“Awesome View!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

We had never seen a volcano so after spending our vacation in Manuel Antonio, we had our driver pick us up early on our way back to the San Jose airport so we could take a detour to go see this volcano. It was well worth our time and effort! We enjoyed it immensely and got some great photos! It was great to get to see a completely different side of Costa Rica (from the beach and jungle). The mountains were beautiful and we saw a coffee plantation and strawberry fields on the drive up. There's also an overlook where you can get some amazing shots! The website is out of date on price and they do not offer student discounts with ID as it states. Price is $10 per person. Sooooo worth it!!!

“A Close-Up Glimpse of an Active Volcano”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

This was a last minute add-on to our trip, and it was spectacular. Try and get there early before the buses arrive, but not too early that the mist hasn't cleared. If the crater is not visible, then either wait for a while or take the walk to Lake Botos. Again, if it's not, clear don't give us easily. We waited 15 minutes and the clouds literally parted and the sun came out. It's probably the closest you're going to get to an active volcano and the view is worth it. The other loop walk is nice if you've got time to kill but it's more of the same rainforest you saw on the hike to the lake.

“Wow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

Beautiful area. Prepare to walk a lot. 15 min walk from parking to main crater but well worth it. Trails are well maintained and there is much informational signage. The crater is incredible. Strong sulphur smell from the activity. Beautiful 60 minute walk on trails through rainforest to second crater. Well worth it. Museum and gift shop are average.

“Volcan Poas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

Great view and very nice scenery of an mildly active volcano.
Still needs to improve a few services but overall it is good.
The journey getting there is easy and has a lot of options to stop for: souvenirs, restaurants and sightseeing / pictures to capture.

“Poas Volcano”

The walk up to the lookout and the clouds disappeared after a 10 minute wait so the crater was very visible. The Poas Lodge was also an amazing place to stay.
