“Best vacation ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2014

My friend and I went here in the middle of December. It was the best vacation ever!!!! The staff really made the trip. They are so nice and friendly and took care of us so well. Even getting us drinks when we didn't order them :) The resort is amazing and relaxing. I spent so many hours floating in the pool looking over Costa Rica. I came back feeling so relaxed.

Definitely go down to the beach! We had massages on 2 days for only $20 each. We ziplined and did river rafting through the Agency at the resort. Both were great trips.

The atmosphere is great. We met so many nice families and couples and you get to know them well since it is all-inclusive. We will definitely go back!

Room Tip: If you stay at the Hotel, you are really close to all ammenities. The rooms are really nice too and...

All I can say is they try to please you, but just don't get it quite right. Some people staying there really liked it, but I guess I'm just spoiled to luxurious resorts. I don't know if it's the language barrier or what. All I know is a lot of people in Costa Rica don't speak English. Not even Poquito. The one's that do speak some English, are very lovely though. Gilbert (I believe he's a concierge) was a sweetheart though, and he should run the place, if you ask me. He spoke the most English out of any of the staff I talked to. The food is horrible, except for the restaurant up from the main pool. If you stay in the hotel (which most people doing the timeshare presentation stay), you only get to go there once free. If you want to go to it every evening (or the evenings it is open), then you have to pay about $30/meal, I believe. In the morning when you go to have some breakfast at the buffet, it was like pulling teeth just to get a refill on coffee. I had to get up several times just to get more coffee. Birds are real bad about flying in and getting food or sugar packets off the table also, so beware, don't leave your food unattended or not covered up on your table. I enjoyed the water aerobics and water volleyball at the main pool. That was fun. I do not care for the villas either. Not very attractive to me. We kept asking for a TV that worked with a remote (ours was broken), and a clock, but never got it. We were never given more coffee packets in our room each day so we could have coffee in the room. Only had coffee in there when we arrived. You have to pay $5-10 a person to go to Coco Beach. You can actually go down there and get American food or better food. We actually ate down there a few nights, because we couldn't stand the food. When I went to the timeshare presentation, they were real nice. If you don't buy though, things change. Not so nice anymore. I think they should treat customers the same, whether they buy or not. That way they might get better reviews. I'm sorry though, this is only like a 1 or 2 star resort. It seems very low-class to me. Nothing there stood out to me as being great. I will not be going back.

Room Tip: If you have to stay in the hotel, ask for a room on the top floor. I would suggest staying in the v...

Wonderful, secluded location right on the ocean shore, very clean premises with small and nice pool, clean and big rooms with generously sized bath tabs, helpful staff, small and cozy restaurant serving good by Costa Rican standards breakfast. The location is also very convenient as a start point for daily trips and excursions to elsewhere in surroundings. Better location than nearby Jaco Beach for sure.

My family of 4 stayed at Villa Sol for one week in late December 2013. Our 2 bedroom villa was spacious and clean with a spectacular view. We sat on the patio in the early monrings and watched the monkeys in the trees. All the staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and accomodating. Gilbert, the excursions desk expert, was the most helpful. We took a day trip to Nicaragua, went white water rafting, zip lining, horse back riding, rode ATVs and went on a sunset snorkelling cruise. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Our stay here was great!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a villa and didn't check out the standard rooms.

We went to the hotel for new years eve and since we got there, there were nothing but inconformities. First thing, we asked for a size King bed in our reservation, and we got 2 full beds, when we talked to the person in charge they tolds us they 'did not have any emails from us', which is ironic, because we had a response saying they were gonna give us a size King bed. They used as an excuse that because of the holidays they were full capacity and it seemed that we were asking for too much.
No free wifi; if you want to enjoy the Restaurant Heliconias you have to make a reservation at 7am the same day hoping they aren't full because they only have the capacity for 20 pax at night, as we were told.....not even a change of plans considering the hotel was full capacity because of the holidays season. Come on, I went to ask 3 mornings in a row.
On monday, it was BBQ night and the meat was totally burned. Black, pure charcoal black 'meat'. We could not eat that. On Tuesday, they were giving us fried eggs that still needed cooking! Wednesday at lunch, they didn't had any desserts to begin with! If you wish for a complete all inclusive experience, this is not the hotel for you. The buffet is sooo small and the food terrible. The only good meal we had was for new year's eve dinner. At least.
The only good thing: they have the greatest bartenders! They are funny, helpful and really smart, they give you the full service there! You were never thirsty with those guys!

The resort was comfortable, clean and well run. We appreciated the meals as they offered a good variety of healthy choices that were well presented and enjoyable. The hotel could improve by providing coffee and drinks in the rooms. The tours offer through the hotel were on the high end of prices offered off site, so would advise doing some research before booking through the hotel.

Room Tip: Villas over the main hotel are quieter and typically have better views of the bay.
