We stayed at the Santa Ana in January 2013 for our last night in Costa Rica. We went from Liberia to the airport by bus to enquire about accommodation from the tourist information desk. The representative who was very efficient, telephoned the Santa Ana to ask if they had a vacancy. They came to collect us. We could have got off the bus outside the hotel but didn’t know, at that time, if they had a vacancy. Our room was quiet and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a good lunch downstairs and bought snacks and drinks from the vending machine. The next morning we had a nice breakfast and were driven back to the airport.
The Santa Ana provides an excellent, cheap alternative to the Hilton. It is easily accessible by bus, taxi or car from both the airport and the town.
There is even a doctor available downstairs in the morning

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel which was lovely and quiet.

Arrived at 10pm to bring my husband to a 6am flight the next day. Small simple room, seemed clean. Good shower. Reasonable rate. Good breakfast in attached resturant, $6. Prefect for what we needed. However when I leave next week and have to be dropped at the hotel @ 11am the day before my 6am flight, I'm stasying at the Hilton. :)

Room Tip: get a room as far away from the road as possible

We reserved a room for our first night in Costa Rica. We took a cab from the airport which cost us $12. When we got there, they didn't have our reservation, but we were able to get a room. The room seemed nice enough, but the bed was very hard. Nevertheless, we were so tired after a day of flying, we thought we would go right to sleep, but the road noise was terrible. It was like trying to sleep next to the freeway. Between the hard bed and traffic noise, we didn't sleep much at all. In the morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast and it was really good. We were going to stay here our last night in Costa Rica before going to the airport, but we decided to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn instead because we needed to get a good night's sleep.

My new wife and I were just finishing up our honeymoon and booked a room close to the airport for the night before our flight. Upon arriving we were shown our room which was down a dark open air hallway and the room had no window to the outside. Upon opening the room the odor was awful. We were hungry so dropped our stuff off and asked the front desk to call us a taxi so that we could eat. They then offered to drive us the 5km for 10 US which sounded high- they said it would cost us more than 25, so we took the bus for less than a dollar each. When returning we caught a cab for less than 6 US. So I suppose honesty also isn't a trait they possess. Once we got back the wind was whipping so hard down the hall and the noise from the road was so bad. We then layed on the bed, felt bugs and decided to get outta there and went to the Hilton down the road which was great.
