This place truly delivered! The property was absolutely beautiful and everything we expected and more. Greg was wonderful, as he answered all of my e-mails promptly and made the entire experience of renting in another country very easy. Stef Surf looks just like the pictures on the website. It was cozy and quiet, as there are only 4 rentals available. We usually felt like we had the pool to ourselves, which was wonderful after a hot day of exploring. This is not the place to stay if you want the resort experience, but we did not. I recommend having a rental car, as there are many beaches, restaurants, and activities in the area to visit

Francisco, the caretaker of the property, is WONDERFUL! He was available for any problems/questions that we had. We absolutely loved his parakeet that lived in the vines by the front entrance. We looked for him every time we came or went (and occasionally took him inside with us) .

What we liked best was the beautiful property and tastefully decorated condo. It was very conveniently located. Also, we felt very safe, as the property has walls around it and the front gate requires a key (which you are given). We appreciated Lis coming to visit the first morning to answer questions about the area and help us set up activities. I would not hesitate to recommend Stef Surf to anyone looking for a homey, relaxing place. We can't wait to go back!

“Little Slice of Heaven”
Reviewed 2 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

I stayed at Stef Surf for 3 nights with my boyfriend and friends and enjoyed it very much! The villa (along with a couple other condos) are all together, roughly an hour away from the Liberia Airport.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Francisco, and the dogs, and felt very much at home! The condo itself was huge, with a full kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms. We stayed in the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom; the room itself was gorgeous; comfortable bed, a balcony overlooking the little bar outside our unit. There is a beach approx a 2 min walk away and fairly secluded. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place for you! There are plenty of beachs and restaurants to visit but overall this is condo rental was more for a relaxed, tranquil trip.
Small things I didn't like; the previous occupants had left a brought in a lot of fish, so the owners had to air out the fridge because it didn't smell great and made our food all smell fishy. I also wasn't a huge fan of the cloth that closed to the master bedroom bathroom.. there was no door. Aside from that, everything was great.

“Fantastic, peaceful, beautiful, we're ready to move there!”

We had such a wonderful time at Stef Surf. The condo is elegant, spacious and offers lots of privacy. We were surprised to find out the other units had people staying in them because we never heard and rarely saw anyone the whole time. The units are soundproof even with 2 toddlers staying in the adjoining condo and we never heard a peep. We found the location to be perfect to everything, very short 2 minute walk to the beach, or 10 minute drive to Flamingo for nice white sand. Its an easy drive to the monkey trail and Playa del Coco(if you have a strong heart and 4 wheel drive), and short walk to the Super Wendy, Merkdo market and local bars and restaurants. Its also only about 25 minutes or so to Tamarindo and Lagosta beach. Francisco and Marling are two of the sweetest people and I always made sure to stop and say hi to Paco the parakeet who was usually hanging out in the entry way. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back!

“Best. Vacation. Ever.”
Reviewed 29 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had heard great things about vacationing in Costa Rica. So we found Stef Surf online and made reservations there after reading all the positive reviews. However, our stay managed to exceed our greatest expectations by a long, long margin.

Stef Surf was gorgeous! We stayed in El Tucan and it was an absolutely beautiful home. The plantings within Stef Surf and the arrangement of the homes along the walkway around the pool creates a magical little oasis to enjoy every time you return. Francisco and Marling (who run the place) made our stay so comfortable. They were always there with a warm greeting and available to help anytime we needed something. Lis gave us great tips on where to go, arranged four massages for us in one morning (on short notice) and even drove with us to show us a closer ATM. We spent most mornings sipping fabulous Costa Rican coffee on the deck off the master bedroom while we planned our day - a perfect start!

We had so many great adventures while we were there. We loved Playa Danta and returned there twice during our weeklong stay. We ate fresh snapper right on the beach in Playa Conchal - perfect snorkeling there too! We surfed on Playa Grande. One day we had a surf lesson set up through Matos Surf Shop (great people - great shop) and the next day we rented boards from Matos again and surfed like we knew what we were doing (I don't think we fooled anyone). We saw dolphins on Grande and monkeys at Danta. And we watched two amazing sunsets on Playa Potrero (just a block away from Stef Surf).

The food was incredible! There are supermarkets extremely close to Stef Surf, so we could get essentials when we needed them like coffee, wine, beer and Pozuelo cookies (to which we are now addicted). We had a couple great breakfasts at The Shack and even went back there to hear a band on Thursday night. It was a wild time. We had dinner at Las Brisas so many times it was embarrassing so we forced ourselves to try a couple other places for the sake of adventure. So glad we did because Friday night is ribs night at La Perla (around the corner a bit from Stef Surf) and it was, without a doubt, the best rib meal we've ever had. Of course, we topped it off with a homemade lime cheesecake that words just can't describe.

We were thinking Europe next year, but all the way home we talked about getting a few families together to rent all the homes at Stef Surf instead. Who knows? It was truly a wonderful trip. We will be back for sure.

