I recently stayed at Villa Buena Onda for my 30th birthday with two friends, I was not sure what to expect when staying there, I had read all the reviews on here and thought could it really be that good? It was! Upon arriving Jennifer greeted us with fresh towels and a welcome drink, just what we needed after the long drive up the Pacific Coast! The service never changed from that moment on, they were so attentive to our needs and made sure we were really well taken care of! We had the two bedroom suite which for a group of friends is perfect! It felt like we had a whole wing of the hotel to ourselves and I loved the easy access to the pool. The beds were great, I was sad to leave the comfortable mattresses and fluffy pillows!

Most of my time was spent in the pool drinking delicious cocktails made by Javier or Cristian, both incredible bartenders! While leaving the villa is hard, the great thing about the area and the shuttle they provide is that you get access to 3 beaches not just 1!

Now to my favorite part-the food, we had delicious meals for every meal, but my favorite was the seared-tuna! Make sure to try this if you are fish lover! Also the fish tacos are delicious and who doesn't love waking up to a plate of banana pancakes?

I really enjoyed Villa Buena Onda and hope that I will get to come back soon!

We had a great trip to Costa Rica organized by Costa Rica vacations. The best place we stayed was the Villa Buena Onda. The view was beautiful, the food and service excellent. The staff did everything to make sure you felt at home. It was great to relax in the pool or dine outside and see the beautiful flowers and ocean. It is close to 3 beaches which they provide a shuttle for. This is by far one of the best places we have ever stayed and would love to go back just to relax. We highly recommend this beautiful hotel. Our thanks to Dayana Jennifer Luis Javier and Christian! They were wonderful! Go see for yourself! You will love it!

Room Tip: There are rooms with hammocks outside your door. If you like to just relax ask for one of those.

We just got back from our honeymoon at Villa Buena Onda and can't express how perfect everything was. We were upgraded to an ocean view suite with the best view of the ocean. The room was spectacular and the shower also had amazing ocean views. Beds were extremely comfortable as well. The rest of the villa was like our own private hillside mansion with views from every room and a great pool! I can't say enough great things about the property.

The food was also delicious. Lots of fresh ingredients and presented beautifully on the plates. We definitely ate well while we were there. My favorites were the Coco's Poached for breakfast, the Mahi Mahi Ceviche for lunch, and the Red Snapper for dinner. My husband enjoyed the Banana Pancakes the most out of everything:) All in all, we tried almost everything and it was all delicious. Not to mention the freshest fruit and coffee we have ever had!

Last, but definitely not least, was the people and the service. Everyone who works at the Villa is so nice and accommodating. They cater to whatever you need and always do it with a smile. Luiz is the driver a the resort and he is a joy! During our daytime excursions, he was sure to point out any landmarks and also pulled over to get some fresh sugar cane for us to try. What a treat!!

Dayana was also so helpful and nice. She helped us plan our volcano, cruise and surfing excursions. She was very knowledgeable about the area and very sweet. A highlight was when she brought her dogs to the Villa. Teo and his son would play around the lobby and it was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. My favorite moment was when the little puppy took a siesta on my lap. They are the sweetest dogs and wish I could have seen them more!!!

Christian and Javier were excellent bartenders/servers. They both make an AMAZING Mojito as well as other drinks. Christian did his best to help me learn and speak Spanish (although I don't think I did very well at all.) They were great to talk to and joke around with. Both were a pleasure to get to know!

Jennifer really did it all as the manager. We helped out where ever she could and always asked us how are day was going or if we enjoyed our excursions. She also showed us one of our favorite memories from the trip as she recommended we go to watch a live band at Hermosa Beach play at night while an artist painted a portrait on the beach. It was all improvised and we felt like we were experiencing the real Costa Rica. It was amazing and all thanks to her! She also introduced us to Chili Guaro that night too:) Jennifer's dog Tika is also adorable and will be sure to greet you at the door!

Overall, this was a trip we will never forget. It is absolutely true that they treat you like a guest, not a room number. If you are looking for personal, exceptional service - this is the place! Thank you to everyone at VBO!!

