“Pleasant Stay”
Reviewed 17 February 2014 via mobile

Friendly reception. Stayed 2 nights. Room had a musty smell; not present in other rooms we have stayed in Costa Rica. Amenities promoted e.g. Pool Happy Hour, no staff to serve. Breakfast low on juice, coffee too. No staff to prepare omelettes at the station first morning. Beautiful grounds. Overall average but definitely not a 5 star resort.

We stayed here for 2 nights in January and thought it was quite lovely. The grounds are beautiful and there is also a nice little nature walk at one end of the property. Our room was on the 2nd floor (which is the top) and so we had an extra nice view of the gardens and volcano. We also saw so many beautiful birds while sitting on our balcony. The room was very clean and well-equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We ate several meals in the restaurant (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and the food was delicious at each meal. The restaurant staff were also very friendly. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly, although we really didn't need any special help with anything. We didn't rate it 5 stars because we didn't spend much time there and didn't use the pool or spa, but they looked beautiful! We would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have a better view of the gardens and volcano (and of birds).

The hotel did have a restaurant but the food was super ridiculously priced. It had a gigantic shower, but the room was fairly small. The front of the room was facing the Arenal Volcano they had chairs which you could relax while watching the Volcano. It had lots of greenery so it felt like you were in the jungle.

We decided to take a break from the beach and took a bus here. The change is dramatic - savannah type area to tropical forest. This hotel is more than 3 star 3++. Friendly reception with a full introduction to amenities and things to do. The buildings have been exceptionally well maintained. Our room was in a fourplex, ground floor with a comfortable bed, sitting area, great "family sized" shower. A comfortable outside sitting area for each room with privacy as the buildings are staggered.

The pool is a good size with a swim up bar for those who want it. Pool constructed with physically challenged and children in mind. The plants on the grounds are mature and beautifully landscaped.

Dinner was served an open area restaurant, in a tropical decor. The menu had fish, chicken ad beef items. The prices were very reasonable, actually good. A nice Malbec for $18. pumpkin soup or chowder $3. Rib-eye 350g. $18. Grilled chicken $11. Total bill for 2 including tax and tip $66.50 or C 33,250. Fantastic value!

Breakfast was included - a nice buffet with fresh fruit, toast, eggs and an omelette cook.
I would rate this place 4.5 - 5. Definitely worth a visit.

It was great arriving here, so much better than the other places we had stayed. It was immaculately clean, tastefully furnished, spacious and well equiped.
I loved everything about the place; beautiful gardens, swimming pool and the 'buy one get one free cocktails'. We saw many species of birds when sitting outside the room; each room has a space outside or a balcony. The flowers, little streams and pools and the distant views of the volcano makes it a great place to sit.
The breakfast is good and the menu for the evening looked interesting.
I would have liked to stay longer, but the weather was very changeable and only warm enough to use the pool once and we were off to the beach next.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good as far as I could tell, because the beautiful gardens are extensive.

This hotel was fantastic! Everyone was sooo friendly and helpful which started our trip off to an amazing start. We booked fantastic excursions with the front desk and they were amazing in helping us pick what to do. The river rafting was excellent as was the ziplining and horseback riding day with the hot springs.

The rooms were clean and they left clean towels in the shape of animals every day. How cute is that!? We generally stay in inexpensive to average hotels and expected this to be along those lines but I felt they went above and beyond what I had expected. The gardens were beautiful as well and it's walking distance from Fortuna Waterfall which was AMAZING!!!

The food here was also great. The breakfast buffet was so delicious! Fruit, amazing coffee, omelet station, and assorted other goodies that usually included some more traditional foods as well, juice and cereals. Happy hour every evening and yummy menu if you stayed at the hotel to eat for other meals as well. I love to go out and explore the town when we travel and eat at local places... but my husband and I ended up eating at the hotel 2 nights because we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, it was a great atmosphere, and good food! Great great great start to our honeymoon. I can't say that enough and will definitely go back.

They also have a spa and we did a couples chocolate wrap and massage one night. FABULOUS. You are out on a patio so you can hear all the frogs, you get treated amazingly, and they handed up a glass of wine afterwards. A highlight of the trip. I highly recommend scheduling your massage after dark if you get one for couples. It was very romantic.

I enjoyed my stay at Casa Luna. The beautiful flora on the grounds offer many photo opportunities. I have one series of photos of a mother hummingbird feeding her adolescent! I enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the open-air restaurant and loved having the birds watch for their opportunity to steal a bite. I walked on the nature trail. Our view of the volcano was limited due to the clouds during our stay but on a clear day it would be excellent. We liked the location of the hotel near the La Fortuna Waterfall and down the road from the Chocolate Tour and a wood-carving artist's studio and store. It was a short distance to La Fortuna town with several dining options. We preferred staying on this side of the volcano. We had considered staying closer to the National Park on the other side of the volcano but felt fortunate that we did not. We preferred to drive to our activities and we saved money to pay for them by staying at Casa Luna versus more expensive hotels on the other side of the volcano. It was a short 15-minute drive to the Hanging Bridges and park, etc. The rooms were attractive with tile floors and flair. Each had a porch or balcony with a couple of comfortable chairs. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: I think all of the rooms are good. As I recall, all have a view of the volcano. The upstairs rooms...
