Hotel Magic Mountain

Great place, comfortable, clean, and in excellent condition. There were only a few other families there, which made it nice and peaceful for our stay. The grounds, while in the beginning of off-season, were still clean and in great condition. The pool was very relaxing, and additionally so when the bar was open. :)

The views of Arenal were unbeatable, and it was close enough to town to walk down for necessities and for touristy stuff to bring home.

2 huge bonuses at this resort:

First, my wife and I got massages while there, and both were amongst the best massages we have ever had. My massage therapist was Margarita, and she had a very peaceful touch. I left the massage perfectly relaxed!

Second, the restaurant was out of this world! I had the garlic/seafood concoction, and my wife had a daily special with shrimp, flambeed at the table. The dinner was amazing, and the table service was very professional!

Check out Hotel Magic Mountain, you will definitely enjoy it!

Room Tip: The closer the room you get is to the front desk, the better the view of Arenal.

My family and I stayed 3 nights here this past week as part of a week-long Costa Rica vacation. We loved it!! The rooms were clean, the pool was nice, the staff was great, the breakfasts were yum, the wi-fi worked fine... The hotel is close to zip-lining canopy tours and horseback riding (lots of fun, btw). The view of Volcano Arenal was spectacular. I could go on about how nice our stay was, but the real testament was when my 10 year old son said, "I'm going to miss it here."

We stayed at this hotel because of recommendation from a friend who stayed there last October and I have to say it was not what he explained it to be. Dont get me wrong the property is beautiful and the staff is friendly but the service is lacking for a hotel at this price. The location is great and there is a view of the volcano from every room. We stayed on the 2nd floor and had an unobstructed view. The bellboy Jeison was very friendly and helped us out as best he could making recommendations for things to do and places to see. The bar was closed and we couldn't get drinks. When asked we were told there was an emergency and the bartender had to take off for a few days. Dont people have backup plans for this, its business people. The rooms were lacking the comforts of a hotel at this expense, towels were scarce, internet was spotty, and if you wanted to watch TV the stations were mostly in spanish. The food at the restaurant is really good and I would say eat here when your wanting a nice meal and when you want something different go into town.

When we wanted to book tours the receptionist was pushing specific tour companies whose ratings on tripadvisor were not very favorable. When asked for different companies from what she was suggesting she said she couldn't sell those, so we ended up booking our own tours.

Great staff and rooms with swim up bar in their pool. Great location just outside of Fortuna. Fairly close to the Fortuna waterfalls. Downtown Fortuna is about a mile away with many souvenir shops. The free breakfast is a great bonus and the chef cooked whatever you wanted.

Room Tip: I used booking.com for great discounts

Not the fanciest of the resort properties located around Fortuna. However, it was very nice and had a great view of the volcano. You are close to town but probably will want to take a taxi (which was pretty cheap). If you are looking to spend a bunch of money and want to property with exotic features (animals on site, remote jungle feel) this is probably not for you. If you want to a good, clean, basic choice you can't go wrong with Magic Mountain.

This hotel was superb. The view from every room was breath taking all rooms have a sliding door facing the volcano. the rooms are clean and there is plenty of room. the pool was excellent and the happy hour at the pool was magnificent. The lady bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel but I recommend venturing out in the town to find a variety of foods. The restaurant does have a theme dinner, Mexican, Italian, etc.
If you want over easy eggs in Costa Rica you are not going to find them unless you motion to the cook to turn over the eggs. LOL. Costa Rica's best resource are its very friendly people.

Room Tip: Ceviche at Nene's restaurant is magnificent. Ceviche is a local delicacy consisting of shrimp...

The hotel was in a great location for being able to visit the national park and hot springs and also close to town making local restaurants and a local supermarket walkable. The hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. The buffet breakfast was solid. Only negative was that the hotel rooms while clean were a little dated. The view of the volcano and hotel's accessibility made up for that but not the most plush rooms we've stayed in while in CR.
