The Condovac is a located right above a very beautiful beach. My wife and I upgraded are place from a one bedroom to a two bedroom place for our 30th wedding anniversary. The location of the two bedroom rooms have a much nicer view from our upstair master bedroom than the one bedroom rooms. It was well worth it to us to wake up with this beautiful view from our bedroom. The grounds of the Condovac are very well maintain and the staff are all very friendly. If you do not speak spanish most of the staff speak english but not all. But this is what we love about this place, most of the people staying here are from Costa Rica and speak little english. My wife loves this so she can practice her spanish. The food at the restaurant is overprice and not all that great, but has a great view with a wonderful staff that are so friendly and helpful. There are plenty of places to eat right on the beach. You can walk to the beach or take a golf cart that runs every 15min. On the beach are beach lounge chairs for you to use but are chain down so you can not move them. All are under trees and shade. We new this so we pack folding beach chairs with us from California so we can bring them to other beaches and lay in the sun. The bar was a fun place to hang out and meet people from Costa Rica and find out places to explore. The bartenders were fun and made sure we were part of the conversations at the bar even though not much english was spoken which was fine with us. While on the beach we met all sorts of tour guides and were very happy we met Herson, he was like a long lost friend. He can be trusted and knows all the different tours to go on. He will take you in his car and go with you, which is great since the roads are not mark very well and the places we went would have been hard to find. He is on the phone finding out were other tours are and made sure we were not there with the crowds. We went on a day trip that started out with a short hike to a waterfall, then a horseback ride to a starting place for another hike in the mountains to more waterfalls and hanging bridges. After that we went out for lunch were he call ahead of time and they were waiting for us. Then off to zip lining. Ended the day at a volcano were we took mud baths and soak in the hot springs. He also got us on a sunset tour which was amazing and only two other couples were onboard with us. This was a brand new catormoran which on high season takes out as many as 75 people. On that tour we went snorkeling, watch turtles mating , whales breaching, and much more. They cook us chicken , guacamole, and they always had a cold drink in your hand. So if you are on the beach ask for Herson and he will take good care of you , everyone on the beach knows everyone. Last but not least make sure you get a massage on the beach. There are a few places but make sure you go with the two ladies on the beach under the trees behind the lounge chairs, not the one from the hotel. These women are amazing and all fro $20 an hr. Yes you heard me right $20, they speak little english but you will have no problems communicating with them. They are very professional and well trained. We had three massages while we were there and with tip $60 for the both of us. The best deal in Costa Rica.

Room Tip: The rooms for RCI are on the lowest level and are all upgraded. Easy walking to the beach but no vie...

Clean beach, nice place to stay. The service could be better. The food in the restaurant by pool wasn't as good as the price i payed. The equipment for the canopy was a complete embarrassment. Seriously it smelled horrible and dusty. For the price im paying i would have expected more. Over all i had a good time just some minor details.

I was unsure how this hotel would be due to some mixes reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. We stayed on the 400 section in a 2 bedroom. Had a great view from the balcony o the water. Everyone spoke some English so we did not have any problems with communication. The pools were very clean and the room had maid service everyday. There are not a lot of activities going o. So if you are looking for that this is not the place to go but that did not matter to us as we planned day trips with Mardigi Tours everyday. The only thing that I can say we were not thrilled with was the food at the restaurant. We ate there twice and then walked sown the beach to a few other places. Roberto's was excellent! Highly recommend trying them.
I would stay here again.

We were gifted RCI points, so anything free cannot be all that complained about. That being said, we had read reviews on the hotel and knew more or less what to expect. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. We were showed what our RCI points would have given us- a standard room-and then upgraded us to a 2 story suite with a view, close to the pools and central area simply because they could and they were open. The place was very clean although a little outdated, it was perfectly fine for a few nights stay. I only say outdated because the toilet overflowed once and you could tell that it happens often. It flowed out and down the stairs, through the ceiling, etc all within a matter on minutes. Maintenance was slow in coming, so after a 20 minute wait, we left and went to the pool and arrived back a few hours later and it was all cleaned up.
The Hotel does sit on the side of an a pretty steep hill, as other reviews have mentioned. So bring along some good flip flops and a bottle of gatorade to hoof it to the top! Everything you want, the pool and restaurant, are at the top. There is a shuttle that circulates often, but we always seemed to miss it and we didn't mind the opportunity to burn a few calories.
The beach in front of the Hotel is pretty grungy and somewhat of a tourist trap. There are at least 5 or 6 guys ready to hassle you and offer you a special price to do any number of day trips and water sport activities. They don't take no for an answer easily. Last but not least, be prepared to speak a little Espanol. A few of the staff made an effort but mostly it appears to be a place that caters to and host a lot of Spanish speaking guest. We are bilingual, so it wasn't a problem, but something to keep in mind. All in all it was a middle of the road experience. Not bad, but not a place we would jump on the opportunity to return to.

We knew that this was NOT a five star resort but thought it was going to be decent. We were on our honeymoon and booked through RCI. The girl gave us room 519 saying it was a great room and was 'renovated.'

My review is a little long but I hope it will help someone else not make the same mistake we did.

Room: it smelled when we walked in, housekeeping sprayed something it helped but the only way to keep the place not smelling like mildew was to keep the window open all day. The couch was stained and the closet smelled so bad I wouldn't hang my clothes in it. The bed was awful. Also, housekeeping could not give us the same number of towels everyday, yet they did inventory. They also charged us for use of the safe.

Pool area: The jacuzzi was broken as in cold, yet people were sitting in it anyway. There are no umbrellas, the chairs were uncomfortable and the pool bar was closed all week. As others have said the chairs are chained...not sure who would want them or where you would drag them to.

Location: if you don't have a car you are stranded. We would not rent one because the driving is pretty dangerous. So instead we spent $30 a day going back and forth to Coco Beach to eat. It's also $30 round trip anywhere in Playa Hermosa since the cab has to come from Coco.

Restaurant: We arrived late Saturday night. We decided to just go up to the restaurant. The choice was buffet or pizza. We got a pizza and it was AWFUL. We never ate there again.

Beach: don't bother going down. We went down there first day, the chairs are dirty and under palm trees and chained up. Also, all the tour sales people are down there bothering you. And the restaurant/bar was closed down there.

We figured out after a few hours that the place was so awful so we booked ourselves up with tours. Which is fine but we went there to relax.

All the little things added up: waiting for 20 minutes for the shuttle because it was always full, the smell of the room, uncleanliness, charging for the use of the room safe, taking cabs, and not being able to relax.

My favorite though was finding out another couple got a bottle of wine and cheese plate for their honeymoon. SO when we checked out I was done holding my mouth and said something the guy said, "well we didn't know." Yet when we checked in the girl goes your on your honeymoon congratulations. She was standing right there.

Not sure why no one from RCI invited us to the owners breakfast knowing we just got married and are ideal candidates to buy.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.

My family spent a week here in June and had a good experience. The pool area and other accommodations were very nice. When we needed a shuttle to go up or down the big hill it wasn't a long wait. We loved the rooms and the staff were very helpful. The proximity to the beach and level of security were very nice.

The food was excellent and the location was super. The pools, staff, bar, and restaurant were in great locations and open air. My wife and I had a very satisfying time there and traveling to Coco Beach, Panama Beach, and Ocotal Beach.
Very nice place to spend a week.

Room Tip: In my opinion, any unit would be just fine.