“Trip of a lifetime!”
Reviewed 22 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We had the most amazing experience in Costa Rica. Greg & Gladys were the most helpful and charming hosts we could have imagined. We rented a car and used Greg & Gladys' directions to arrive to Stef Surf. It took some getting used to at first, which was more than adequately explained beforehand, but the roads aren't always the most clearly marked. Looking for signs that point towards beaches ended up being the most helpful for us.

Once we arrived Francisco showed us around the house we stayed in. The house is perfect, climate controlled, clean and all the amenities you would need are included. The pool within the complex was very refreshing when we needed to take a break from the sun. The wi-fi worked great and the phone they provided was perfect when we needed to contact our airline.

There is plenty to do within walking distance. If we were only staying for a few days we probably wouldn't have even needed a vehicle but we got exhausted after a couple of days and driving definitely helped maximize the experience. The beaches are beautiful and quiet. All of the ones within walking distance were extremely clean and relatively unoccupied. It wasn't uncommon most days to walk around and be the only two people walking on the beach. Definitely make a point to explore all of them that Greg & Gladys suggest once you arrive.

We went to the three grocery stores within walking distance, bought food when we needed it or got things to drink when we didn't feel like going out. The restaurants nearby are very good so if you don't mind spending the money make a point to visit them. The Shack had the best breakfast on the trip. The owner was very nice and helpful. Buena Vista Beach Restaurant was a great place to grab cocktails by their swim up bar. Try the guaro sour - you can't get it in the States and it's unbelievably good.

We had pizza at Marco Polo and Casa Celeste. Casa Celeste had amazing pizza. It was good at both places but Celeste was incredible. Maxwell’s is another great place that is worth eating at. The patty melt and cheeseburger's were fantastic.

You really can't go wrong with anything Greg and Gladys suggest - they will give you an unbiased opinion on what's good and what's worth eating/doing. They have really good relationships with all the local business owners in surf side too so please name drop. It will help. Greg and Gladys also managed to arrange the best and most affordable pedicure we've ever had. I'm not sure if you'll always be able to get this, but if you can, DO IT! If that wasn't nice enough they have connections at the Tabacon which we stayed at for two nights at the end of our vacation. One call and they got us upgraded to a luxury suite.

We haven't stopped talking about, thinking about, dreaming about Costa Rica since we got home. It was the vacation of a lifetime. Greg and Gladys are the perfect people to help enhance it and make sure you get the most of it. I wouldn't change a thing about our trip.

“Exactly what we wanted, exactly what we expected and exactly what we like!!”
Reviewed 3 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

It is always difficult to recommend a property because everyone's tastes are so different. If you looking for a resort style location, this may not be it...however, if you are looking for 5 star accommodations, peace and quiet and great local flavor, this might be exactly it!

The grounds of this rental are absolutely stunning, lush, the pool and hot tub exactly as shown, with your balconies overlooking the pool area. Really perfect.
The condos/villas (not sure how to classify them) are extremely well kept and have everything you could ask for. Lots of privacy if you want it. Chance to visit at the pool if you want to too.
Much thanks to Marling and Francisco for their attentiveness and kindness.
Thanks also to Gladys and Greg for all of the information about where to go and where to eat...they're recommendations are bang on. They are a wealth of information...
We tend to avoid crowds while on vacation but do enjoy eating suppers out and exploring the neighborhood. We were at Stef Surf for almost two weeks and enjoyed eating out at different local restaurants every night except one, when we ate in and barbecued shrimp. Every meal was good, some excellent, and all reasonably priced. We spent far less than budgeted and didn't scrimp on wine and drinks...and never for a minute missed having a car.
We bought breakfast supplies and snacks at the local "Supers'..including eggs, fresh bread, cheeses, fruits and vegetables. (avocados, bananas... There is a great local fruit and vegetable stand just outside of town.) We were able to walk to several beaches where we were staying, if you wanted to drive, the options would be unlimited.
Margaritas and fish at La Brisas, burgers at Maxwell's, (custom made just for us...absolutely lovely....) chimmichangas at the Shack, Sunsets at the Beach house. We walked for hours everyday...
Came back feeling refreshed and relaxed.
A great place, great people, perfect.

“great vacation”
Reviewed 25 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed in El Delfin at Stef Surf with our two kids (11 & 14) along with friends (who stayed in a separate unit at the same complex). Stef Surf is wonderful! The units are more than what you need for a comfortable stay, the pool and surrounding lanscaping is beautiful, the location is ideal (with many beaches and restaurants nearby) and Greg & Gladys are great hosts. We felt like we had personal vacation consultants onsite to provide recommendations as to where to go, what to see, where to eat, etc. We couldn't have asked for a better trip! On top of that, the staff at Stef Surf are super nice people. Francisco and Marling were an added bonus that we had not expected. We highly recommend staying there and hope to come back soon!
