“beautiful and peaceful”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

A beautiful, peaceful and clean place to stay. The views of the volcano are great, the pool is clean and the gardens are immaculate. The spa treatments are reasonable priced and offer simple massage and facial packages in a private outdoor cabana with a river and natural jungle sounds surrounding. We had a bit of a mix up with our spa booking but the management was quick to accept blame and fix the problem. The restaurant was average, nothing mind blowing just classic typical meals. Thought the pumpkin soup made from local pumpkins was quite good. The prices were a little on the high side for the food and beverages. A very quiet and peaceful place to stay but it is a bit of a walk to the town of La Fortuna and you will have to book tours that include transit to hot springs, hikes etc. It seems more like a couples or adult hotel and is not designed for families with small children.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that is on the second level facing the volcano and pool.

This hotel was very nice and the free breakfast was good. We only stayed one night, but I wish we could have stayed longer... I was very nice with lush gardens and a nice pool. The room was very clean and comfortable. Close to a lot of hot spring spa places.

I stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of Costa Rica and this was my joint favourite hotel of the entire trip.

The grounds are beautiful and I was astounded to see a hummingbird nesting (on two eggs) in a bush right in front of reception! There are lots of hummingbirds (and other birds), frogs and toads in the gardens of the hotel.

The rooms were extremely clean and modern, with a great shower. On our first night a huge insect scuttled into our room but the night security man came and removed it for us :-)

I loved the patio in front of our room and it was wonderful to sit out there late at night listening to the noise of animals/birds/insects.

I had dinner here once and really disliked it. I had chicken parmesan; the chicken was rubbery and the sauce was horrible and didn't taste like real parmesan! This was the only bad experience of my stay. Breakfast was pretty basic - although they cook omelettes and eggs to order - but this is the case everywhere in Costa Rica!

Another reviewer said the rooms smelled a little musty. Well yes, it's an extremely humid area of the world, of course there is a musty smell but I didn't see mould anywhere in the hotel or our room, and our bedding was fresh and clean.

I fully intent to revisit Costa Rica and will definitely return to this hotel!

The hotel staff at Hotel Rincon de San Jose got me a last minute reservation here for December 24 – 26. I do not know the hotel before – but now I feel like a found a “home” in La Fortuna.

This is a VERY nice place – the customer service, rooms, grounds, etc are great!

I had a ground floor unit that in the morning I would wake-up and watch Arenal Volcano. Truly magical.

The hotel staff helped setup tours – went to Arenal Volcano and Hanging Bridges.

The hotel is about 1-2 km outside of La Fortuna.
I think the best part of the hotel is the nice waling path that brings you to a river. Great opportunities for photos and I got lucky a saw a Toucan.

We had a great time at Casa Luna! The rooms were simple but clean with nice big balconies, and all of the staff were friendly and very helpful when it came to items such as calling taxis and booking tours.

The hotel has a beautiful view of the Arenal Volcano, I believe it is set up so that all rooms have volcano views. It is about a 30 minute walk or less than 5 minute drive into the main town area where there are touristy shops and plenty of restaurants.

We treated ourselves to the "honeymoon package" at the spa which included a facial scrub, a body scrub and wrap, and a Swedish massage. The service was excelled and set up to be very romantic! It was reasonably priced and included a glass of wine.

Breakfast was included and was a tasty mix of fresh fruit and typical Costa Rican fare. Of note, while the food at the restaurant is good, it is overpriced compared to what you can purchase at the restaurants in town.

Overall we were very happy with our stay at Casa Luna and would recommend it.

Monteverde to hotel:
We opted to take the taxi boat taxi combo. Took us about 3 hours from start to finish.

Welcome/Check-In:
We arrived in the late in the afternoon. Check in was simple enough although the receptionist was not as informative on tours and transportation information.

Room Cleanliness:
Room clean and simple.

Room amenities:
Two full-sized bed and free wi-fi. In-room safe. Small CRT TV. Small fridge.

Bathroom Cleanliness:
Clean bathroom WITH A SEPARATE SHOWER and separate toilet which is important to us.

Location:
This hotel is located at the base of Arenal volcano. A 20 minute walk or a 5 minute drive to downtown area which is the main towns where the restos and shops are. It is located further away from downtown - not adviceable to walk at night as there are no light posts.

Staff:
The staff at this hotel was friendly but lacking in customer service.
Bar staff unattentive and was not prepared and lacked knowledge to make drinks for guests.

BREAKFAST:
Had breakfast all of the days. Was decent. Had the tipico buffet breakfast.

LUNCH:
No experiences here.

DINNER:
No experiences here.

POOL:
Midsized outdoor pool.

OVERALL REVIEW
Wouldnt stay here again. The whole place is just mediocre - service was nothing to write home about - except maybe the natural view of the volcano but you can enjoy that from elsewhere that is much better equipped to serve guests.

Dear Guest;
We appreciate your comment, we work everyday to get better sometimes things do not show up as we plan but comments like this make us be always aware and check what we have to improve. The word mediocre is quite hard for us, if you can check most of our comments are pretty good but we respect your opinion and we will take this as important feedback comment.

Beautifully laid out lodge. Nice, comfortable rooms - why do Costa Rican hotels have two beds in each room? It would have been better to have had a little table and chairs or even a chest of drawers. Clean and with a lovely bathroom. Coffee machine a bonus.
Fabulous balcony with view of Arenal when the clouds parted. Lots of wildlife in the well kept grounds - a multitude of birds and butterflies. Pool looked inviting, but we didn't venture in - prefering the local hot river instead! We walked the little trail at the back of the grounds (take mossie repellent) which was interesting enough, but only took 10 minutes.
Breakfast was tastey, with good variety including fresh fruit, a cooked option and usual toast... The restaurant in the evening was VERY hit and miss. Overpriced for certain, but one or two dishes were very good; whilst others were disastrous. Never managed to get a drink with the meal, always arrived as we were finishing. Over all the staff were very friendly, the rooms well tended and it was a peaceful and calm experience after a hideous trip up the foggy, rainy, winding road from San Jose. Do not go the route through San Ramon, no matter what your sat nav says!

Room Tip: upper floor with a balcony

Dear Guest;
Thanks for your comment, feedback is always welcome. We are hapy that you enjoyed the nature around, that is what we want to promote, also is very important costumer service and our food quality; we work everyday to get better and to have more facilities for our clients. Just an advise, the road thru San Ramon is the best to get to San Jose or Manuel Antonio; the other one could be worts and more traffic (Heavy) around it.
