Magig mountain is a nice and affordable hotel. The view of the volcano as well as an adjacent lot right across the hotel is really a nice contrast of the power of nature and the peacefullness of the cows pasturing during the day. i took a lot of pictures in the nice garden around the pool. ireally had a great time in la fortuna, the fact that you are in front of a volcano is something really cool! The room was also nicely decorated and the breakfast, was also excelent.I would definetely recomend this hotel to anybody and would return myself to this place

We stayed at this hotel in July for four nights. It was a great location for us, especially since we had our own car. The hotel is just a minute down the road from the main part of La Fortuna, which has a small downtown area that you will see all of if you stay for a few days. In the other direction all the hot springs are just a 5-10 minute drive, and the active volcano is a bit further.

The photos posted on TA are quite accurate from our experience. We had our own balcony overlooking the pool, and there was a big field of cows behind that, and then the volcano. We could see the smoke coming out of the top when the sky was clear enough.

We must have asked the staff at least a dozen different questions every day, and they were very nice and provided great advice about where to eat and how to get around. Breakfast was included. One thing we noticed is that they seemed to get a lot of big tour groups. When a tour group was staying there, the dining area was very busy at breakfast, on the other days we almost had the restaraunt to ourselves.

Oh, and the free WIFI was great!

Magic Mountain is a nice, comfortable hotel at the base of Arenal Volcano. The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, the pool area beautiful and the grounds immaculate. The staff was very helpful in helping book tours (we went zip-lining and on a hanging bridges tour).
It's also within waking distance to the main part of town, although the walk back is long on a hot and rainy day, making us wish we'd have taken a cab. All in all, a great experience.

This hotel had a wonderful view, great AC, good breakfast in the restaurant, and a most helpful staff. They helped arrange tours for us: a lava night tour and a trip to Cano Negro. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty by calling American Airlines about my lost luggage for me. The hotel knew about this upon check-in and kept checking throughout our stay. Thank you for all your help!

The side trips here were great: Cano Negro was beautiful and a great way to see many animals native to Costa Rica. The Baldi Hot Springs wwa a great bargain with the dinner and the springs for about $22.00 (bought from a tour operator in town).

The location is very good since you are close to town and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. Vagabond Pizza is a great place.

The view out of your hotel room balcony is breathtaking. I understood that sometimes it is foggy and you can't see but it was clear for us and you can see the back side of the active volcano. Sometimes you can hear it rumbling and see a new puff of ash come out the top. The food was very good and the beds were the most comfortable of our 10 day trip around Costa Rica. They were even better than the ones at a 5 star Marriott that we stayed at. We had just come from Tortuguero where there is no A/C and we slept great with teh A/C turned way down here. We went to the hot springs which is like a huge swimming park but with all hot tub temperature water and to Los Chiles and then boat ride on Nicaragua border.

Every room has sliding glass doors that lead to a patio or balcony overlooking a fabulously landscaped pool and the volcano. Everything worked just fine, from air conditioning to hot shower. They SAID we would not get an internet signal in our room, but we did. Ground floor rooms near the entrance tend to be a little noisy because of an open hallway.

Restaurant was very good. Bar had a number of drinks 2 for 1 during happy hour.

As noted in earlier reviews, expect to pay what you do in the US for room service, bar, etc., and do not expect express checkout.
