“Sleeping in the Garden of Eden”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

We arrived late in the evening when it was dark and a little drizzly, so we started our vacation out on the patio drinking wine & listening to the rainfall. Having our own little yard was super cool and felt like we rented a house instead of a hotel room. The next morning was surreal, waking up with views of a massive & active volcano from our bed. It only got better from there! We went for a morning soak & swim in the hot spring pool and worked up an appetite, then went for our free/included breakfast that is AMAZING! Rule #1 of traveling: sample local fruit. They didn't disappoint! The grounds are beautifully maintained, the staff were like old friends by the time we left and everything was just ... nice.

We stayed here two nights on a Lindblad National Geographic tour. It is a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous pool, excellent dining room, and magnificent views of the volcano. We visited an Eco farm and took a two-mile hike on the Arenal Hangong Bridges. We would gladly visit this hotel again. The grounds are lovely with beautiful flowers. We also had a deck with rocking chairs, although not much time to sit in them! The bathroom is very large and very attractive.

Our group of 6 stayed at the Arenal Manoa for 3 nights and were glad we choose this hotel over the other properties in the area. There were excellent views of the volcano from our rooms and from the pool area. There are a couple free computers to use in the lobby, large free breakfast buffet and the front desk staff was exceptionally nice.

The property is about 1KM down a gravel road off the main road that runs thru La Fortuna. This makes the proeprty very secluded and private. There's about 40 buildings on the property and each one contains two seperate rooms.

Our family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) stayed in 2 adjacent rooms (in their own small building) on our first stop of our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed just 2 nights and would have liked to stay at least one more. The rooms were the best of our trip, with large comfortable beds, a fabulous bathroom, and gorgeous full wall of windows/sliding glass door with a direct view of the volcano. It was amazing. The grounds are incredible, with flowers or every type everywhere. Per some of the other reviews, this is not an "intimate" resort - it's quite large with paver roads connecting the buidlings. And, it's relatively far from La Fortuna (which we did not visit), but close to the volcano. The breakfast was great, the pools were nice (including the hot springs), and the staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't see a lot of tour groups - the first morning there were two bus-loads who left at 6:30 am, so they were gone by the time we hit breakfast at 8. I do see the point of others - if you want a more authentic Costa Rica experience, this probably isn't it. And, if you want to spend time in town, there are likely closer choices, But it was perfect for us!

this is a great hotel, several hundred yards off the main road. The buildings are interspersed throughout the location which is kept immaculate with various plants, trees, lawns etc. Every room has a view of Arenal volcano. We were lucky that on the day we checked in, the weather was very clear, and we could see the volcano very clearly. Rooms are large and maintained immaculately. Dining hall is a little far but you could request a ride by simply calling the front desk and they would send a golf cart or a van right away. The food is excellent and the service is very good and friendly. The swimming pool is kind of small but there is a swim-up bar and they have happy hour 5 - 6 PM (2 for 1 drinks). Very pleasant experience and I recommend this hotel without any hesitation.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms, but you might request a room close to the office to get a perfect view of th...

We (family of 4) decided to stay in one spot during our visit to Costa Rica and opted for the Manoa in the mountains as we have beaches back home. Whilst the hotel is not in walking proximity to other restaurants, shops and supermarkets, we enjoyed that the resort is set back from La Fortuna and therefore feels secluded. The cab fare is approx USD 10 each way to La Fortuna and we had several dinners in town as unfortunately the restaurant at the resort is not very good and somewhat pricy. The pool bar has a good menu which is much better and much more reasonable but it is bar food (which we didn't mind). We loved hanging out at the pool bar after our tours, but the service can be at times somewhat slow. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful and we booked all of our tours through them. This may be a bit more expensive, however, we enjoyed the convenience of having someone arrange it all for us and take the responsibility to ensure everything worked out ok. The resort itself is very nice and spread out, so if you stay in one of the bungalows further back, you may walk a bit, which we didn't mind at all. We stayed at bungalow 218 and had great views of the volcano. We all enjoyed the resort and would definetely recommend it to other families. Only downside is that the room has terrible lighting and isn't very well insulated so you can hear the people next door, but that wasn't a big deal for us.

You don't see the full volcano all that often so you want to give yourself the best possible chance and staying at the manoa does that. It's beautiful but slightly sterile though. Great facilities if that's what you want. Loads of groups are booked in and we were individuals so felt slightly overwhelmed by American tourists. The hanging bridges tour was wonderful as were the hot springs accompanied by a margarita!
