“yay! great stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2010

A friend and I recently stayed at Mountain Paradise on a trip to the La Fortuna area. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and the rooms (especially the bathroom!) were spacious, well kept, and overall wonderful. We each hope to visit again. The complimentary breakfast was delicious as well. Also, John at the front desk was very cute and kind. Make sure you find him!! Thanks Mountain Paradise :)

This resort was very beautiful and it exceeded our expectations. I could not believe the views of Arenal Volcano from the swim up bar. Ivan was very helpful with anything that we requested. Everyone at the restaurant and all of the staff of the hotel were very friendly and accomodating. We will be back next year.

Excellent grounds and rooms, location, pool, facilities, etc. Helpful staff, but trained to market various tourist products/services hotel offers, bar and restaurant expensive. Better off heading into town. Resort-style, but tasteful.

Nice a bad spot but with somethings to consider. We got there in the evening with no sunlight, got welcomed with a nice natural juice drink. Also got warm towel to freshen up, nice touch. Got escorted to room with golf cart, no need to drag bags, big plus since they have private rooms spread out (our room farther back).

Got into room, found multiple bugs. It is costa rica so nothing you shouldn't be expecting. One suggestion, hotel should get bug vaccum and use it before introducing guest to the rooms. Room nice but different from video on utube. No mesqiuto net around bed as seen on video. Jacuzzie tub outside room not bad but never used. Sorry for bad spelling, bad speller to begin with and kinda buzzed. Nice Hotellocation for seeing wildlife. Hummingbirds galore all the time with many other bird species all around. We even woke up with huge toad in outside jacuzzi.

Breakfast solid. We stayed 4 nights and woke up each day with somethig different as main entree, staples usually the same with fresh fruits, juices, and awesome coffee. Great fresh baked breads.

Location kinda okay. Volcano spilling lavarocks on other side. Great Arenal volcano view but on the other side, learned the volanoe was erupting on this side until three years ago when direction changed. Still great view for volcano, awesome view fromopen outdoor restaurant area.

Restaurant, kinda pricy for dinner. Reccomend going into town.

Would definetely reccomend for friends.

We stayed at the Paradise just as it was gearing up for the holiday season. Our room was huge, our patio private, and the service friendly, helpful and fun. For those who say they had issues with mold or cleanliness I find that hard to believe. My significant other is allergic to virtually everything and he had no problems. It is hard in the tropics to keep things sterile and dry but that's all part of being in the rainforest and we did not find anything to be unsanitary or harmful.

The bartender at the pool and the manager at the restaurant both went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We and other guests were even invited to join them for the after work 'futbol' game against one of the other hotels. This was at 10:00 PM! They had vans that took the guests to and from the game, free beer was provided and a couple of the guests even played with staff.

It is important to keep in mind that although tours can be booked through the hotel they mostly are not run by the hotel but by other third parties.

The only negative was the restaurant which although I enjoyed the food, I did find to be overpriced. This is a problem only because of the hotel's remote location. After a long day hiking/touring we wanted to stay on property for dinner and it was costly.

After spending weeks deciding where to go on our honeymoon, we finally decided on Costa Rica and Hotel Mountain Paradise. And boy are we glad we did! What makes our trip unusual is that we spent 14 days in the same place, as most people only stay for a few days and travel around the country.
We arranged for the hotel to collect us from the airport, and we were greeted by a friendly driver who drove us to the hotel.

The Hotel
The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful, with flowers and hummingbirds everywhere. There is always a gardener around ready to say hello and they do an excellent job in keeping the grounds looking absolutely perfect.
The pool is really warm, with a wet bar and waterfall, and you can enjoy a drink or a swim with perfect views of the volcano. The pool is pretty quiet in the mornings, and gets a bit livelier later on when everyone comes back from their trips.
The rooms are also great, we stayed in a Premium Suite and it was quite spacious, with 2 showers (a waterfall shower and a rainforest shower), a queen sized bed and a double bed, a dining table and a balcony with hot tub. Great!
The hotel also offers a free shuttle to and from La Fortuna, where there are lots of nice restaurants and a few shops. There is also a very pretty church. However, the last shuttle back is at 5.30, so if you're going for dinner you would have to get a taxi back (costs around $8).
The food in the hotel is excellent, particularly the baby beef steak! The snack menu was also good, and is reasonably priced.

The Staff
From the moment we arrived at the hotel the staff were friendly and helpful, and over the 14 days were were there we became part of the Hotel Mountain Paradise 'family'. Each and every one of them made our trip unique and special, and we have made some friends for life.
Diego works on the wet bar and he can make mojitos like none I have ever tasted. He became a good friend to us over our holiday, and he is a truly nice person. He is always friendly to everyone, and gave up some of his time to drive us to the coast. We had a fabulous day and he was great company. He is a great bar tender, and his English is excellent.
Ivan is the food and beverage manager and I have never seen anyone work as hard as him. He is attentive to all the guests, and gave us some great recommendations for food. Ivan is the guy who holds everything together, and the hotel are lucky to have him!
Giovanni is the hotel owner, and a true gentleman. He and his wife Isobel were very kind to us, and are a lovely couple.
Roy also works the wet bar, and although he began his vacation half way through our trip, we really enjoyed getting to know him during the first week. He is great at his job and everyone loves him.
Christian is a waiter in the restaurant, and helps out on the wet bar too. He is always smiling and brought us coffee every morning.
Gloriana (I'm not sure of the spelling!) is a waitress in the restaurant. She was always attentive and a very pleasant lady.
Alexandra and John from reception helped us out booking all the trips and were always ready to help if we needed anything.
Noah was our guide on the hanging bridges tour and the volcano hike, and he knows a lot about plants and animals. He was very knowledgeable and loves nature, and he spotted wildlife that we never would have seen on our own.

The Trips
The staff from the hotel were worried that we would be bored after 2 weeks, but we kept ourselves busy every single day. Without doubt the best trip was Sky Trek, as it was so much fun and the guides were really nice and fun. They made it a great experience. There were also great views of Arenal Lake.
We also did the Mundo Adventure zip line (they have the second longest zip in Costa Rica), and there are amazing views of La Fortuna Waterfall as you fly across the canopy. During this excursion we also did rapelling, which is the single most terrifying thing I have ever done. If you book the combo trip you do the rapelling half way through the zip lining.
One very pleasant afternoon was spent on the Penas Blancas river doing the safari float. Here we saw iguanas, lizards, tonnes of birds and even 2 crocodiles! The guide took us to visit a 97 year old farmer too, and we had coffee there, which was really nice.

The Volcano
Just go and see it!
The hotel have started running a bus around to the other side of the volcano around 6pm each night to see the lava. It is about 20 mins drive each way, and is a brilliant experience. During our 14 days we went three times, and it amazed us each time.

Hotel Mountain Paradise really is paradise, and we spent the best 14 days of our lives there. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful flowers, hear the howler monkeys in the am, be sure to get up early to see the volcano - clouds come in later in the day. Staff is awesome - even with the gringos and their pidgin Spanish! Restaurant is great - I don't know what happened to the people who gave it bad reviews. Do rent a car so you can explore - if you are concerned about getting lost rent a GPS with the car. Check out the hot springs nearby and around 6pm the hotel van takes a group around the back of the mountain to see the volcano erupt - if the clouds cooperate. Can't say enough good about this hotel.
