I stayed during 3 nights in February at VIlla Bruga with my family , we decided to visit Sámara for our summer vacations and due to obvious reasons we decided return to Kalimba.
The hospitality and customer service orientation from staff, cleanliness, details and security in the villa, contributed to have a pleasant family time in the beach. I would like to motivate you to visit Sámara and enjoy this nice place.

I was annoyed, I had to move hotels and didn't understand why we were moving one block around the corner to stay in Kalimba... We arrived drenched in sweat and quite cranky. As soon as we walked around the property, and opened the door to our mini villa I smiled...

Roberto's cooking is some of the best I have tried in my life. But I would recommend not having any expectations, and leaving a little mystery so this experience takes your breathe away like it did for myself and my family.

We stayed at Villas Kalimba for 3 nights in February 2014 as part of our Costa Rica tour and wished we had stayed here longer!! The 2 bedroom villa was spacious and comfortable - the kids were happy in their twin room, and had their own bathroom with fantastic shower. Our king bed was great, en suite bathroom again had wonderful shower and both had AC and fans. The outdoor dining room and hammock are lovely, we enjoyed relaxing here with a game of cards or reading our books after a long day on the beach. We were very happy here, the place was clean and all staff were friendly and helpful. Roberto, the owner, cooked a great Italian meal one evening, was lovely. We all enjoyed the pool.
The beach is across the road, prob less than 50 metres away (but i didnt measure!) and has lots of great bars and restaurants under the palm trees. Waves big enough for beginner surf lessons but small enough for swimming and safe for kids. No snorkeling sadly as the coral was bleached/had died. Warm water. Villas Kalimba has beach chairs, boogie boards and beach toys to borrow, and provides beach and pool towels for your use.
Will definitely be returning!

Villa Bruga and its larger sister villa, Villa Sandy, are about 1 and a half km out of Playa Samara on the road between Samara and Playa Corrillo. The villas are very secure and maintained by the Villas Kalimba staff, with daily cleaning. For two couples, Villa Bruga was nothing short of perfect. Spacious, well appointed, with a full kitchen and gas BBQ, we had the option of eating in or enjoying the restaurants of Samara. (Not to be missed is an evening when Roberto, the owner of Kalimba, decides to cook.) With a dining table indoors and as well as on the patio, the choice is yours. The villa is fully air conditioned, but we didn't need it, except to cool the bedrooms down briefly in the evening.
Although the beach at Samara is lovely, with its options for drinking/dining, we fell in love with the beach at Carrillo about 3 km away. Next to deserted most of the time, it's one of the best beaches we've ever experienced for walking and swimming. (These are not surfing beaches) And depending on the time of year, the sunsets from a viewing point just beyond the beach are spectacular.
Following an active 2 weeks exploring other parts of Costa Rica, we were ready for a week of reading and relaxation by the beach. In the heat of mid- day, we appreciated having our own private pool. The pool and grounds were kept in immaculate condition.
We enjoyed ourselves so much, we've already planned to return next year.

This was an amazing place to stay. The hospitality, the rooms, the ambiance, and the other guests at the hotel made this one of my absolute favorite places to stay in Costa Rica. The beds are super comfortable. Kid Friendly. It is right across the street from the beach. This beach is amazing, but don't be fooled- it looks smaller than it actually is. I was able to get in some wonderful sunrise runs. My family and I felt safe, even outside the gates.

The food at places to walk to such as Sheriff's is super delicious and very inexpensive, same with the hotel kitty corner from this hotel. My one regret: Roberto was cooking on the first night we were there, and we missed it! Every single guest (even little kiddos) raved about the wonderful food he prepared. All of the staff are amazing. We were running thin on clean clothes, and while they offer a laundry service, we were just going to hold out. Their staff cleaned our clothes, and folded them for us. It was amazing and such a relief. Our girls were able to borrow boogie boards (free of charge), and finally figured it out! So stoked. My family and I would come back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: We had room 3, but made friends with all the other people in the 6 villas there. That is the coolest...

Best vacation in Costa Rica and we've had many.
We stayed just outside of the town center in a pristine 2-bedroom house with it's own swimming pool in Samara Rocks. Took a $4 cab ride to go restaurants in the evening. We were very comfortable & content there for 5 days and will spend 4 weeks there next year.
Then we moved to another 2-bedroom on a side street in the village which also has a pool. We walked a few blocks to the beach everyday and sat under palm trees. Walked across the street to take a dip in the Villas Kalimba's pool before heading up to our house, El Gauchito.
The Villas on the main grounds surround a pool area and are located right across the street from the very large and beautiful cresent shaped, amazingly, sparsely populated, beach. Walk-right-in-temperature water, with waves enough for surf lessons but calm enough for non-swimmers.
Also right across the street on the beach, many restaurants. Town has ample grocery stores and such; it's clean and walkable.
Villas Kalimba appeared to be the most convenient and all'round best accommodations in Samara. Staff there are mostly English speaking and very accommodating. The owner, Roberto is a wonderful host and an excellent chef as well. Every few days he prepares a sumptuous dinner with great wines and delicacies from his native Italy.
And did I say the weather was perfect? Hot during the day but cooled into the 70's at night.
We LOVED it.

Staying here was the highlight of our trip. The service, the accommodations, and location could not be beat. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The villa and surrounding grounds were well maintained. Our family of 4 had a excellent time here and did not want to leave. The dinner prepared was exceptional (tons of food and hands down the best meal in Costa Rica). I would highly recommend staying here to anyone and would love to return again.
