrocity of a hotel adjacent to this property. The view of the volcano is amazing but remember, it's not the lava flow view. From what we saw and heard though, even if you stayed on the other side of the volcano, your chances of seeing 'lava flow' is slim.

If you're up for some adventure, we recommend white water rafting and canyoneering with Desafio-- it was a lot of fun and they feed you well! If you want to see the volcano, DO NOT pay a tour guide-- it's not worth the $$. You can either drive yourself (10-minute drive) or take a taxi to the volcano's parking lot and walk the easy trail by yourselves. It took less than 1/2 hr to do the easy walk/hike -- it only takes you so far in anyway. If we had known this, we could have saved ourselves some $$. WARNING - part of the road to the parking lot was full of huge pot holes!

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel especially to those who want some peace and quiet and not the hustle and bustle of tourists. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and we couldn't have been more pleased with our hotel choice. Thank you to everyone at Silencio for everything! The only thing I'd recommend adding to the bungalows are a clock and phone.

It doesn't get much more perfect than this. Amazing climate, tremendous view at the base of Arenal Volcano, secluded private thermal springs, plus a pool and jacuzzi, luxury individual cabins, amazing staff, cleanliness beyond compare, great food, wonderful location (lots to do in the area with great tours), all at a very reasonable price. A wonderful alternative to the commercialized, noisy, expensive resorts. Wish we could have stayed longer.
