We arrived late at night. The resort was a little hard to drive to. They were waiting for us and were super nice. We got the room with the Volcano view. The room was large - perfect for a family. The deck had a hot tub and large patio open to the forest with a view of the volcano. The bad thing was that the clouds blocked most of the volcano. The free lunch was tasty - but the flies and wasps/bees went right to the food and there was no way to eat it. The pool was small with an intense chlorine smell. The place is beautiful, by there is little to do. The resort is by a large lake with water sports, which looked fun.

We stayed in a second floor luxury suite and absolutely loved everything about this resort. We had a perfect view of the volcano and the rainforest, and the detail in the room was absolutely amazing. The open air jacuzzi on the balcony was exactly what we needed after spending a day at the Mistico Hanging Bridges (minutes away from the resort) and the 1968 hiking trail. The room itself looks exactly like the pictures on the website. They had champagne and a basket of chocolates waiting in the room and even brought in an actual second bed (not a rollaway) for our child to sleep on. Everything from the beautifully landscaped grounds, to the pools, restaurant, and the staff were perfect. I highly recommend this resort if you are staying in La Fortuna!

First, just know that getting to this location is an adventure. It's about a 3 hour drive over mountainous terrain and winding roads to get here, but totally worth it. Also the final road, just past Arenal Dam is also steep and windy - lots of time in 1st / low gears.
That being said, once you are here, it's fantastic. The resort feels like a lodge - lots of wood and tile (that looks like wood). It's nestled halfway up the hill to Mistico Hanging Bridges - they even gave us a ride up to to Mistico from the resort.
The people are incredibly friendly and helpful, the room we were in was large and clean, with a king bed, large bathroom with shower, jacuzzi tub outdoors on the covered balcony. Fantastic views of Arenal, amazing bird watching from our balcony - hummingbirds, tanagers, we even saw toucans.
The restaurant is ok, certainly serviceable, free breakfast was varied (eggs, fried plantains, gallo pinto, cheese, toast, juice, some meat option) fruit, yogurt, cereal - you'll find something you can eat. There is a bar, two pools. The grounds are kinda steep, but they will drive you around the lodge in their golf carts if you ask them to.
There are trails on the property, a spa, and La Fortuna and many activities in the Arenal area are within a 30 minute drive (we had our own car)
Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in in this area. Its not on the main drag with all the other resorts, but up in the trees.

Room Tip: We were in Room 20, jacuzzi tub, corner balcony, great view of birds, trees, volcano.

Loved our stay in the rainforest at this hillside retreat- great staff, natural setting, views and trails, but dinner at hotel was pricey. Staff was helpful and friendly. Quiet and peaceful with lots of bird and nature sounds and chirping. Nice warm bar pool. The lower level pool is nice but cold.

Room Tip: beautiful setting and views in natural hillside of rainforest near Arenal volcano, stunning setting.

We moved to Arenal from Torteguero. The journey took around 5 hours in total, including stop for lunch at Guapiles. From Guapiles, Lost Iguana was around 3.5 hours drive. The Lost Iguana is a beautiful resort, set deep in the woods and our room (Room 44) very comfortable slept the 5 of us, and had fantastic views of the volcano.
The food is excellent, the service is very friendly, it is spotlessly clean, has a couple of nice pools and a Spa offering a variety of massages and a small gym. August is a bit off season being right at the start of Rainy Season so the resort is quite quiet, as are all the tours.
Our first full day was fantastic, it started with an Arenal Volcano Park tour, our Arenal Adventures Guide was Gustavo - he was brilliant, knew all about the geology, geography and wildlife. We did a 4k walk and took around 2 hours or so. We then went up to La Fortuna waterfall and after a 500 step descent (you have to ascend the same way, it's tiring) we arrived at the foot of the waterfall where you can bathe freely, an exhilarating experience. We then went for lunch at a local farm (delicious food) where Gustavo left and we went to the hanging bridges tour. We were unlucky as the heavens opened just as we started so while the forest was fascinating, despite having waterproofs we were soaked. From there we went to a nearby hotel to bathe in hot springs.
On day 2 - as I'm writing this, we have just come back from Balsa River rafting. We did a 10Km run down level II and III rapids. Our guide from Wave Rafting was Mario - he was brilliant - a great laugh and pointed out some really interesting wildlife.
Tomorrow we are Sky Tram and Trekking (Canopy zip line) before we go on to Monte Verde.

Room Tip: Room 44 has stunning views of sunrise and the Volcano
