“Grand Costa Rica Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

Nayara in La Fortuna, Costa Rica is stunning, amazing, and just beautiful. From the time you are greeted at the airport with the ride to Nayara your experience never ends.. Check in experience is amazing, Andreas was wonderful and became a friend, as did all of the staff. We were offered drinks and a cold rag to wash your face / hands. great touch. The view of the volcano from our room was stunning. Breakfast buffet was no ordinary meal -- just delightful with amazing coffee. Some of the friends there that we met and loved were Juan Carlos, Johnathan, Bolly, Maricela, Elianeth, Keilor, Andreas, Johanna, and I am so sorry that I am leaving out so many super folks -- you know we loved you and spent 10 precious days with you all. Restaurants like Sushi Amor, the main dining room (Outside experience), wonderful wine room, and the Spa are not to be missed. I highly suggest the chocolate massage! You will fall in love with the ambiance, rooms, flowers, and the whole area. Hotel staff makes everything convenient and "Life is good"!"Carlotta" is the resident bird and she is fun. The Rain Forrest Cafe in La Fortuna is just wonderful. It was a dream vacation. The question is if this is a quaint hotel ... my response is that it's an absolute stunning place, quiet, lovely, romantic, and the grounds will make you just want to stay there and enjoy the pool with bar / food, and Spa.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. They range from great to even greater. Ask for a view of the Arenal Volcan...

After using trip advisor to plan our trip to Costa Rica,we were thrilled with our decision to stay at Nayara Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is absolutely beautiful! A top hotel in Costa Rica!

Although the hotel is not near an airport, we were able to book conveniently through Nayara, our transportation from LIR airport in Liberia to the hotel. Our driver, Lino, was there to meet us as we departed the terminal. He was so friendly and accommodating to our needs. He kindly stopped at the market in Liberia so we could shop for snacks and waters. And he also stopped for us to take pictures of the coatis, monkeys and volcano (in full view without clouds). After 3.5 hours we reach the hotel and were warmly greeted with welcome drinks and cool towels in the garden patio. They even knew each of our names.

Traveling with 3 teens (14, 17, 19) my husband and I reserved 2 deluxe casitas (1 King and 2 Queens). Casitas #2 and #5 are located behind the fish pond and closer to the pool and main building. A convenient location given the amount of rain we experienced during our stay. Both rooms had full views of the volcano (if it wasn't cloudy) and of the beautiful lush tropical gardens. And sounds of the rain forest - birds, frogs, crickets, and running water. Perfect patio for meditation and relaxation! Very private, too! Our teens loved their room...especially after Andres showed them that every room came with free wifi, free local and international calls, jacuzzis on the balcony, outdoor and indoor shower, Britt chocolates & water bottles.

We ate at Altamira (see review for dinner), Sushi Amor (for lunch), and Amor Loco (for dinner).
* Altamira: We looked forward to complimentary breakfast buffet every morning. Breakfast was the best - various fruits (lychees was our favorite), eggs, bacon, potatoes, great gallo pinto and casado, freshly baked pastries (loved the hot guava and ham/cheese ones), omelet station, hot and cold cereals, toasts, pancakes or waffles, coffee (of course) and a selection of tropical fruit juices. It even offered granola bars and prepared sandwiches to take on our excursions.
* Sushi Amor: Great patio view above the gardens and pool. Delicious drink and sushi dishes.
* Amor Loco: Excellent romantic dining at the Nayara Springs. Sat along the infinity pool listening to live music from inside the restaurant. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. A true gourmet experience in Costa Rica. The desserts and coffee drinks were tantalizing. The walk over the bridge to get from the hotel to the springs added to the enchantment of the evening. Although most guests were adults, it is suitable for older families (with teenagers). We brought ours and they loved it.

We booked all our tours through the hotel. We did the Combination Tour Package (Arenal Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna waterfall, an authentic Costa Rican lunch, Arenal Volcano National Park, and Tabacon Hot Springs including dinner). Hugo of Jacamar Tours did a wonderful job at guiding this small group tour from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. We also booked the Sky Trek and Tram for the next morning. It was an awesome zip-lining experience with a top-notch operation. In the afternoon, we soaked in the hotel pool and outdoor jacuzzis, even in the rain.

All around the service received at Nayara was excellent. It was easy to reserve our rooms and airport transfer via email, working with Carlos in reservations to make our stay a reality. Liz helped me book the day tours. Ever helped us get our lost luggage to the hotel from LIR. (Note: Luggage was misrouted in the states, not in CR). Marcella made checkout a breeze and loaded us up with bottled waters. Everyone from this hotel was friendly, sincere and professional which made our stay very enjoyable. We also had the pleasure to meet Angelo, Leo and Ruthie, the co-owners of the resort, who were friendly and very welcoming to our family. They invited my husband and I to preview the newest villas at the Nayara Springs which opened December '13. Angelo, the architect and designer, personally gave us a walk-through in one of the villas. It is exquisitely designed and so romantic. They truly have an outstanding resort at Nayara.

