I was a little skeptical about this hotel initially, only because i wasn't impressed with the pictures that I saw on TripAdvisor. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the pictures didn't do the property any justice. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous, and extremely well manicured. Rooms offer privacy and are spread out in a similar layout to that of a villa complex. We had a beautiful view of the volcano right from our porch. In fact, I think most rooms are positioned to get a view of the volcano.
The staff were very friendly and helpful in offering advice for activities in the area. Most had an excellent command for the English language, so that was helpful.
The BEST part of my stay was the complimentary breakfast every morning! I am still dreaming of it, it was phenomenal!!! I also had a couple spa treatments and that was great as well.
This is definitely more of a couples resort, but I enjoyed being there with friends. THey have a happy hour every nite by the hot springs (that was a cool feature as well!) with excellent drink prices! Great way to unwind after being out and about during the day. We were there during rainy season so it was fairly quiet.
Location is great. There are several activities close to the resort and many tour operators offer a complimentary shuttle service.

What I didn't like:
1) The grounds are quite expansive so be prepared to do a bit of walking to get around the hotel. You can call for a golf cart to pick you up, but I found that the response time was a little too slow for me.
2) The property is poorly lit at night. If I was not with a group, I would have felt a little uncomfortable walking around in the darkness. I hope that the hotel will consider better lighting because this really is the only downfall.

Overall, I have to say that I loved this resort and it is a great value!

We had a fantastic view of the volcano - room 233. Although it was "green season" - every day we woke to a beautiful view of the volcano. The grounds are well kept, flowers everywhere, staff were so helpful. There were some postings that mentioned not so friendly front desk and not so steller comments on the food. We had no problems - actually the front desk was extremely helpful and very friendly. The made all of our tour and transportation arrangements. We only ate breakfast and had one lunch at the restaurant - it was fine; can't comment on the dinners because we had all dinners in town.

The kids enjoyed the pools - one hot springs and another "regular" pool. The only negative comment - the drapes and bed linens could use an update.

The rooms all have a great view of the volcano; you can sit on you poarch in the morning sip coffee and view the beautiful gardens and the view of Arenal. We were lucky and saw and evening eruption throwing red sparks in the air, the thrill of a great trip. There are 2 pool areas one set for kids and families and one set for adults. Michael is great at the bar.
Roy and his staff are eager to help set up trips and with directions. We were able to go to the springs and enjoyed the thrill of a canapy tour. i emiled with questions and received responses quickly.
A 30 year anniversery trip........our goal is to come back in 2 years and stay longer!!!

We stayed here for 4 nights- very clean, incredible view through our sliding glass door of the Arenal Volcano. There are 2 pools, both have swim up bars, one is a cool water pool and the other is a hot spring heated by the volcano. The property is a bit spread out if you have trouble walking so there is a golf cart to pick you up. We only took it when it rained hard. A breakfast with made-to-order omlettes, rice/beans, pancakes, cereal, fresh fruit, sausages, etc is included. The view of the volcano from the restaurant is unbeatable!

We loved Arenal Manoa. The whole resort is positioned towards wonderful views of the volcano. The rooms, the pools, the restaurant, all have great views of the volcano. We were lucky. We were there when the volcano was visible for long stretches every day. (NOTE: There's no guarantee you'll see the top of the volcano if the weather doesn't cooperate). The volcano activity changes sides, while we were there; the daytime visible activity was on the other side but that was fine.Arenal has a different type of lava than, say, Hawaii's active volcanoes. Rather than a slow flow of molten lava, Arenal's eruptions spew out large lava rocks. We saw eruption after eruption, white and black, and went for a night-time viewing of the eruptions on the active side. Cool experience but it looked like roman candles coming out of the top.

The rooms are all the same inside; only the location changes. There are two rooms in every villa, each with its own entrance. Each room has two double beds, hence not a great place for a honeymoon. Our son was 17, so all three of us appreciated the privacy. The bedrooms are air-conditioned, the bathrooms are not but they are topped with a large skylight that permits the steam from your shower to escape but prevents the rain from coming in. Every room has floor to ceiling sliding doors so every morning, we were greeted by a close up view of the whole volcano as we opened our curtains. There are also nice patios to sit out on and have a private drink. (Note: Our rooms were in the 200 series and we had a large lawn between our patio and the road. Some patios are facing the road. Although there's very little traffic - it's all golf carts driving guests - you would have less privacy on your patio)

Other amenities are two pools, one that's cool temperature, the other is a hot springs pool heated by the volcano. Both pools have a wet bar you can sit at or swim up to. Both also have jacuzzis. At the end of a long day hiking, or zip-lining, or white-water rafting, it's wondrous to slip into the hot springs pool for 30 minutes, have a tall cold drink and then go get ready for a night out. There's a large restaurant on the property that's amazing for breakfast (the omelet chef is extraordinary and BTW he lived 15+ years in NJ so he's a great resource for those of you with high school Spanish) and convenient for dinner.

The staff is lovely and very attentive. We tipped a small amount every time the golf cart came to transport us to the main lobby or back so they always showed up within 5 minutes of our request. However, an extended family we met chose to tip only with luggage delivery on check-in and check-out and they also received excellent service. The front desk staff will book tours for you, recommend restaurants and order taxis. La Fortuna is close enough for a night out but far enough away not to disturb your sense of calm and relaxation.

We highly recommend it!

The rooms, view, main pool, garden areas are all outstanding. The hot springs are very "basic" with 1 wading pool, 1 SMALL pool w/ bar and a "jacuzzi" style pool. The main pool area, located by the restaurant, with regular, not hot springs water, is of decent size with a good size Jacuzzi at the side. The swim up bar at the main pool makes the best Pina Coladas (you gotta try it!). The main restaurant serves average to below average food. Overpriced in my opinion, but probably comparable to prices in "hotel restaurants" in the area.

Now for the not so good. Front desk staff is indifferent at best. We asked for a room that would have Wi-Fi access as friends who had stayed before had warned us that Wi-Fi is NOT available in all the rooms. To make a long story short they "guaranteed" us a room with Wi-Fi and guess what? Yup, no Wi-Fi access in the room. The main pool however has tables where you can get pretty decent Wi-Fi reception. Not too good if it's raining cats and dogs outside!!! Also friendliness is apparently not considered a good trait by the front desk staff as I think they assume that they are doing you a favor when checking in/out. If anyone from Manoas management happens to read this please retrain your front desk staff to be more service oriented as it spoils the first impression of such a wonderful thing that you have going over there. Cheers!!!
