“Convenient, quiet, helpful and relaxing allowing time to unwind/explore the many opportunities that surrounds Bambula.”

Pali store just around the corner where you can find most all necessities. Don't need long pants, long sleeves or high heel shoes for this weather or location (on a slight hill). Dana was very helpful and informative not only in booking but about area activities and other local attractions.

“Lovely Apartment, helpful manager, needs some details”

I stayed here in the bottom of the Toucan Apartment for 6 nights during high season in a two bedroom apartment so I could have a kitchen. The kitchen utensils need upgrading in that the frying pans all have knife cuts in the bottom through the Teflon type material, the knifes were so dull they barely worked and without a steamer, everything had to be fried or boiled. Also, be sure to ask if Pierre upgraded the bed in the back bedroom because it was so hard (and I like a firm bed) that I could not sleep on it. Thank goodness the one in the font room was comfortable. I mentioned this to Pierre and he acknowledged that it did need to be replaced. He is a nice man with a good heart and is not always available (yes, he has a life apart from this rental) so do not depend on instant communication with him although he does have a cellphone whose number I highly advise getting ( DO rent a Costa Rica cell phone or get a Costa Rica Sim Card for your Smart phone....really wish I had). The pool is small and fits about three people, not very deep and not very long but very refreshing. You can hear traffic but its not bad because you are 1/2 block off the main road. Its fun staying in such a small place (only two other rentals plus Pierre's room) so you can have peace and quiet if the other guest are that way and also have people to interact with. Its an easy walk into the small town if you are in decent shape. Wonderful beach and the water temp was about 90 degrees! Enjoy!

Liked best: How small the property is and the beauty of the palm trees and flowers.
Liked least: Small swimming pool made it impossible to really swim.

“Great Host - Average appartment”

Pierre is a really nice guy. He made us feel welcome and offered help and recommendations around town. He knows a lot of locals and is a good guy to stay with if you’re trying to get to know the town and it’s people. He can even get you fish directly from the fisherman if you’re interested.
I’ll start with the good:
The location is only 2 blocks to the Samara beach, and about 30m to the bus stop to go to Carrillo Beach. Most restaurants are walking distance and there are a couple of grocery stores close by.
The apartment has a nice size.
There is AC in the bedroom and works well ($10 extra per day)
The pool is very nice to cool off in the afternoon. It’s a bit small, but it does the trick.
There was a coffee maker, a fridge, a blender (we didn’t use it) and a stovetop. There were also one big pot for pasta, a little one, a frying pan, cutlery, dishes, glasses and cups as well as a dishcloth. Dish detergent was provided.
The water pressure was OK most of the time, there was cold and hot water.
1 towel plus washcloth per person was provided. The beds had sheets on.
There are a washing and adrying machines available for $ per wash.
Wifi and Cable TV were good.
We felt safe all the time.
Negatives:
If you like sleeping with the windows opened, the place is only 30m from the main road that comes into town, so you can hear traffic at all hours.
The mattress is spent, the pillows are lumpy, and we felt our shoulders and back every morning.
There are lots of ants some huge ones and some very tiny ones. We also saw and killed one cockroach in the bathroom one morning.
There is AC only in the bedroom. We were there in the coolest season, and it was quite warm outside during the day. It cooled off after 9:30pm.
There were several light bulbs that didn’t work, which made for some dark areas in the apartment at night.
The stovetop heat was difficult to manage.
There was no salt, no sugar or any of the basics. Only a few spices were provided like garlic and cinnamon.
The apartment could have been cleaner. The coffee maker had not been cleaned since it was last used. The apartment was cleaned lightly only once during our 2 weeks stay.
Reccomendations:
Go to Carrillo beach. It’s a much better beach than Samara, and it’s only 15 minutes by bus. You need to bring your food and water since there is nothing there. You can walk to Carrillo town to the store but its a long walk from the beach. The bus stops at the entrance of Samara very close to the apartment every hour on the hour since 6am, but you have to be there 20 minutes before, since sometimes it’s early.
Get the local cheese from the organic store. It’s only $4 and it’s very good, like a mild chedar. I can also recommend the beef raviolis and the smoothies.
Get the veggies at the veggie stand “Dona Lechuga” that is on the main road going to carrillo, it’s only 1 block from the apartment. The fruit and veggies were excellent and the prices were the best in town.
Best place for fish is restaurant at Hotel Casa Esmeralda. Best place for stake is El lagarto. Best pizza is Mamagui.
Alcohol is expensive. Way more expensive than in Ontario, and that’s a lot to say. You may want to bring a bottle of your favorite.
If you have hammocks bring them, Carrillo beach has lots of trees to hang them from.
Bring bug repellent and something for the bites. We got stung by jelly fish a couple of times.
Bring flashlights. There's no light on the street at night.

“Stop looking... this private oasis is the place to stay!”

We stayed in the Iguana apartment at Bambula for 2 weeks this past november, and wished we could have stayed longer! Clean, well equipped, and very spacious with a fantastic private balcony overlooking the grounds. Tranquil (except for the howler monkeys and birds!) and secluded by lush vegetation, you wouldn't realize you're just around the corner from 'downtown' Samara.
It is a five minute walk straight down the main street to the beach. The property is gated and very safe, not once did we feel uneasy about leaving any belongings / documents in our apartment while day-tripping around.
That said, it is the host(s) that will make or break any vacay rental... so hats off to Pierre. We found Pierre to be genuinely open and friendly, as well as generous in sharing his knowledge of the community and surrounding areas. All of this, yet totally respectful of our privacy. You couldn't ask for more.

“Bambula Samara - Perfect for a family”

My wife and I with our 2 kids spent one week at Bambula Samara and it was so much fun. Pierre is an awsome host and he has built a little paradise that any trveler would enjoy. The houses are very clean and the yard is filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees. The kids loved the pool and I love the hammock ;)
The town of Playa Samara is quite charming and everything is in walking distance from Pierre's lovely Bambula Samara. I recomend this place to any travelers visiting this area of Costa Rica.