I recently stayed at Villa Buena Onda and fell in love with it. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel not only welcome but totally spoiled. The property is gorgeous with amazing ocean views and the rooms are spacious with simple and elegant decor. The food was amazing and the service top notch. It was so nice to have Dayana as a personal concierge. She was attentive to any needs that we had. She organized the Hidden Private Beaches tour for us which I highly recommend. My iphone had gotten wet during our stay in the Arenal area and had been dead for several days. Dayana had someone in the town of Coco fix it for us overnight and it has been working perfectly ever since:) My son even commented that he felt like,"she would even fend off sharks for us"!
I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Buena Onda to anyone who wants to experience Costa Rica's North Pacific coast in style and comfort!

Room Tip: I took a peek at all of the rooms and they are all fabulous

We had a wonderful trip to Costa Rica organised by Costa Rica Vacations, who recommended the Villa. It is gorgeous and the staff there great. It is a boutique hotel with a very personal touch. We spent four nights there.

The food was very good but I was disappointed that the menu was the same for every dinner, the same for every lunch and the same for every breakfast. The vegetarian options were limited with limited protein content in the vegetarian options - we had notified them ahead of time that two in our party are vegetarian.

The staff were definitely amenable to our suggestions of something else......but we felt awkward asking for something else.
They did provide a black bean soup and other vegetarian soups when we asked which were great. They also provided fruit when we asked (again we would have preferred not to have to ask.....).

We hope to travel to Costa Rica again and would certainly work with CRV and stay at Villa Buena Onda again.

My suggestions here are to help make an excellent place even better

Room Tip: Upstairs is great, facing the ocean

My wife and I travelled to Costa Rica for the first time and we were blown away. We had done a combo trip (stayed near the Arenal Volcano 1st, then to the Coco Beach area). Our first leg was great, but it pales in comparison to the Villa Buena Onda. This is technically a boutique hotel, which is a nice way of saying it is small, intimate and attentive to every detail. We were greeted at arrival with a cold towel to refresh from our 3 hour drive from the Arenal area and a nice fruity beverage. We also were lucky enough to catch the tail end of lunch service, but looking back I'm sure they would have provided lunch even if we were outside the "normal" service hours. We were 1 of only 3 guests at check in and by the time we left they were getting busier, while still maintaining a standard of excellence in service. There aren't many rooms, which makes it perfect for just getting away and relaxing. The views of the Pacific Ocean are majestic. Dayana and Jennifer are always available to help and are more than accommodating to your any wish. Javier and Christian are the bartenders / waiters / spanish teachers and they are a blast. Diego prepares the breakfasts and Gabriel takes care of lunches / dinners. The food is outstanding! Javier and Christian do an impeccable job of making sure you have whatever you need, but not being on top of you. They are always around and will answer any of your questions. Dayana and Jennifer periodically check in with you to make sure there's nothing you need to make your stay more enjoyable. Dayana was kind enough to take us on a morning hike one day to show us the local trees, wildlife and neighborhoods; truly a great way to see the real Costa Rica. The hotel "mascot" would have to be Tica, a small dog who is just so friendly (we are dog people). Villa Buena Onda is the perfect place to stay if you want to unwind, relax and feel like you're living like the rich live. You are a short drive (5 min) to Coco beach and a little further to Hermosa beach. But everyone is so accommodating that you can find other places off the beaten path through recommendations. We hate to leave, but we know that when we come back to Costa Rica, we will have a place to stay!

Room Tip: All the rooms on the second floor have a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean!

My family just completed a week long visit to the Villa. 9 adults and 3 children - ages ranged from 4 yo - 75 yo. The property was perfect for this family reunion / birthday celebration vacation!

We arrived at the Villa, located atop a bumpy dirt road (don't be discouraged - many roads are this way in Costa Rica), after a brieft 25 minute drive from Liberia airport (arranged through the Villa) and were greeted by the entire staff, providing us with cold towels & signature cocktails. After a tour of the facility by Dayana & Jennifer (the Concierge & Manager), our bags were taken to our rooms & we headed right to the pool, where the staff had a light lunch/snack waiting for us. This first impression of the property was not a 1 time experience - this was the level of service we received the entire vacation.

