“Villa Kalimba - Paradise Hosted by Caring & Hospitable Owners”
Reviewed 28 December 2005

Do you want to visit paradise and be pampered by very caring and hospitable owners? Then visit Villa Kalimba in Samara, Costa Rica. My spouse and I, accompanied by our two adult children, have just returned from an enjoyable week at this family-owned Villa.
Roberto Carrer and his family were extremely hospitable, charming and helpful but very discreet- the perfect hosts who made us feel like family. We spent a very pleasant and memorable holiday. The hammock in the shade was a real treat!

At Villa Kalimba we were able to relax and enjoy the splendid environment where Roberto and his lovely family have designed five fully equipped villas, tastefully decorated in a New Mexican style with all the amenities you would want. In particular, the bed was the most comfortable one that we have experienced on our many travels abroad. Landscaping of tropical gardens that allow complete privacy surrounds the villas and you are just a few steps from the beach on the Pacific coast (you must also visit the nearby serene and lovely beach at Playa Carrillo). The discreet and very caring owners will ensure you are truly pampered. Their philosophy is this: offer guests an inviting environment and impeccable service that the owners would expect themselves if they were on holidays. Bravo Roberto, you have truly succeeded in this endeavour with an Italian flair and a joie de vive.

Roberto was also extremely helpful and efficient in making various arrangements from booking our taxis to and from San Jose airport, to our Horseback riding at Samara and the surrounding areas, and our Canopy and boat ride tours at Palo Verde National Park. All went without a hitch and the tours were as described. Roberto’s family also prepared a delicious five-course Christmas dinner typical of their Italian region and worked extremely hard in preparing the Christmas decoration that accompanied the overly abundant succulent dishes. This elegant and convivial Christmas dinner was offered at a very reasonable price.

Upon on departure, our daughter and son continued on to the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge for a two-week volunteer project saving the endangered species of turtles. Roberto kindly offered our children his assistance during their stay in Costa Rica if they required it. This is how caring and helpful the owners at Villa Kalimba are.

Villa Kalimba could not be improved upon. It was utterly superb down to the last details.

My family of eleven including four children spent 10 days over Thanksgiving at Villa Kalimba. Roberto, who runs Villas Kalimba with his family, were extremely helpful. The facilities were excellent, service was wonderful. They were very helpful in helping us decide what activities we might enjoy. Our children were from age 5 to 15 and their selections were most appropriate.
We all agreed that the family could not have been more helpful, facilities were great and it was one of the best vacations were had together.

i second all the high praise and do not want to simply duplicate what people have said.
i do want to mention something that has been overlooked...the beds. the beds were the most comfortable i have ever slept on during a vacation.
we traveled to villas kalimba in a very large multi-generational family party. we bombarded roberto and his staff daily with requests for help on trips / activities / excursions (scuba / boat trips / eco-tours / cars ect ect ect) they handeled all our requests with style, grace and efficiency. we loved samara so much (with large thanks to roberto) that one of the families with us bought a condo there before leaving!!!

My wife and I just returned from our fifth visit this year to Costa Rica. As usual we visited our favorite spot, Samara, with our customary stay-over at the Villas Kalimba. Villas Kalimba is truly our home away from home. Exceptionally managed by Roberto Carrer and his efficient and friendly staff, we would recommend Villas Kalimba to anyone seeking a bit of pristine paradise, situated just across the road from the most scenic and tranquil beach in all of Costa Rica.

We just can't wait to return to Villas Kalimba again, and again....

Everything was perfect!! In a country not necessary known for finition, Villas Kalimba was honestly amazing! The owners are incredibly sympathic and the place is like... heaven! Ideal for honeymoon, where one's can cook its own meal and have a real good time.
The breakfast, served and cooked by Roberto, were amongs our best souvenirs!!

If you love comfort and beauty, this is the place to stay at Samara Beach on the Nicoya Penninsula in Costa Rica. This is a family owned hotel with only 5 beautiful villas built of the finest materials and each surrounded by landscaping that gives complete privacy. Each villa has a kitchen, a porch with a fan, a hammock, a dining/card playing table and other chairs for relaxing and reading. The pool is amazingly beautiful and well maintained. With only 5 villas the owners and their family are always available, helpful and friendly. I really enjoyed getting to know them. They speak Italian, English and Spanish! We stayed for 5 nights and we loved our time there. The villas are enclosed in high stuco walls and a large gate which is closed at 9pm. We felt very safe. Another plus about going to Samara is that the roads from San Jose are in good condition. It is about a 4 hour ride. We had missed the Interbus and the public bus wasn't going until 6:30pm so we hopped a taxi for $100. It sounds like a lot but it is cheaper than the cost of both the hotel in San Jose and then the bus the next day. Our taxi driver, Wilkie, was a careful driver and allowed us to stop whenever we wanted to. He seemed happy for the work.

Our family of five (kids, 10,12 and 14) had the privilege of spending 6 nights at this most wonderful location. Based on Trip Advisor reviews (the hotel is too new to have made the guidebooks yet!) we took our chances and were so glad that we did. There are not enough positive words in the dictionary (Spanish, English or Italian) to describe the experience we had in Samara and at Villas Kalimba. We met fun and interesting people, enjoyed the convenient location, enjoyed the beautiful pool and grounds, ate great food and most of all got to spend time with Roberto and his family. In all my travels I have never met a host that understands how to treat guests as well as does Roberto, his staff and his family. Our daughter celebrated her birthday and was surprised with a cake from Roberto's wife made from an old Italian recipe of her grandmother's. We can't wait to go back. The pictures are real -- this place is special.
