“Nice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

Nice hotel - the pool is great, rooms are nice and the bathroom even better. Buffet breakfast is good, dinner so so. The staff were great, especially the drivers. When (if) the day is clear, the volcano views are amazing

My cousin and I just returned home after vacationing in Costa Rica. We spent six days at Mountain Hotel. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Our Casita, the grounds, and the staff absolutely lived up to their consistently high ratings. As others have said, Esteban was very helpful in recommending tours and activities. Bryant at the restaurant, was the happier and most attentive waiter I have ever had. And Carlos, the tour guide, was very knowledge, intelligent and professional. The entire staff at the hotel spoiled us with fantastic food and truly 5 star service. Thank you to all the Mountain Paradise Hotel staff for making our vacation so great and wonderful!!!

I typically don't write reviews, but I recently stayed here with my cousin for about a week on a girl's trip, it was a very beautiful place well worth the money. The tours were well worth the money, if you need a tour guide we definitely recommend Carlos H. He was amazing, extremely attentive, patient, intelligent, and a great photographer. He explained everything and he knew his way around so well. Overall, our trip was such an amazing experience we are planing to go back again within the next year. I highly recommend it.

From the lobby to the rooms is a workout especially if you are carrying small children. The rooms are all up a steep hill. Pool is nice. The free breakfast is nice but the meals are very pricey $18 for a hamburger and the food isn't very good. There is a free shuttle that will take you into La Fortuna every day that runs 3 times per day where there are several restaurants that are very reasonable. There are no common areas in the rooms other than a very small kitchen area that does not even have sink. Not very kid friendly as the area around the pools at the rooms has a very slippery tile when wet. And when getting out of a pool it is not good.

My wife and I spent four days and three nights at this wonderful hotel. The room was spectacular including a view of the volcano and a private jacuzzi on the patio. How cool is that?? The bathroom had two showers, one with a rainfall head and one that was made of rocks and had a waterfall head. Nothing short of spectacular. The food was excellent in an open air dining area....yet no bugs. The staff were helpful in deciding on which zip line and which hot springs to visit. We had a car, but didn't need it. The whole trip, including this hotel, far exceeded my expectations.

The accommodation lies on a hillside; it is a community of small villas, accessed through a security gate. Each unit offers the privacy of screening foliage and a view of the famous but now dormant Arenal Volcano. The four of us shared a spacious “Master Suite” that included a massive bathroom equipped with one of those showers that boasts multiple jets. However, closet space was limited, and the TV was perched near the top of a high-wall, making viewing somewhat of a crick-in-the-neck experience. In the accompanying room, the two “queen size” beds (the web site specs) were only singles by US standards, and our “own swimming pool” was merely an unheated jacuzzi. WiFi was free, but intermittent in our rooms.

Our visit coincided with the rainy season, and we ultimately lost our battle to keep the humidity out of the room. In part, we were somewhat thwarted by some less than intuitive icons on the remote control for the A/C units, but we were also left with the nagging suspicion that the dehumidifier was underpowered. The pages of our passports curled up in protest.

The complex offers an adequately-sized, warm water pool with a pleasant, swim-up bar. A separate open-air restaurant is serviced by polite and friendly staff, although the capabilities of the chefs do tend to peak at breakfast time. Thus, the plentiful and well-prepared menu options for that first meal of the day will surely satisfy almost every taste, but we found the lunches and dinners to be of inconsistent quality. At various times during our stay our group endured a burger, calamari, pork and chicken that were all the wrong side of overdone.

The hotel has beautiful grounds. The best service was in the restaurant. The waiter, Julio and Gustavo the chef are very good. They do whatever they can to make you happy. The food was very good and the service excellent. We had the Junior Suite which was very big and comfortable. The stone waterfall is very nice and relaxing.