Our stay was near perfect. The only down side was that we lost electricity during a thunderstorm for a very brief time. And when it rains, it can pour. Bring ear plugs if you do not want to hear the rain against the roof. We loved the sound and it reminded us why Costa Rica is so special.

We wished we were there longer than 3 nights. There is so much to do and see in the Arenal/La Fortuna area and at the hotel. Definitely exceeded our families expectations. We are so happy that we stayed at Nayara. Can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: The two deluxe casitas were perfect for our family of 5 - large clean beautifully decorated rooms w...

My husband and I began our honeymoon here and it was the best experience of our lives. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by name and were offered a cocktail (much needed after a long day of flights and car rides). We were then shown around by way of golf cart to where the different activites offered at the resort were before going to our room. We had a king suite and it was amazing. The room was clean, there was an in door and out door shower with a private balcony and whirlpool bathtub.

The staff, from housekeepers to management, were friendly and greeted us by name as much as possible. They helped whenever they could quickly. They attempted to teach us Spanish (since neither of us speak it) and joked around with us.

The view was also breathtaking. The resort is at the base of the Arenal Volcano and we got some great pictures. While it did often rain, we expected it since the resort is located in the rainforest. Overall, we both loved being there and would love to return as much as possible!

My wife and I ended our trip to Costa Rica with 3 days in a Nayara Suite at Nayara Hotel. While I will say 3 days is not enough to enjoy every last bit of the property, we certainly made the most of it. Just be mindful of your spending. It's easy to drop a lot of cash here if you like to eat and drink and hit up the spa (think $800 in three days)!

Our first impression of Nayara was that the staff was a little more snobbish than at other places in the country. We quickly learned that the staff just seems more inclined to leave guests alone and stay out of their way. We can appreciate this, however we had come to expect hotel staff to be friendly and social at all times after staying in Tamarindo and Monteverde.

The restaurants are all superb! We ate ate Sushi Amor our first night and had excellent sushi and a spicy green rice/chicken dish. The next night we ate at Amor Loco on the Nayara Springs property (guests of Nayara are given access to the Nayara Springs restaurant/pool) and it was the best meal we had in Costa Rica. My wife enjoyed the filet mignon and I had the steamed corvina. Best fish ever. We ate at Altamira, the main hotel restaurant, on the last night and had excellent local beef grilled out on the dinner floor. The complimentary breakfast every morning was also huge and excellent.

The main pool at Nayara feels heated and has an awesome in-pool bar. We also loved the three jacuzzis (especially the extra-recessed one with the umbrella) hidden behind some trees next to the pool. Our suite was beautiful. We really loved the outdoor showers with a built-in mini garden. The wrap-around porch with outdoor jacuzzi and hammock was amazing. The property in general is beautiful as its essentially a massive, well-maintained garden.

My wife and I got facials at the renowned spa (first time for me haha). The service was perfect and the atmosphere was very romantic and laid-back. The spa jacuzzi is located down a steep walkway surrounded by jungle. I recommend sitting in this one when it's raining outside.

Our best experience(s) were definitely at Nostalgia Bar, the hotel's wine bar. There are two large windowed wine dispensers on either side of the bar. Each holds about 10-12 bottles of wine. You can use a plastic card to rack up charges and drink a wide variety of wine all night. We met the fun and social bartender Elquin the first night and came back the following two nights to talk with him and enjoy the wine. On our last night Elquin taught us and another couple we met how to Salsa and Merengue dance. It was absolutely a great ending to our honeymoon.

Room Tip: As far as we could tell the entire property was designed so that every room has a great view of the...

Wow. What an amazing hotel. The bungalows are very private - you would hardly know there are others staying at the hotel. The outdoor shower and hot tub were fantastic. Very relaxing. Good food at the restaurants - the free breakfast buffet was a nice touch. A good home base for exploring the surrounding area. Wish I could have stayed longer!

This hotel is amazing if you want to enjoy a luxurious stay in Costa Rica.
Nothing to do with the eco lodges you usually find in Arenal.
The staff was amazingly friendly and the quality of service was more than perfect.
We stayed in a beautiful suite overlooking the Volcano with a hammock and a Jacuzzi on the terrace. The bathroom was spacious + there was an outdoor shower! :)
Breakfast buffet was very generous and they even provided little bags to take out a sandwich or a fruit for the day.
Nayara is surrounded by beautiful plants, views, hidden jacuzzis, unique restaurants, bridges and fountains.
We also went to the spa and did a chocolate massage!! Delicious!
I will definitely go back there!

Room Tip: Room with view on the volcano

This review is long overdue. In 2013 we stayed at Nayara with our two children, then 13 and 16, and loved it! The room was spacious and clean with beautiful wood accents, an outdoor shower and a large porch with ample seating and a hammock with views of the Volcano. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with a very tropical feel. We ate all of our meals at the hotel and appreciated the attentive wait staff and good food which was indigenous to the area. Lastly, the spa was a highlight. The rooms, although private, are open air so you can enjoy the outside while enjoying your spa service. Unfortunately, the only bad thing I can say is that Nayara has set the bar too high and most hotels will pale in comparison!