I had a hard time believing the other reviewers when they said that the staff became like family, but after spending 7 days with them, I truly feel the same way.

First - the property - a bit to far from the town to walk with kids, but a great run early in the morning. The location was NO issue at all though, as complimentary transportation was provided daily. The entire facility was wall decorated and VERY clean. The furniture and beds were all very comfortable & ample seating indoor & out. The favorite spots were the outdoor patio by the pool, down by the pool bar & the main living room, where we gathered regularly. We did not utilize the downstairs garden bedroom.

The staff - and this is where the 5star property maintains it's 5 stars. From the lovely housekeepers (Rosa & Magdalia) to the hard working chefs (Gabriel & Diego) to our excellent bartender (Christian) and the fabulous management (Dayana & Jennifer) - ALL, every single one, was fantastic. The Costa Rican people are very family oriented and you experience this as they all welcomed our children & catered to them daily. They began to know us after just a day, and knew our patterns for meal times, pool time, happy hour,etc... They kindly waited to clean rooms until after we were out on an excursion or down by the pool - it was never an inconvenience. Anything that we needed, they would get for us - from stamps on postcards to popcorn for the kids. I would go back to the Villa because of the staff that Dayana has gathered. Our entire group was overly impressed with the staff (even the staff mascot, Tica)

The food - again, 5 star all the way. Prior to your arrival you can fill out a survey regarding food preferences & allergies. Again, the staff went out of the way to accomodate the various food allergies our group had, without compromising on quality. The food was excellent - every meal felt like eating at a nice restaurant. We opted for the premium food selection and it was well worth it. OF all the meals, we seemed to enjoy the traditional Costa Rican breakfast the best! Some examples of our dinners: Steak with Peppercorn Sauce, Seared Ahi Tuna, Shrimp with Cream Sauce, Grilled Mahi Mahi, Baked chicken with Rosemary sauce. Every dinner included either a salad or soup (the carrot soup was our favorite). And for lunch: Chicken Quesadillas, Beef Fajitas, House made cheeseburgers, Chicken Wrap sandwiches, Beef nachos. Snacks: Guacamole, House baked banana bread and chocolate bread, housemade tortillas & chips, Fresh fruit

The excursions & transportation - wait to book unti you are at the Villa (unless they advise you to book prior). Dayana knows EVERYONE in town - she knows what is a tourist trap, she knows the prices you should pay, she knows how to find excursions to accomodate all or some of your group. In addition, if there is a cancellation or something goes wrong (as it did for our guys fishing trip), she can take care of getting you refunded.
One of the BEST features of booking at the Villas is that Dayana or Jennifer will go WITH you on the excursion (at no cost to you). This helps with translation, requests, etc... She can also point out cultural or historical information for you and assist you when shopping in town. And actually what we really appreciated as well was booking the transportation with her for excursions - this ensured that the vehicle STAYED where you were - so in our case - the fishing trip - the boat broke down 30 min. into the trip - the captain called the van and the villa - so the van was there, airconditioner running and could grab the guys and bring them back (this was VERY helpful - since it was in Playa Tamarindo, over an hour away). It was also very helpful in being able to leave bags, towels, change of clothes,etc... with the van.
Excursions we chose: Golf at Westin (course was pretty banged up), Deep Sea FIshing (rebooked out of Coco), ZIp Lining at Congo Trail (super fun - even our 4 and 5 yo did it!), ATV at Congo Trail (skip it - the beach was cool, but it was basically driving on a dirt road for an hour), Visting Playa Ocotal and Coco (easy, quick trips), Sunset Dolphin cruise (our FAVORITE excursion - have Dayana book this - we had a 68 foot sail boat to ourselves - included snacks, cocktails, beers & sodas - we saw dolphins, rays, tuna & swam at a hidden beach and snorkled at coral reef - excellent for the whole family).

SHould you choose the Villa - enjoy - I'm jealous - would go back again anytime!

Room Tip: upstairs corner rooms have amazing showers & larger bathrooms. Downstairs room by kitchen is a l...
