“Paradise at la Gaviota Tropical”

At La Gaviota Tropical we had the best vacation. It was our first visit to Costa Rica and will not be our last. The staff, owners (Dawson and Bette from Frederick, Maryland) and family made us feel welcome daily. The place was very nicely decorated, it was new, very clean and comfortable. We were always served delicious meals on the first floor: Roberto's restaurant. Roberto and his wife always made sure we were pleased with our meals. The waiters went out of their way to give us the best service. One evening, after fishing, the kitchen staff offered to cook our fish that we caught any style. It was delicious! The choices of drinks were many and very refreshing.
Dawson and Bette were happy to recommend the different places to visit and different adventures to experience daily. We very much enjoyed Adolfo's snorkeling in the ocean. He was great at showing us all the amazing sea creatures and picked us up with his boat on our beach. Another tour on the Verde River with Rory included white-faced monkeys, crocodiles and iguanas. We enjoyed a delicious typical lunch and a Tico pottery demonstration. Those adventures were a few of many. Everything we saw was very enjoyable and amazing. It was very convenient because one could meet the tour guides at La Gaviota.
The ocean is in the backyard of the guest house! One could eat in the restaurant while looking at the beautiful ocean, listening to the waves and later watching the breathtaking sunset. One could just walk out the back and spend all day relaxing by the ocean water and swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding. The swimming pool was located in the 4th floor. The pool was on the top floor and one could enjoy a cool dip while watching the sunset in the evenings also. Every floor had a place to sit and a beautiful view. Our room had a private balcony that allowed us to view the ocean and enjoy the breeze of the day. We were staying in the third floor which allowed us to see every day an iguana on the top of a tree! Our family was able to relax and enjoy the beauty of this place.
Every evening when we came back to La Gaviota we were always pleasantly surprised to find a very clean room with plenty of towels, beds made and all the necessary amenities. The area is safe, close to supermarkets, small stores and restaurants. Parking is also available if one chooses to rent a car. We are hoping to go back and stay at La Gaviota again. We have great memories thanks to their hospitality and attention of every detail.

We stayed at this bed & breakfast for two nights, at the beginning of our 9 day tour of Costa Rica. It is a very peaceful B&B, and is right on the beach. The beach itself was not my favorite while in Costa Rica, but that's okay - because i was in Costa Rica. Everything was Pura Vida!! The rooms were whimsical. When we first got in the room it was so hot, but once we turned on the air conditioner - we were fine. Although, the bathroom can get a little hot - no air circulating. The beds were hard, so it was a little uncomfortable sleeping. But I prefer my beds really soft. So it may not be an issue for most people. We stayed in the bird room. It should be noted, this room didn't really have a view of the ocean. If you stick our head out of the balcony - you can see the ocean. The rooftop pool/deck is where we hung out, instead of swimming on the beach. It was wonderful. I highly recommend staying here - especially b/c of Roberto's and the breakfast that is included.

my boyfriend and i were travelling down the guanacaste coast when we decided to stay one or two nights at playa hermosa. because we haven't booked any hotel we decided to just follow one of the hotel signs. we never expected to find such a beautiful and peaceful place like the graviota tropical. Sila and Robert welcomed us very friendly. the room was very gorgeous! all the decor was lovely and made us feel very comfy. secret tip: the food in Roberto's is just delicious!!! unfortunately we hadn't the chance to stay one more night. but thank you for the unforgetable shortstay!!

Wow, what a great property. We stayed one night and didn't want to leave. The rooms were immaculate and the host was awesome. Don’t forget to try the restaurant “Roberto’s”, the service and staff is the best and the menu is delicious. They make you feel right at home.

The B&B Owners Bette & Dawson were wonderful. They have a top quality B&B. Bette arranged 3 fantastic outings for our group of 10 people. The restaurant Owner Roberto and his staff were very friendly & efficient and provided excellent meals at reasonable prices. The coffee and breakfast was complimentary. Each morning we would be served fresh fruit and juices along with a typical Costa Rican breakfast.
There is no spa but Bette has a local masseuse schedule appointments.

Room Tip: We saw all the rooms. Each had a unique quality which provided you with several options depending o...

We truly enjoyed our time at Roberto's and La Gaviota Tropical. We spent 3 nights but easily could have stayed longer. The restaurant food was excellent and well priced. The service was outstanding and appropriately paced for a leasurely day at the beach. The rooms were beautiful with all of the amenities needed. We stayed in the Guanacastle room with bunk beds and our son loved it. Each morning we joined the stream of runners and walkers on the beach and then enjoyed a wonderful breakfast- coffee, smoothies, fresh fruit and a different daily breakfast dish. The roof deck pool was refreshing and was amazing for sunsets. The hotel has beach chairs and children's toys available for use. The drink prices (especially at happy hour) we excellent. There is snorkeling and kayaking off the beach as well. there were several other restaurants within walking distance. We will be back!

We escaped a cold, blustery week in February at La Gaviota and we are making plans to return next year with a group of friends. The owners Bette and Dawson greeted us and gave us referrals for restaurants and great adventures to zip line and the exciting river cruise. The ambience at the restaurant Roberto's, set the tone for the whole week. The food was delicious and the staff competent and friendly. Luis, Johnny and Tigre will call you by name and remember your personal drink orders. Everything is clean and well maintained. Roberto and Sila are pleasant and organized and manage the hotel and restaurant with positive energy. The community of Playa Hermosa is family oriented and beautiful. We circled the bay area for a couple of hours and enjoyed seeing the white sand beaches and local caves. Most nights we could be found at the roof top pool watching the sunset with our favorite beverage. I was lucky enough to have Carmen gives me two fabulous massage sessions. Book your trip today if you want to enjoy the hospitality of this quiet hotel and take advantage of all that Costa Rica has to offer.

Room Tip: All the rooms have beautiful décor and are very comfortable.
