At La Gaviota Tropical we had the best vacation. It was our first visit to Costa Rica and will not be our last. The staff, owners (Dawson and Bette from Frederick, Maryland) and family made us feel welcome daily. The place was very nicely decorated, it was new, very clean and comfortable. We were always served delicious meals on the first floor: Roberto's restaurant. Roberto and his wife always made sure we were pleased with our meals. The waiters went out of their way to give us the best service. One evening, after fishing, the kitchen staff offered to cook our fish that we caught any style. It was delicious! The choices of drinks were many and very refreshing.
Dawson and Bette were happy to recommend the different places to visit and different adventures to experience daily. We very much enjoyed Adolfo's snorkeling in the ocean. He was great at showing us all the amazing sea creatures and picked us up with his boat on our beach. Another tour on the Verde River with Rory included white-faced monkeys, crocodiles and iguanas. We enjoyed a delicious typical lunch and a Tico pottery demonstration. Those adventures were a few of many. Everything we saw was very enjoyable and amazing. It was very convenient because one could meet the tour guides at La Gaviota.
The ocean is in the backyard of the guest house! One could eat in the restaurant while looking at the beautiful ocean, listening to the waves and later watching the breathtaking sunset. One could just walk out the back and spend all day relaxing by the ocean water and swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding. The swimming pool was located in the 4th floor. The pool was on the top floor and one could enjoy a cool dip while watching the sunset in the evenings also. Every floor had a place to sit and a beautiful view. Our room had a private balcony that allowed us to view the ocean and enjoy the breeze of the day. We were staying in the third floor which allowed us to see every day an iguana on the top of a tree! Our family was able to relax and enjoy the beauty of this place.
Every evening when we came back to La Gaviota we were always pleasantly surprised to find a very clean room with plenty of towels, beds made and all the necessary amenities. The area is safe, close to supermarkets, small stores and restaurants. Parking is also available if one chooses to rent a car. We are hoping to go back and stay at La Gaviota again. We have great memories thanks to their hospitality and attention of every detail.
