The open air second floor restaurant set in a quiet wooded neighborhood makes for a perfect romantic setting with picturesque views and the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. Our two dinners we had at Cantarana were simply the best food we had during our 10 days in Costa Rica. Fresh seafood, local ingredients and a terrific staff made for a perfect end to our evenings. The owners Marko & Sabine are some of the nicest people you will find and are very attentive and helpful. They are also fluent in English, German and Spanish. We can't wait to return!

Fresh local fruits in the morning and dinners have a nice setting with outdoor dinning! Try the great seafood.

We enjoyed several dinners here during our stay and found the food to be delicious and the staff friendly and welcoming. The chef is inventive with fresh local ingredients. Seafood and contemporary versions of local cuisine are present on the menu (and daily specials). The restaurant is beautiful (open air on the 2nd floor) and the atmosphere is cozy and romantic. You do pay a little more here but in my experience, eating out in Costa Rica is not inexpensive. Beachside restaurants can often be boisterous and rowdy with mediocre food. The Cantarana is a wonderful alternative to that.

After a long day of excursions, my friends and I stopped in to the Cantarana Restaurant for dinner last night for what ended up being our best meal out on this vacation. Offering fresh specials of the day, we dined on Octopus salad, sweet and sour beef, seafood soup and delicious carrot cake for dessert. A healthy menu and a very reasonable price. A little more upscale than the other local restaurants in our area, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food presented to us. Owned by a lovely Canadian couple, we were delighted to find familiar fare on the menu and to have service in English an option. Thanks to Marco and his wife; our server Debbie from Cranbrook, B.C., and the amazing Costa Rican chef for his creations! We will see you next year...and will bring some celery salt ;)

We went as a family and the food and drinks were not good! The wine was really bad and we are not that picky with wine. The food was bland with no real flavors. Best thing we had was our kids pasta with butter and cheese
