“Pretty good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

We stayed at Ciudad Blanca for one night in January 2012. Room was pretty big, nice, and clean. Restaurant was pretty good. Staff helpfulness and friendliness was average to good. Price is pretty good for one or two nights.

I think this hotel is now called La Siesta. It's clean and perfectly functional. Rough Guide Cosa Rica describes it as having cold showers and they are! We came to Liberia, just to say we'd been here and to be honest; it's not worth it. There is very little to see even if one loves colonial architecture, you would see far better examples in Antigua in Guatemala or Cusco in Peru. Avoid this one avenue town or stay outside it to see the sites of the Guanacaste region. It also roved difficult to get a shuttl bus to move on to the south or even Puntarenas. At one point we thought we might have to fly to San Jose and then down to Tamar in order to get to Santa Teresa. thankfully the lovely Gisele Arias and her colleague at Liberia Travel on Avenida 25 Julio were able to book us a shuttle to Mal Pais

We stayed only 1 night in this hotel as we read about the "colonial" styled town of Liberia. Firstly, there is only 1 street that is actually worth seeing. So you're done in half an hour and an overnight stay is not really necessary.
This hotel isn't very impressive either. The staff (a 60 year old, a worker with moustache and the cleaner) don't speak English apart from "Ok" and "Not ok". It's cheap - 45 USD with breakfast included - but the rooms are not very attractive. There was only 1 light in the room - which was the main (and very bright) one. No bedside tables and little space. The tv didn't work (the cable connections was disturbed) and the bathroom was tiny (but yes, with warm water). The room wasn't cleaned when we arrived, then the cleaner showed up half an hour later and cleaned but made the room smell awful of some sort of very strong varnish... Ants were all over the place, but this isn't rare in Costa Rica... The room did have AC, which is definitely a plus.
It's okay as an overnight stop, but don't make this into your base location for heading to the beaches...

We only spent one night here and that was enough. Whilst the room was pleasant enough, the louvred windows weren't enough to block out the sounds of the yard which the hotel rooms overlook. This neighbouring yard contains dogs, chickens (yes, roosters) and geese. These constantly bray and bark all night so that the chance of getting a good night's sleep is nearly impossible - even if you are really tired. Also the "hot shower" which they advertise is nothing more than a trickle and not worth paying the extra money for.
