“Stunning hillside views and woodland walks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

The Turrialtico Lodge is set high up in the cloud forest. The views from the veranda and viewing balcony are spectacular and a great setting to enjoy a cold beer or cocktail. Woodland walks amongst the trees uncover a waterfall, exotic birds and lizards and don't be surprised if the hotel's dog decides to join you. The rooms are basic but clean, tidy and comfortable and fit well with the hotel's surroundings. The restaurant served great food and we had a very comfortable night's stay here.

We stated here recently and enjoyed the experience. The rooms were generally fine but could do with some repairs. The traffic was noisy at times on the highway but generally a quiet location.
The views from the restaurant were stunning and the wait staff were very friendly and helpful, compared to the grumpy reception staff.
The good was quite good although not always the choice you wanted.
Lots if birds around the hotel made it an interesting place to sit and watch.

Without a doubt Turrialtico Lodge has a stunning view and the wait staff outstanding.
Initially, we were booked in room 2 in the lodge, we arrived after a long day of traveling and I was sick. All I wanted was a good night's rest, but the walls were so thin I could hear the cell phone conversations of the couple on one side, the snoring of the man on the other and all the conversations from the dining room below. We ask for another room and were accommodated in the adjoining extension which was much quieter with a large window that opens to the garden space. There is still some truck noise from the surrounding highway as they climb up and down the hills.
I am not a clean fanatic, but the bathroom just wasn't clean. Around the sink and the faucets were dirty as the floor along the edges. It is the rainforest and some mold should be expected, but the wood on the ceiling is green with it as well as part of the plaster.
The open air restaurant has a good variety in the dinner menu with sizeable portions and again the wait staff was outstanding. This beautiful setting and two days into our stay they hung a flat screen TV that now blasts away during meals and there is no where to escape it. If the owners were observant they would notice that everyone is sitting as far away as possible. Our remaining dinners we ate elsewhere. So sad to ruin the solitude that we came to enjoy.
As to the complaints from other posters that it is isolated, the bus runs from Turrialba every hour and drops off just a four minute walk away. The unhelpful reception person gave us bad bus info and we figured this out on our own. The buses are clean and cheap, the locals are kind and helpful especially if you speak even a tiny bit of Spanish

Room Tip: If you stay in the lodge for the quaintness, be advised that the walls are very thin. You will hear...

We arrived here the night after staying in a loud small city near San Jose. It was just the peaceful oasis we needed. This is a great place to stay the day before or after a river rafting rip on the Rios Paccuare. There's not a whole lot to do at the hotel, but the views are breathtakingly beautiful and the rooms are lovely. There is a little trail you can hike down to a waterfall and swimming hole. That was a lot of fun. Also, there are two hotel dogs who are fun to play with.

We had a comfortable room in this little hotel perched on a knoll. The panoramic views are great from the dining room. Our jungle room view was perfect for bird watching. We enjoyed the little hike through the rainforest to the waterfall. Isolation is fine if you have your own transportation. We did not, and found that taxi service here is very expensive, and it's too far to walk to town for the bus. The receptionists here are not friendly. They should take lessons in public relations from the wonderful wait staff.

We stayed one night at the Turrialtico Lodge. We thought there was a view from the room but we were disapointed. Beautiful view at the restaurant though. It might be a little expensive for the quality of the room. Staff is friendly.

We absolutely loved staying at this lodge. I had read about it in Lonely Planet and after a long day of rafting found some serious solace here. We had a great supper in the restaurant and enjoyed gorgeous views looking down toward Turrialba. If you go near this city for rafting or the volcano- or are just passing through town - you won't regret staying here.
