Not alot of choices in Liberia. The rooms were a bit old. The pool was full of kids, possibly pee. AC worked good, staff was helpful. We stayed the night there so we could fly out early at 7am.

We got stuck here for a night when our flight leaving Costa Rica was canceled. US Airways chose the hotel. It's an older place that's clean, but probably not worth whatever rate you would be paying. It reminded me of a camp cabin. The room was small and the A/C didn't work. The shower water didn't reach luke warm. The beds are so low you're practically on the floor.

US Airways also gave us a food voucher so we had dinner in the restaurant on site. It's all American food such as ham sandwiches and club sandwiches. No Costa Rican fare here. The service was good though.

Surprisingly, they had a decent wine list and I found a Chilean sauvignon blanc. It must be the popular wine because I'd had it elsewhere in the Guanacaste area.

The pool looked small but decent. They also had a computer in the lobby where guests could use the internet and a small casino.

It wasn't terrible, but you might as well stay in a youth hostel and save some money, or spend more and go to an all-inclusive resort. It's definitely not the "Executive suites" they advertise it to be.

My experience of this hotel was fine. The hotel is rather pretty, clean and well-kept. Most of the public areas like reception and the lounge were open to the warm breezes. The pool area was nice. I didn't mind being out of the town area since we had a car and could drive in if we wanted. The rooms were average with all the amenities one would expect.

The one thing that turned out to be a real downer was the phone bill I received when I arrived home. The room phone had big signs on it and instructions on how to make international phone calls. Each 2-minute call ended up costing close to $40.

Breakfast was included and adequate. We stayed there on our last night. The reason I feel it's good value for the price was that on our first night, we stayed at a hotel in the town of Liberia which was tipico and basic for 2/3 of the price of this hotel which was way better.

The reason I put it is what it is, was because justly we are in a third world country. My goodness, most of the roads aren't even paved! The hotel was clean. The remodeling that we saw will be great when they finish. The grounds around the hotel were beautiful. We had clean towels, and the breakfast had choices, with Tico food and fruit.

We booked this bc we had a flight the next day.

It is not near anything else. The place is in need of a serious facelift. The food for dinner was terrible. The highlight of the room was the TV and airconditioning.

The bed is like a bad cot. The pillows had lumps. We stayed under the sheet pretty much the whole time we were in the room bc we were fighting misquitos.

The pool area was not horrible and breakfast included.

If i had to do it over, i would stay at the other best western= only bc it is around other shops/restaurantaunts if you want to go out.

Also- cab ride to airport was 15 dollars american.

I'm hesitant to give this hotel a terrible review only because I fear there's nothing better in Liberia. We decided to stay at Las Espuelas after going to our initial accomodations of El Punto which was at the center of town next to a busy bus stop. Worried about safety, we decided to travel to Las Espuelas which was down the main road a couple of kilometers away from town. We were only staying in Liberia because we had a 7 am flight the next morning. The good part: The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful. She helped to cancel our reservation at El Punto and spoke English very well. She gave us a room close to the front desk and was helpful in trying to negotiate a rate (as we thought we may have to pay for the El Punto room as well). She arranged a wake up call and taxi, both of which were promt at 4 am in the morning. The bad: the hotel in general did not appear to be very clean, although it wasn't particularly dirty, just not a comfortable environment. All of the rooms are on the ground floor and open to the outdoors. Becaues you are on the ground floor-perfectly level with the ground, bugs were in the room, there was no good seal on the door to keep them out. The floor of the room was cement-again adding that dirty feel. The beds were hard as a rock, and there were 2 single beds instead of a King. The room did have a/c, but the bedside lights did not work. I was glad we were only going to be there for 12 hrs and as I didn't feel that our belongings were particularly safe, we spent most of those hours in the room. These were certainly basic accomodations, for which, in Costa Rica, I would expect to pay ~$25, but paid $60.

Recommendation-try the pastries/empanadas at the big grocery store at the intersection of the Interamericana and the road to the airport. Cheap and good dinner!

We spent our first night here on arrival to Liberia early in Dec. 05. We were given a room in the back section of the complex (#39?), all rooms being in single storey rows. The double bed and ventilation there were both bad. In a unit nearby there was a loud TV that did not turn off til 5 or 6 am. It was a stuggle for a wink of sleep that night but lucky for us we did not have to get up early for anything. We departed in the afternoon.
We had already booked and pre-paid for a room there for our final night in the country before flying home from the Liberia airport. We were dreading the prospect of another overnight stay there. However, our second night there two weeks later turned out to be a comfortable experience.
A new woman was at the front desk who could speak good english and was very helpful. She gave us a room close to the office ( #6) w/king bed. The a/c worked perfectly. I must say that the restaurant served good food & big portions for a reasonable price and the staff there were always friendly. Usually one english-speaking man was on duty there.
Worth a chance -- you just might be lucky with this accommodation. There may be little better options in town to choose from ? Modestly designed but clean, well maintained.
