That's right. Of all the beaches I've been on, this one is definitely one I'd go back to in a heartbeat. I find it fun but at the same time peaceful, sandy and at the same time rocky (for snorkeling there are some good spots on either sides of the bay).
The overall atmosphere is laid back and colorful, clean and simple.
Several restaurants, beach-bars and hotels crown the surroundings without disturbing its flare of a bygone era, in which you find yourself thrown back in time like in the sixties and seventies, enjoying live music on the beach around a bonfire, sharing a drink and a chat with some local expat-characters looking much like out of a pirate movie...
The water is rather warm and calm, or with nice waves you can play with until dark. There are several aquatic activities you may enjoy, including "Sunset Cruising" on a sailboat owned by a local joint. Jogging along the sands or going on a "walkabout" around the rocky corners of the bay is also something we enjoyed doing while there. The ocean leaves some pretty spots and natural pools on low tides on those volcanic formations...
The sunsets are awesome, especially if you go on a hike on those heights behind Villa Sol Resort, you're going to be rewarded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Papagayo and Guanacaste, if not in Costa Rica.

The good features of the beach is how easy it is to walk. I have notice people calling this white sand but it leaves black residue on your skin. It is not white like the panhandle of Florida for example. The beach is perhaps a km long with rock shores on each end. There was a disk jockey blasting each day with various activities going in the middle of the beach but it got quiet after dark. The tree shaded area along the beach often had trash and needed upkeep. There was often trash burning near the camping area. The chaos of the parking area was a task to walk through. Though we did see a howler hanging out in the parking area.
It was a likable beach but we do not think we will return. Beautiful to look at from La Finisterra.

This beach is really nice. It's smaller than coco beach but more private. The sand is really nice and the beach is very clean

Quiet. Clean. Calm sea. Dark-gray volcanic sand. Good for strolling. Perfect for watching the sunset.

I liked the calmness but I disliked the municipality's messiness. Good streets but it looks like many areas are untouched and ugly.
