“Flying Crocodile Gyrocopter Ride (of a Life Time!)”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

Just returned from a wonderful vacation in Samara . This was our second trip to Samara - having taken our adult children there in 2011. On the top of my list of things to do and see was taking a Gyrocopter ride over the beautiful beaches. Let me summarize by saying anyone who goes to Samara and does not go for one of the Flying Crocodile rides will not only be missing the ride of their life but also the seeing some of the most beautiful beaches and country in the world - viewed from the air the crystal clear water exposes every reef, turtle, ray and fish bringing a real appreciation for the beauty and nature of the area. Unlike here in the US gyrocopters in Costa Rica can fly at tree top levels and can literally skim the waves then soar to thousand foot. The folks at the Flying Crocodile are experienced German commercial pilots and the grocopters (also made in Germany) are the most safe thing flying while offering about as close as you'll get to the feeling of flying.

If there is a down side its for Gringo tourist not use to Costa Rica roads and travel is getting to the Hotel Flying Crocodile / landing strip from Samara as the most direct route is via dirt road and river crossing - so take a cab locals drive these roads year round. Cost about $100 for 20 minute flight which covers four or five beaches including Mel Gibson house. They also do longer flights - can only imagine.

Can't say enough about the flight other than our traveling companions after seeing the photos all say next year its the top of their list too.

“so chilled and beautiful”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

Samara beach is lovely. Its authentic, chilled and safe. the beach is clean and the water warm, with lovely gentle waves, perfect for bodyboarding, beginer surfing and swimming. The beach was not very busy and there is plenty shaded areas. I would say it was a great spot to take a young family, we were a couple and loved the chilled out romantic vibe. I hear its called the black hole of happiness, well no wonder, i didnt stop smiling for days :) enjoy

“Great little beach town”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Quieter than the more famous towns like Tamarindo, but absolutely worth a visit. The beach is beautiful, with warm water, some beginner surf schools and the opportunity to kayak, snorkel and laze on the beach.. The beach is dotted with some really good restaurants and bars, so easy to grab a beer and sit in some warm sand. The town is still relatively quiet but not sure how long it will stay that way.

“Perfecto!”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

Large, reef-protected sandy beach with lots of choice for food and drinks. Small waves make it a choice spot for those learning to surf or those looking to play in the warm water. Very relaxing and not crowded, even in the dry season.
