Hermosa Heights Villas

Having wondered upon this place a few years ago, we were happy to return to Costa Rica and see that it was just as charming as ever. The staff went above and beyond! They were über friendly and helpful as we had not spent much time in the Hermosa / Coco area in several years. It is hard to believe how the area has changed in just a few short years. Our kids loved the putt putt course and must have played it 15 or 20 times while we were there. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The toiletries could use some upgrade to fit in with the 4 star quality service that the place delivers.

We will definitely be back in the future.

Room Tip: If you don't like noise from the pool, ask for a villa a bit higher up the hillside. I can see h...

We stayed here at end of November, with another couple, before the busy season. Our villa was very comfortable and had all that we coiuld desire for a holiday stay. The villa sleeps five. The master bedroom is very spacious with its own spacious bathroom. The second bedroom is much smaller with a single bunk above the double bed - so a little more cramped for second couple. But they had their own bathroom as well. The kitchen and living room area are well furnished including large flat screen TV. The kitchen has everything - all necessary appliances including dishwasher and washer dryer. Good internet access. also a good size deck with chairs and table - perfect for breakfast outside and for happy hour relaxing.

The nice sized pool was right across the road - with a small restaraunt attached. At the hotel there is a small movie theatre (showing late run movies) that serves the town, a spa, a mini-golf, pool tables and other amenities. Also an ATM in front of the hotel. The food in the main restaraunt is OK but not great.

It is a one block walk to a market that sells everything you may need, at reasonable prices for a tourist town. The beach is further away - a long walk or short car ride, but with the pool we didn't go to the beach as much ( a car is not absolutely necessay to enjoy your stay but you will be limited in what you see..)

A great base for exploring Playa Hermosa and surrounding area - with a car.

The villas were a nice size , good for a small family. The staff was friendly, about a 10-15 min drive to any beach. If you are looking for wifi internet in your villas you might not be able to pick up the signal.. The only thing we found weird was when you check in/out there this long inventory check list that you have to fill out with one of the staff members when you check in and out. Other than that everything else was good.

Room Tip: if you need to use wifi try to ask for a room that has good signal.

We stayed at Hermosa Heights for two nights, and it really was an amazing value. We received a $90/night special through trip advisor. For that we got a two bedroom, two bath condo with air conditioning, flat screen, table TV, a fully equipped kitchen, even laundry, located right above a beautiful swimming pool with two slides. They even have mini-golf, which we enjoyed briefly before the heat just got too much and we went back in the pool. (It really is a great pool).

We had been to Hermosa Beach about a month earlier and happened upon the poolside restaurant for lunch while on a walk of the area. During that lunch my kids were charmed not only by the beautiful pool, but by the darling orphan monkey Mona who visited and is obviously loved by the staff. When we planned to come back to the beach they begged us to go for a stay.

It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach, not bad. There's a great Grocery store down the main road just a few minutes walk to the North. One bit of warning, there are no cabs in the area, if you call one the come from Coco Beach and charge you for that. I don't know the town well enough to walk with the kids there at night. We had joined friends at a beach front restaurant at El Velero hotel and one of the waiters drove us back to Hermosa Heights after we ate! Amazing! Benefits of a small town.

We highly recommend Hermosa Beach. It's a beautiful cove, perfect for swimming in the warm surf or walking along the shaded path. We also did a three hour snorkeling trip with four adults and four kids for only $150.

We had dinner our first night at the Hermosa Heights complex Sports Bar, which was good but very "American"ized, which is kind of funny. There are a handful of businesses in Hermosa obviously trying to cater to the American retiree or condo buyer. Not normally our scene but when we were there the only other guests were a huge family reunion of Costa Ricans. A fun and friendly group.

The Hermosa Heights poolside restaurant was our favorite, breakfast and lunch are both great there and the staff are not overly-smiley or anything, but are very attentive and happy to address special requests such as serving our kids breakfast at the swim up bar.

And Monkey Mona visited again on our last morning!

It's a bit of a shame not to stay down on the Beach when in Hermosa, but the comfort and conveniences of the condos were fantastic. I recommend it highly.

I was very pleased with the Villas Sol Hotel and Beach Resort staff from the courtesy provided by all staff, the excellent security, the food at the restaurant along with the different themes each night , the host and waiters/waitress attentiveness, and best of all the outstanding services received from the Activist Entertainment Group. Early in my stay at Villas Sol Hotel and Beach Resort, I met Daniel Maurique, Director of Activities and Entertainment who informed me of all the activities taking place on site. I adjust my schedule to participate in the some activities and it truly enriched my vacation experience. If it was not for the activities, knowledge, direction provided to me by Daniel and his staff, I do not think I would have enjoyed my stay as much. I owe much gratitude to Daniel and Staff because I enjoyed having the opportunity to experience fun a Villas Sol while participating in fun, enjoyable, and relaxing activities.

Hotel Villas Hermosa Heights are the perfect place to stay in the little piece of paradise that is Playa Hermosa! Friends from Washington DC told us about these villas and they are truly gems. We walked right out our door to enjoy the pool (with bar/restaurant); to our left we had the mini-golf then the movie theater and the spa and gym. We watched soccer at the sports bar, but spent most of our time exploring or relaxing on the beach. The beach is breathtaking especially at sundown. It is only a short walk to the beach and make sure you stop to see the monkeys on your way. In addition, the competent and friendly staff made everything so easy and carefree.

We recently stayed at Villas Hermosa Heights as a group of 40+ people that included about 30 people who worked together and about 12 family members all traveling together. We pretty much took over the place occupying all of the 2-bedroom and a couple of the 3-bedroom villas. In general, our group really enjoyed their stay at the villas. The villas themselves were very tastefully decorated and included a kitchen and washer/dryer (which was key since it poured 2 days we were there!) Most of our group commented that they were new, clean and exceeded people's expectations. People liked the layout and thought the air conditioning worked very well (also key). Personally, I woke up the first morning and saw a monkey on our balcony, which my 2 year old loved.

One thing that you may need to consider are that in many of the villas the second bedrooms are smaller and darker than the master bedroom. If you are traveling with children, this will not be a problem, but if you are two couples in the 2-bedroom villa, one couple is going to feel like they are in the kiddie room. Also, these are more like renting private homes than staying at a hotel. For example, housekeeping was inconsistent for our group. I was staying in a villa with 5 people, but we never received more than 4 bath towels. On the 2nd morning we got a bar of soap for the 1st time. One villa had no shower curtain. Water pressure was a little bit of an issue in a few villas. Because there are no phones in the villas, if you need something, you will have to walk down to the office to request it.

One other thing to note is that only some of the villas have wireless access. There was wireless access at the Ranchita Restaurant by the pool for us. If you need wireless, you may need to confirm that you will have it in advance.

Finally, the pools are awesome with waterslides and a swim up bar. Most of our group really liked the food served at the Ranchita. There is also a playground on site and putt-putt golf. The beach is a 10 minute walk and the villas are close to a few other restaurants and a grocery store. In general, Playa Hermosa is a smaller little beach town and there is not a lot of nightlife. If you need nightlife, this may not be the beast place for you. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay especially if you want to stay at more of a beach house than a hotel.
